“Disgusting and a complete ripoff!”

The elephants here dont look very well looked after at all. Our guide carried around a small pick axe, he didn't harm the elephant with but the sight was enough to give us a bad feeling about the way the elephants are treated here.
The guide got off the elephant part way through the journey and took photos of us with our camera and then demanded a tip for doing so afterwards.
The monkey show was equally disgusting and the handler openly yanked on the chain continually around the monkey's neck.
The staff will try everything they can to get you to spend more money on things such as photos

I am ashamed that we contributed to the mistreatment of the animals by paying to go there, stay well away from this place!

Did this tour last week and found it pretty good - agree with what a previous reviewer has said about the baby elephants - found that a bit over the top and sad with the harmonica playing and bowing and all. Found the ox cart ride to be pretty poor value too, got nothing out of it and seemed like a waste of time.

But the elephant ride was fun - our guide was extremely funny and spoke good english. He treated the elephant respectfully and seemed to have a good bond with it. We were also offered to buy a necklace - I can only go on what we were told that the money was to go towards feeding the elephants and we did buy one.

We did the mini safari which included a tour about the rubber plantation which we found quite interesting and also did a cooking class which was good (and the food delicious).

Overall, a pretty good tour. I can understand others feelings about the animal cruelty aspect but in reality, you could make similar arguments for tours like this in most places in south east asia I'm sure.

We got some entertainment from the baby elephants, elephant ride, monkey show and snake show. The ox cart ride was a bit lame.

One down side to the elephant ride was the elephant rider hassled us for tips, then turned nasty because it wasn't enough. Best just ignore them.

More important, is that this does not represent the greatest in animal cruelty. For example, chained up monkeys, sticks with sharp hooks for elephants and snakes getting kicked to make them hiss. I guess it is up to you to decide what is acceptable or not and i would be suprised if other similar sights in phuket are very different.

We went on a half hour elephant ride, baby elephant show and snake show (which was at a diff location we were bussed to). The elephants all looked healthy enough but my heart broke for them and I am so angry I supported this. The baby elephants are trained to dance and play harmonica and look so sad. The babies then bow and ask for tips, I point blank refused. The ride itself is really just around a small maybe 4 acre area. My guide took me behind a tree and tried to sell me necklaces etc.
The snake show was awesome and I wish I knew their actual address because I am sure you would pay just a few baht if you walked in off the street. It is not for the faint hearted or those with fear of snakes. I love snakes but the king cobra was a bit too close for my comfort! Kids all had pic taken with a huge, healthy burmese python.
