Cannot fault this resort at all. The room was devine, air conditioning used at all times, wonderful sea views (you must ask for this if you want them), great restaurants, 3 lovely pools, bars at the pools, fantastic service, staff very helpful, very friendly. Huge complex but you wouldn't know it because there is so much room. I was ill one night and was still able to order dinner in my room while my husband and friends were downstairs in one of the restaurants. The beds are enormous and comfortable, very clean.
This resort is right in the centre of Karon but it is quiet. Shopping is 2 minutes away, restaurants, etc everywhere and food is safe everywhere, just drink bottled water and the ice is ok everywhere. Shopping to die for with 3 local markets and more in Patong and also in Phuket. The Phuket market opens at 4pm.
Local massage parlours fantastic and extremely good value.
Trips to try: Siam Safari to see elephants (we did half day and it was enough, great for kids), Phi Phi Island whole day on boat with snorkelling, etc and they provide sea sick tablets if you need and all snorkelling gear, Fantasea night show highly recommended also. There is loads to do and be prepared to bargain for anything you buy. For example bought 2 pair Billabong shorts and 2 billabong singlets for 700 baht which is less than $60NZ. Unbelievable value.
One of the best things we did which is available at this resort is to give 10,000 baht to the resort and they give free an extra 5000 baht for you to spend on their dinners, their spa treatments and their drinks available at their bars. Any of it not used is not returned but we more than used it all. There are differing amounts you can use. I was hestitant at first but it was a really good deal and we drank and ate an awful while sitting at the pool.
Learn some of the local lingo - they love it and have more respect for you if you attempt it.
Sahwahdeeka - hello (from a woman)
Sahwahdeekup - hello (from a man)
Kahpoonka - thankyou (from a woman)
Kahpoonkup - thankyou (from a man)
My ka - no (from a woman)
May kup - no (from a man)
Chai ka - yes (from a woman)
Chai kup - yes (from a man)
Sahbardika - how are you (from a woman)
Sahbardikup - how are you (from a man)
Obviously my spelling is incorrect but I've tried to spell it phonetically.'
One of the best words I learned was "My ka" (no thanks) because the hawkers stopped bothering us straight away. They realised we'd been there long enough or longer to know what was happening and it was no use to them to keep haggling with us.
If a man uses ka instead of kup the locals will think you are a feminine man (lady boy). There are many Thai men who dress as woman and also have breast implants.
This is a wonderful country and you will have a brilliant time. All I can say is have fun, it's impossible not to, we loved it and will return soon.

Room Tip: In room service is available, wonderful spa treatment available at resort and discreet, clean, staff...

We stayed at the Centara Hotel in July 2011 for our honey moon. The first room we were given we were not too happy with as it was a ground floor and the bed was rock hard. We rang them during the night and we were promptly told we would be able to change rooms the next day. They showed us another room and we were happy with it.

Being our honey moon we got special gifts (flowers, chocolate cake and juice). It was lovely. Also we got lots of special attention such as with breakfast because there wasnt alot of vegetarian meals, they provided a special meal on our table every morning!

During our stay, all the staff were very friendly and helpful in particular a young man by the name of Chuki (sorry if the spelling is wrong!). He was a wonderful host and knew each guest either by name or room number!

We would definetly go back again and recommend this hotel to anyone to wants to stay within the area of karon beach. the location of this hotel is set very well as you are within the shopping areas with in Karon beach, a 5 min walk from the beach and near the taxi/tuk tuk stand. Its a short ride to Patong where there is loads of night life and shopping/restaurants.

We stayed in Thailand for 10 nights. Arrived quite late at night and our booked room was not available as they had been busy and all the available "family" rooms had people in them! Naturally they offered to upgrade us... but for an extra 500 baht a night!! My reaction was not good to this given we had paid and booked already so Centara upgraded us for free!! Other than this we found their service excellent. We had interconnecting rooms and stayed in the Lagoon Pool area which is perfect if you have children. The Lagoon pool is set up for children with an amazing pool and play area. Depending on the childrens ages the beauty of these rooms is your kids can be montiored from the comfort of your room. As we discovered over time Kata beach was just that much further out and a lot quieter than Karon and Patong was just plain crazy busy so if looking for that happy medium would definately recommend Karon. What we loved about the Centara as well was it was within walking distance of everything you need but being down a side street you didn't have the chaos and noise of being on a main street which we loved. It cost 300 baht to get a tuk tuk over to Patong. Kaon was a lot cheaper than Patong for everything but Patong is still a fanstatic experience and well worth going over for a day or two. Close to the beach as well, approx. 2 min walk through an alleyway which was a bit doggy but why would you use the beaches when you have 3 amazing pools fully serviced with towels, drinks and food at the hotel I will never know! Breakfast was lovely, you had an amazing choice of cereals, cooked breakfast, cold meats and salad, or a selection of pastries and breads. There is a small store in the resort by Lagoon restaurant, the guys in there were lovely and very competive with their prices. We had all our clothes made through them and can't fault them. Friends staying in Patong had an awful time with their tailor and ended up walking away with no clothes and no refund!! Naturally it is cheaper to eat, get massages and laundry done outside of the hotel. More than enough restaurants in easy walking distance, eating out was never an issue. The "pancake" man at the end of the street makes the most amazing pancakes and they are only 40 baht, well worth a try. When you arrive, talk to other guests, they are your best source of information as to where to eat and what to do, and where to go. We did 3 trips. Went Elephant trekking on the mainland as Phuket doesn't have any juggle so you can only get an elephant ride in Phuket. We also did the James Bond and Phi Phi which were both very different to each other and as amazing as each other. Well worth doing.

Room Tip: Interconnecting rooms definately the way to go and they don't cost that much more.

Clean, modern, friendly place. Good room. choice of 3 swim pools The "Terraces building" accom is recommended. Good brekkie, shops outside and main street eateries and shopping just a stroll away. Dangerous beach was closed (wet season) but few warm showers didn't matter plus airtemp a few degrees lower thank heavens. Not worth a trip to see old architecture at old phuket and Patong really only for drunks and ragers.
Went on River Rovers trip to feed litle monkeys, walk on rickety fishfarm, very quiet but enjoyable. Went to Fantasea and reluctantly paid $50.00 for photos in dressup clothes. Omigod, they walked us to every best photospot in the park and it was SO worthwhile!!.

Room Tip: "The Terraces" building is main bldg (Lobby) pool adjacent, needn't walk thru Lobby in...

It wasgreat to be recognised again by the front office staff and bell boys. Lovely hotel with spacious room (sea view), good variety breakfast to cater for all needs. Three swimming pools well maintained with each having an afternoon happy hour.
Staff overall are very attentive to your needs.
Certainly would stay again. Also far enough away from Patong if you are a bit older

Lovely resort. Stayed for 8 days. We had 2 adjoining rooms for us and our children in the Tropix block overlooking the pool. Very comfortable rooms with balcony, flat screen TV and DVD player. Housekeepers fantastic, cleaned both rooms every morning while we had breakfast. (I hate coming back to unmade rooms in the middle of the day.) Gardens beautiful, pools great especially top pool up by Tropix bar. Staff very friendly. Western style food in restaurants of a very high standard, crab and mango salad perfect. We took advantage of the 'Baht Bonanza' offer so made good use of the swim up bars and had lunch around the pool most days.

I had a body scrub, massage and manicure in the spa which was incredible value if you buy the 'baht bonanza' as it reduces the price by a third. Otherwise, highly recommend On-Lees on the main road for thai massage and heavenly foot massages - even enjoyed by our 13 year old son!

Although not beach front, it isn't far too walk to the sea.. Rainy season meant the beach was unsafe anyway so we were happy just to lounge around the pools.

Couldn't get into the Red Onion to eat - too busy with long queues - but had the most amazing red duck curry in the restaurant directly opposite (Family Seafood?). Ate here twice - recommended with good seafood.

We found Karon to be a little quiet and ended up getting a tuktuk to Patong 3 nights for some lively entertainment. Not a seedy as they say, we took 12, 13 & 14 year old boys with us and we always treated extremely respectfully by the 'love u longtime' girls! (Although, would like to return without them to see the real Patong!)

Went to Fantasea, which I loathed but the kids enjoyed. Went on the Speedboat trip to James Bond Island which was a fantastic day out even in the drizzle. Scenery spectacular, water warm for a dip and a good lunch provided at the floating village.

We would return to this resort if we got a good deal but we also liked the look of Kata (nice beach with a more compact town behind it) or to Patong as we liked the festival atmosphere and some of the resorts looked great too. I would say this resort is ideal if you have children or want something peaceful.
