“Excellent Service, Delicious Foods, Delightful Experience”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

This is a long overdue review, but to be fair I just have to share my thoughts and experience.

I was looking for a nice place for my mom's birthday dinner and relying on tripadvisor's reviews. People are raving about this place. We took the chance and rent a car. It was the best decision!

Blue Elephant was indeed a delightful dining experience. From the moment we entered the beautiful mansion, greeted by the friendly staffs and enjoyed the fresh dishes up to the last bite.

Just before we left, Kim, the GM, greeted us himself and offered drinks over chat. Apparently they were preparing a super nice birthday surprise for my mom, a big tray of sticky rice with mango. Thai's specialty dessert, our favorite too! As Kim kept us engaged and entertained for the best half an hour, we even forgot to try the sticky rice. Still feel bad about it :(

Overall, it was the best money spent on dinner, worth every cent!

“Best Thai Food Ever”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

The Blue Elephant in Phuket (and, we must add, also the Blue Elephant in Bangkok) have the best Thai food we've had. The ambience is lovely and, more importantly, the food is fresh, beautiful and incredibly delicious. We truly can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

“Fabulous restaurant & Cooking Class”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

A beautiful old building with great staff! We came here on a Cooking Class which was very informative, relaxing and enjoyable. The food was a bit spicy so take it easy on the chillies. Wonderful experience!

“Pricey, but worth a visit!”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Having researched restaurants before we arrived on holiday we decided that we must try the Blue Elephant, which is set in a wonderful Sino-Portugese style mansion. We had booked a number of weeks in advance and received email confirmation. On arrival there was a large Chinese group that appeared to have taken over the restaurant, and on entering saying we had a reservation we were told "no, sorry, no reservation". The manager Nu was called and said they had received a large booking 3 days earlier for the whole restaurant but had not contacted us to cancel/rebook the reservation, which was really unacceptable. Nu admitted that it was her fault, which was good to see that she accepted responsibility and didn't blame anyone else.

Obviously we were not happy.......however she asked if we would come back and she would provide free transport from and back to our hotel. Luckily it wasn't our last night and we could make it on the Friday evening. She then drove us to another restaurant in Phuket Town.

So, on Friday we returned. The driver as promised was waiting for us, so this time we were off to a good start! The venue is wonderful. It has a chic bar as you enter, maybe not to some people's liking as its a modern feature in an old building, but it is separate from the restaurant which is in its original style.

On entrance we met the owners son, who had recognised us from the night before. He apologised for the mishap, and presented his personal card to us saying if there were any problems this evening then call him (he was off home but he would come back if I called!). He also ensured we got free drinks.

We decided on the Legacy taster menu, which provides a great variation of food and is extensive.....ensure you are hungry! We received initial appetizers, followed by 4 different starters, a soup, 5 different mains and dessert. We chose the carafe of wine, as many of the menu wine choices were expensive. In fact, we had two carafe's of red wine, which were very good so don't be frightened to chose this option. The presentation of the food was excellent, and overall the food was very tasty. The only thing was the speed of the dessert, we needed a rest yet it came quickly after we had finished the mains.......waiting staff, please ask when diners would like dessert serving.

There was a old chap playing an electric organ, which felt out of place. This is a venue for a grand piano tinkling in the back ground, or someone on a cello. Nothing against you old chap, but it wasn't right for the setting! The only other thing was that the restaurant was probably only 30-40% full, which always detracts from the atmosphere.

The meal cost us 107 GBP for the taster menu and two carafes of wine, which may be deemed expensive by some however a meal isn't just about the food (which should always take pride of place) but its about the setting, the service, the ambiance. So, the booking issue aside (I have left the issue out of the scoring, as I wanted the review to reflect the actual evening), I feel it is a definitely place that is worth a visit.

If they could ensure the restaurant was full, and with a better more suited music option then it would be absolutely wonderful.
