my husband and i stayed in this hotel from 29th October 2012 till 4th November 2012. We were celebrating my birthday and our anniversary during this period. Since JWM was completely booked during this time, we opted for Westin (considering its 4th position in trip advisor and possible perception of its brand name).
A beautiful place, great property, spacious rooms with beach view - its a delightful place. The front desk staff gave us the best view once we told them we were celebrating special occasion. Completely cut off from town ( is about 20 min away from hotel - no near by places you can venture out to and minimum cab fare is 300 Baht per one way). the hotel however runs shuttles for 100 baht per person per way - you need to ask them timings and availability
We met Mr.TOO there who has got a 15 seater minibus but happily takes one or two passengers to visit phuket town, central festival and any other excursions. and is extremely friendly. his number is +66 814773631
Since we reached early and check in started only at 1:30 p.m. we had to wait in the lobby. SInce the property is right across beach its very humid and hot. The lobby has no air conditioning and some cane decorated fans which hardly move. Also free internet access is available only in lobby - rooms have paid internet access. So if you wanna surf in the lobby you have to bear the scorching heat
the best service here is of the shuttle service from lobby to rooms. Extremely efficient and very hospitable drivers ensure that you are transferred from lobby to room and back at all and any times
they have 3 restaurants that you can have your lunch and dinner from. Prego by the beach has some delicious salmon.
The concerning part was lack of meticulousness of staff and housekeeping which was terrible. Somehow all the positives of the property, eateries went for a toss after the housekeeping gave us a terrible time. On each day we faced some or the other issues. Our anniversary cake came on my birthday :) .. The loo was dirty when we checked in and had to get the housekeeping to redo it again. Every morning we struggled to ask for sugar and tea packets in the room which were not replaced. Our bathrobes and soaps didnt get replaced. The house keeping was tacky in all sense (shoes never kept on rack, iron boards not arranged). If and when we called them they would be absolutely grumpy especially the night staff. The front desk females have all plastic smiles and if you probe them with some questions then you can see their smiles disappear and a scowl will be presented to you with some firm restraining answers... its really sad to see how hospitality employees can forget what their jobs are all about..
We gave our feedback to the general manager Mr Thomas Mueller before posting this review online so that he is aware of our dissatisfaction. Must say he gave us a patient ear.
Whether they make changes or not - would recommend Westin in Phuket with more hesitation than confidence...
