Perfect and cheap when going to Phi Phi

Review of Rattana Mansion
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 12, 2012
To stay for a night when coming from Phuket airport and going to PP, this is just perfect. Next to shopping mall and McDonalds, close to the pier. It is simple but good, nice and clean

Our room here was big, clean and comfortable. The staff were ok but not too friendly. Good place to stay on a budget.

We booked this hotel last minute for 700 baht a night so wasn't expecting too much. But overall this has to be one of the worst stays in a hotel I've ever had. The staff have extremely poor English, so bad that we could not even communicate with them to ask for a taxi to the airport the next morning. The staff were in no way helpful and seemed to have different people at the desk every few hours who did not even work there.
The hotel itself is run down with a terrible smelly lobby and shabby hallways. The rooms are very basic and averagely clean besides one or two small things.
We are regular travellers who don't mind roughing it up every now and then but rattana mansion is on a different level of rough!

Rooms didn't feel or look too clean and the whole hotel was in desperate need of restoration. It's right in the centre of Phuket town though so if you aren't heading for the beach or staying long it can be an ok base. Pretty cheap so can't be too critical. Unfortunately we saw a rat in the corridor, but not necessarily that rare in Thailand. The staff were helpful enough and it felt safe. On the plus side we looked poor when we got taxis from there so we didn't get ripped off or taken to any 'tourist shops'.

I shouldn't be complaining as I paid only 600 baht a night for the 2 of us, but just as a reminder to fellow travelers - you get what you pay for! If you just need a bed for a night this place is fine, just ignore the smell of kitchen waste in the lobby (with people cutting vegetables in it), the fact that you might have to carry your bags up 2 flights of stairs, noisy air-conditioning with an outlet that looks like it is going to fall apart, the absence of any so-called service, etc. - the rest is up to you to discover. Just don't be fooled by the pictures.

To be fair, the location is rather good, with shops, food stalls, and rather decent spa outlets nearby...

Stayed here one night. Around the corner from the nightmarket = perfect dinner!

Yes the springy beds were 'ok'. It was cheap at 900 baht for a twin room however the rooms look nothing like the pictures ! ha. I'm sure there are other places better value but it was an easy no brainer when you fly in at 6.30 and just need a place for the night with good food around the corner without having to walk far. For longer stays try any of the guesthouses in the old town. Or if you asked to see the rooms maybe you could find a better one. It was a little bit like a rabbit warren inside. At least after a day you should know where the nightmarket is!

Awesome live music after about 9 or 10pm at "rockin angels" on the same road as the "timber hut" except across the road (timber hut is larger and on most maps). The old town area is so very pretty and seems to have lots of smaller boutique guesthouses. The day / night market is the best though for food! Everything is cheaper in Phuket Town and its kinda cool - like a tiny Bangkok. I like the city styles and authentic food - so I don't think its a breeze though kinda place. It could easily be a holiday in its own right - however most people come to Phuket for the beaches not the town.... but if you need an authentic town fix - its here!

Room tip: See the room before you take it.
