Spent a lot of time on our hols at the canela cafe in lahares. John, from up north in the UK, is a relaxed guy and looks after you and serves great food at a really good value for money price. LOvely ambience as well. For all budding musicians , John has a permanant set up up of bass, guitars, and drums, and if you just want to pop in to play, well feel free, is the policy at the canela, they also have a jam night every wednesday, which is great, and you can jion in.
Another real find, really really really liked it here, and John and staff are really nice. Cant speak highly enough.

Just returned from a week staying with friends in Lajares and ate here three times. On each occasion we couldn't fault the food. The staff couldn't do enough to help, well, apart from one who had a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp, but, hey, we all have our off days. Good variety and well presented with reasonable prices, oh, and a G+T to die for. Had the local boys in rehearsing one afternoon so we had a free show too. Live music on on some days but later at night i think. Overall, a great place to visit.

Please note on Fuerteventura at proper Canarian eateries tapas/starters are as big as our main courses. We liked Cafe Cancela in that we could just have a drink or order one main course and three forks and then if still hungry order a second and possibly a third main course - yes the portions are that big. A big thanks to Paul who made us really welcome AND told us lots about the island.

Wonderful food and great variety. Great vegetarian selection and for meat lovers - go for the rack of ribs, you will not be dissappointed. This cafe/restaurant has a good ambience and is the focal point in the village of Lajares. On certain days they have live entertainment. Overall this place is well worth a visit!!

In addition to my previous reviews I forgot to mention the excellent Paulaner German wheat beer (weiss bier) which Canela sells for only 3 Euros a half litre. I have paid more in Bavaria where Paulaner is brewed.

On our last night at Canela before leaving the island I was shocked by how little our bill, including some nibbles, was. The reason, I was told, was that on a Thursday night all half litres of draft beer, including Paulaner, were only 2 Euros a half litre - incredible.

And not to mention the atmosphere and the very friendly and efficient staff
