We visited the farm earlier this week and found it a nice way to spend an hour. At 200 baht per person (about $6 AUD each), including stems of Thai orchids to take home, it was pretty good value. There's quite a few species of orchids, as you'd expect, but organised as a commercial nursery rather than a display garden. While there probably aren't as many as an orchid show, there are more varieties than the Phuket botanical gardens (which is 500 baht/person).
They also sell baby orchids in sterile bottles (growing in something akin to agar jelly) that can be taken back to Australia for 500 baht/bottle of 5 young plants; personally I loved the varieties they had on offer (and the great value - about $3 AUD per orchid!) and bought several to take home. With the quarantine stickers and species identification attached, they all passed Western Australian Customs very easily.
Travelling by taxi from Kata beach was 300 baht each way (reflecting the time the driver has to wait rather than the distance travelled) and it's a well known attraction so there were no hassles getting there.
Overall, I'd highly recommend a visit if you're looking for some interesting varieties of orchids to take home!
