“A Happy Family Stay”

Our first trip to Phuket and we were looking for a family friendly resort (Kids 4 & 6) in the less hectic area of Karon. This hotel came up as being near the top of the list. Research here and on the hotel website suggested Centara Karon Beach would be a good fit for what we wanted out of this family holiday and this proved to be true!
When we confirmed our booking a via email a couple of days before travel we were offered the opportunity to upgrade from a Tropicale room to a 1 bed Cabana which elected to do - this turned out to be a very good choice for our family and I would highly recommend it if you are able to stretch the budget a little bit further. Having a larger room and the small courtyard with Jacuzzi was excellent for the kids (also a little bit quieter for the neighbours as well I would imagine). The 2 Queen size beds were quite close together but allowed the rest of the room to stay quite spacious. The bathroom was also quite large which was good for the shower shuffle and there was plenty of room for suitcases. Dang looked after our room at night and always had kind words with our kids.
As part of our package we had the Premium Club but with the kids found it difficult to take advantage of most of the perks, we thought it unreasonable to take the kids to the lounge where others were there to enjoy some peace & quite. We used the Laundry service the first couple of days until the provided bags ran out and were not replaced.
Having small kids we spent most of our time in the lagoon pool and didn't have any problems getting sun loungers in our desired position or towels (although a bit more work needs to go into removing from service some of the badly stained ones). A bit more parental supervision of some kids around the pool wouldn't go astray to make sure both they and others using the pool stay safe. During our stay participation in the nightly 'happy hour' by other guests was quite poor - I though that the drinks were quite reasonably priced...Kids used the Kids Club a few times but if they want to do the advertised activities you will have to ask. Also the 150B to paint a plastic pot each was a bit steep. Kids were said the staff were friendly.
We had breakfast the first couple of days at the Lotus but then moved to Azure were I thought everything was to a much better standard, especially the omelettes & coffee (perhaps more care able to be taken due to less guests).
We had 2 dinners at Azure and both were very, very good. Unfortunately on both nights there was only 1 or 2 other groups in the restaurant which was a real shame given the quality of the meals and the pricing which again I thought was quite reasonably given what you were getting. The steak I had on 'BBQ' night was Neil Perry worthy!
We had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if returning to Karon.

Room Tip: Cabana rooms are really worth the upgrade if possible.

After enjoying our stay at this hotel last year, we booked again for 8 nights. Then our flights were changed and we decided to stay an extra night. The booking for the extra night (first of 9) was confirmed, but 3 weeks before arrival we were told it was double booked and we'd have to stay at another hotel. Despite much correspondence by both our travel agent and emailing direct, they were unable to find us a room and we had to spend our first night at another resort. This was very inconvenient to say the least. As a result of this, and our being return guests, and Centara 1 Card members, we expected preferential treatment at the very least, if not an upgrade, when we did finally check in ... there must be no communication between reservations, reception, housekeeping and management as this was not to be.
We were told our room wouldn't be available until 2pm (fair enough, this is normal check in time) but as we'd had to check out of the other resort at 12 noon this left us with a 2 hour gap. We spent the time around the pool which wasn't totally relaxing as we didn't have swimwear (this was in our luggage at the concierge - bad planning on our part). At 2:30pm we were told housekeeping still hadn't prepared our room and to "please wait". Finally, after a couple of polite requests, it took tears of frustration for reception to inform us that our allocated room had a late checkout, but they then managed to find us another room in just a few minutes. We finally got into our room a frustrating 4.5 hours after arrival, with no compensation. During this whole time the English speaking duty manager hovered in the background letting his reception staff handle the matter, without stepping in to assist.
The rest of our stay at the resort was lovely - good breakfast buffet with banana roti to die for, comfortable, clean room and bed, friendly staff, great Tropicale pool (the Terrace pool was closed for renovations and again, no compensation). The light meals at the Tropix restaurant were lovely, and quite reasonably priced for a resort. We ate our main meals in restaurants and bars outside the resort for variety, and they were much cheaper. The location of this resort is great - close to beach, restaurants, bars, shops etc. and one of the main reasons for our return booking.
Then came check out day. We were sad to leave, but had paid for a late checkout so were quite relaxed and pleased to have a whole day. When we returned to our room after lunch, we found we were locked out. Housekeeping were kind enough to let us in, but how did they know we weren't thieves? I was also locked out of wifi in the morning of our last day, despite the late checkout and being a Centara 1 Card member which includes free wifi. Also, housekeeping came into the room unexpectedly as I was dressing - embarrassing for both of us. Obviously reception or reservations had not advised housekeeping of our confirmed late checkout. This left a bad taste in our mouths as we had forgiven them for the debacle of our first day.
Unless Centara can prove to me their administration is improved, I would be reluctant to return despite the great location and facilities. I'd give another resort a go if I were to return to Phuket.

I am sorry to read how this simply process soured an otherwise excellent holiday. We have a new Front Office Manager (Khun Pam) who is re-organising this area to ensure a better arrival and departure standard is enjoyed.

We have just returned from a 13 night stay at this resort. We have 3 children, aged 7, 5 and 2. This is an amazing resort for children. The kids loved the pool and waterslides. We had issues with our hot water on the first night, so were upgraded to a larger family room, which I would definitely book next time. We were on the top floor, so going up and down 3 levels several times a day with a pram and toddler was annoying, so would recommend requesting a ground or second level if you have kids in a pram.
The reception staff we found quite unfriendly and sometimes rude, which is ashame as this is the first point of contact. However all the other staff were amazing. We had an issue where we had requested the baht bonanza and we were unaware we had to sign paperwork for it ( jet lagged after travelling with 3 young kids from aus and assuming as they had taken our credit card details, it would be charged at the end when we checked out) when we went to check our balance a couple of days into our holiday they told us we didnt sign up for it and were quiet rude. I asked to speak to the manager and she said we couldnt do it as it had to be done in the first 24 hours. we were very dissapointed and chose to not spend anymore money at the resort as there were plenty of cheaper eating and drinking places outside.
The service at breakfast was fantastic, a lot of the staff got to know my youngest by name and would show him so much attention. The food was great also. So much to choose from.
The guys that take your luggage and take you to your room on the golf cart were the most amazing, friendly people we have ever meet. My youngest would of been happy to have spent his entire holiday with Sub, Beer, Nut and all the other wonderful guys that work their. They were so friendly, helpful and spoke fantastic English. Both my husband and I said, they would be better as reception staff, than the girls that were at reception.
The location was fantastic. Everything close by. We ate at the Red Onion ( amazing food, not very friendly people) Karon Seafood ( amazing food, amazing service and amazing people) and Pappa's which had a fantastic happy hour and I am still craving their Pad Thai,
We booked our tours through Oasis Tour company which was just outside to the left. The lady Mah who runs it is so lovely. My 2 year old was calling her mum Mah!
We did a Elephant ride through Sian Safari, that was fantastic, we did another through Up the Hill tour and was very disappointed. If you have young kids, Sian Safari is the way to go.
We also did a 1/2 day tour to Khai Island. Again highly recommended if you have young children.
Highly recommend Apple Massage also. Amazing, beautiful people who work there.
A trip to patong is definitely worth it as much cheaper prices especially the otop markets. The weekend night market at Phuket town was also great and definitely worth it for the experience.
Overall we had a amazing holiday, met some amazing people and now are looking forward to our next family holiday at Centara Karon Resort in the not too distant future, we hope!

What a wonderfully unique experience we encountered in Phuket. The staff at Centara went beyond the call to make sure that every whim was catered for. This hotel is great for all, but for a family with two boys, it was idyllic. The food was excellent, the facilities are top notch. The setting was wonderful and the Thai people are a beautiful nation who go out of their way to make the tourist feel special. What a superb holiday. Well done Centara. Well done Thailand.

We arrived to another warm Centara Welcome with nice seating area comp towel and drink and professional check in.

We were upgraded to the Tropicale rooms which were excellent. Now I know the layout I would pay for an upgrade as it gives you a complex feel to be in the areas round the pool. Our room was near a very noisy lift / maid cleaning area which didn't bother us too much but may bother others,

Must say professional Staff, Clean room and areas, perfect quiet but very central location.

If I had to moan it would be to say the lack of pool towels - every day we had to wait but I could of used my own.

We didn't have Breakfast only the odd lunch at the pool bar food was tasty.

A slight problem on check out trying to charge us for something we didn't use from the mini bar as it was not properly stocked on our arrival.

Glad we stayed in Karon and not Kata !

We will deffo use Centara Chain again very impressed.

Room Tip: Upgrade to Tropicale or Lagoon Rooms.

This is our 2nd stay at Centara Karon Resort in Phuket & once again we enjoyed every minute of our 11 night stay. Our family of 5, Mum & Dad + 3 boys 7,5,3 stayed in a Luxury Cabana as we did last year. It is a little squeeze for all in one main room/bedroom but the private front Courtyard & Jacuzzi is fantastic for privacy and that extra area for the boys to muck around in. The bathroom is huge with a wardrobe & luggage space at the opposite end to the shower & loo separated by a very long vanity with single wash bowl. Good shower, water pressure and plenty of hot water. There is a small rear courtyard/area with with an outside shower and a clothes horse for drying out clothes etc. Inside it features a 24" flat tv, a little small these days, and a DVD player. Also tea & coffee is provided with a kettle but no fresh milk but sachet creamer! Horrible stuff but just bearable. Mini-bar is moderately priced. Good beds but on the firm side. Very clean & well presented if not dated. All furnishings & window frames/doors are of a dark wood. Very quiet & private. Our first morning we did upset a neighbour at 7:45 with noise, sorry.
The resort is still very good. The Lagoon swimming pool and surrounding area is great for the kids with slides, waterfalls & we enjoyed the swim-up bar on more than one occasion. Lotus or Azure restaurant for breakfast buffet every morning, included in accommodation tariff, is superb start to every day. We dined at the Azure restaurant for lunch & dinner several times for excellent meals. Service was sometimes a little to relaxed as it's not a very busy restaurant.
The staff are what makes a great stay. They are always polite, happy & eager to assist. They were great friends to our boys & made us feel at ease. Check-in & out was easy and reasonably quick. We took advantage of their Bonanza deal where we deposited 10,000 BHT & they added another 5,000 BHT as credit to spend in the Hotel of meals & beverages. We used the Limo service a few time to visit attractions all over the island. This is the best way to tour around in comfort & the cheapest. We can't wait to return yet again.

Room Tip: Cabana. Very private, own Jacuzzi (4-6 person). Quiet & very comfortable.

We stayed here for 9 nights in October 2013, 2 adults and 2 kids aged 14 and 12. After reading on tripadvisor about the different types of accommodation we chose to stay in the lagoon section with interconnecting rooms which overlooked the lagoon pool. This was lovely for the first few days but became very noisy over the week when different families arrived and children would be in the pool at 7am, as we all like to sleep in on holidays we found this a bit disappointing. Therefore we spent most of our time at the Tropical pool which was much quieter. In saying this we had a lovely time at this resort. We really enjoyed the huge breakfast buffet which was included in the room price and did use room service and the hotel restaurants on a few occasions and were really happy with the food and service. We used the spa with our My time credits and were blown away by how lovely this was. If we had more time we would have returned. The hotel is just a short walk away from the beach and has restaurants, shops, markets, banks just outside the entrance gates. The rooms were spacious but a little tired and as previous reviews the beds are very hard, but I requested the mattress toppers for the beds and this was done very quickly. We took advantage of the baht bonanza where we paid 10,000 baht and were given another 5,000 baht to use on food, drinks and the spa. We had dinner at Red Onion, Papaya, Two Chefs and Angus O'Tooles which were all just outside the resort. Overall we really enjoyed our time at this resort and would return but would stay in the Tropical area instead.
