“Nice way to spend an hour. Western Australians: orchids pass Customs!”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

We visited the farm earlier this week and found it a nice way to spend an hour. At 200 baht per person (about $6 AUD each), including stems of Thai orchids to take home, it was pretty good value. There's quite a few species of orchids, as you'd expect, but organised as a commercial nursery rather than a display garden. While there probably aren't as many as an orchid show, there are more varieties than the Phuket botanical gardens (which is 500 baht/person).

They also sell baby orchids in sterile bottles (growing in something akin to agar jelly) that can be taken back to Australia for 500 baht/bottle of 5 young plants; personally I loved the varieties they had on offer (and the great value - about $3 AUD per orchid!) and bought several to take home. With the quarantine stickers and species identification attached, they all passed Western Australian Customs very easily.

Travelling by taxi from Kata beach was 300 baht each way (reflecting the time the driver has to wait rather than the distance travelled) and it's a well known attraction so there were no hassles getting there.

Overall, I'd highly recommend a visit if you're looking for some interesting varieties of orchids to take home!

“A total waste of time and money”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

The Orchid Farm is located just south of the Chalong Harbor Roundabout. I have an orchid collection and was looking for some advice on how to improve results. I had previously been to Thai orchid farms in Bangkok and Chaing Mai, which were spectacular. What a disappointment!
The Phuket orchid farm is an active nursery, apparently growing orchids for sales. They have a lot of stock, but relatively little variety (I could only spot about 10 species). But I may be wrong--there were no signs identifying the flowers, no information on the inventory, no special exhibits, no guides -- nothing but a big nursery with a lot of the same types of flowers. The only staff were a German lady who sells tickets (a $7.00 entry fee), and a lot of poor Thai workers who have been instructed not to speak to the visitors.

A total waste of time. I got more information, and saw better specimens visiting a retail orchid store in town.

“difficult to locate”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

It was very difficult to locate the farm. We took a taxi and told the driver where we want to go (also showed him the map). Obviously he had no clue or couldn´t read the map and we experienced a great tour the island :) when we finally explained where we wanna go :) The farm wasn´t very big, but it was beautiful. I would say that the entry fee was too high for Thailand - 200baht for what you get, but if you are a fan of flowers i think it is a nice experience. At the end they will give you a small gift (little orchid) which you can carry home.

“Beautiful”

If you are gardens and orchids this place s well worth a visit.

Nice and knowledgable staff and seemingly miles and miles of orchids.

No pressure to do anything but walk and look.
