“Excellent hotel. Can't fault it at all”
Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

Cc's Hideaway is a lovely hotel on the hill above Kata and Karon beaches. The rooms are very well appointed and the beds are super comfy. The grounds are lovely and the pool is amazing. Gorgeous views in a quiet environment. We had connecting rooms for myself and adult children. A shuttle is provided every two hours to kata and karon beaches and return. It's only a few minutes away and the shuttle runs until 10pm. The staff are very accommodating and breakfast has something for everyone. I enjoyed staying at this lovely boutique hotel.

This hotel is up on a small mountain and it is too steep to walk up and down (i did it once and that was enough) so you either need to rent a scooter or use the free shuttle that runs only every 2 hours and only up to 10:00pm. If you choose to travel between shuttles to one of the local beaches than it will cost 117 baht each way (or 400 baht plus 17 percent each way to Patong. Patong is not on the regular shuttle route and you pay every time you go to Patong). This soon adds up and after a few unscheduled trips you will have spent more than had you stayed at a hotel on or closer to the beach. Not all tour companies will pick you up at this hotel because of the steep hill. Not all tuk tuk drivers will take you either simply because the hill is too steep for their tuk tuks. on my last night I went to patong and had to ask three different tuk tuk drivers before one agreed to take me for 100 baht extra. the hotel itself is nice but there was no hot water during my entire week stay. when i inquired about getting a room with hot water i was told that none of the rooms had hot water because they use solar to heat the water and it had been overcast and raining so the water was not hot. this is a poor excuse for a hotel in a location where it often rains for several days at a time. i have stayed at 13 dollar a night hostels that have hot water! the breakfast was hit and miss. the food is apparently cooked some time before and they use the heating trays to warm it back up. some mornings the eggs and meat were cold. they also charge a 10 percent service charge and 7 percent VAT on EVERYTHING including the self serve mini bar. They charge 1017 baht for airport pick up or drop off while local companies offer the same service for 800 baht. Add it all up and this is not a good value. The best thing about this hotel is the staff which truly do try hard and are always pleasant.

KenMiller, General Manager at CC's Hideaway, responded to this review, September 25, 2013
Thank you for your response and we apologize that you were not happy with your stay. Our shuttle will run every hour starting November 15 thru at least March 31.

With regards to comments on the cost of our car service to Patong, we offer a round trip option for 700 THB. Our fares are favorable to both official taxi rates and tuk-tuk prices. As Patong is a distinct community several kilometers away from Kata, we really do not think your comment speaks to the merits of our Hotel. While some prefer the Patong nightlife others prefer the calmer, less crowded, cleaner and more serene beaches of Kata and Karon. Personally, I think it’s like staying in Berlin and complaining about the cost of the train to Munich.

Yes, we have a solar hot water system but is has an electric back-up heating system that was not working correctly during your stay. With a few of the new systems installed during the renovation, there were some bugs that we had to attend to. We sincerely apologize about the water situation and I as the General Manager, apologize that my staff and management did not address the situation to your satisfaction. We appreciate your comment about our staff, we are very proud of their performance and service commitment.

As to breakfast we have taken your comments to heart and have implemented several steps to improve it. We now do some of the baking ourselves. We also offer a menu in lieu of the buffet on days where we have low occupancy to help insure that the food is fresh and warm. We offer a selection of omelets and other egg dishes that are freshly made on request. We have expanded the number of dishes we offer on the buffet also so that there is more variety from day to day.

As to our airport taxi service, we provide a superior service in newer and larger vehicles for only a very modest additional cost. The regulated rate from the airport to Karon and back to the airport is 1000 THB each way. The risk is that airport taxis sometimes take guests to various vendors in the hopes of acquiring sale commissions whereas our drivers will be fired for such activity. We also offer cold towel and cold water service for our airport pick-ups. For the level of service we provide, our rates are very competitive to other area hotels and taxi services. As with many transactions, there is often a lower price available, but caveat emptor.

Stayed 5 nights towards the end of a long trip though SE Asia. Hotel has been nicely renovated. Rooms are spacious and well maintained. There is a great little restaurant that serves a decent breakfast and is a good option for dinner if you feel like avoiding the very steep climb up the hill from the main drag at Kata Beach. There is a shuttle but it runs infrequently.

Staff was quite charming and happy to help. Reasonably good value but you need to be reasonably fit to tackle both the up and down climbs on the hill if you want to walk into town or to the beach.

Nice room, modern bathroom, best bed I had in Thailand. It does seem a bit strange though that the bed was fitted with a quite thick duvet/quilt and no top sheet, so you either get rather hot, or crank the air-conditioning to maximum, or remove the inner from the duvet/quilt cover.

Fairly inconvenient location. Too far and steep to walk to anything, even a mini-mart. The courtesy bus was OK for drop-offs at a few predetermined spots, but it was usually difficult to arrange a pick-up that suited a usually fairly unplanned walk around and dinner somewhere.

There was no apparent sealing on the large sliding doors because we could hear everything that went on outside - 5am rooster walk-ups, telephone ringing in reception, (louder) conversations in the bar area, wind whistling & every word of the "Friday night movie".

So, the quality of sleep should have been good with a nice bed, but we were either kept awake late by customers at the bar or by "The Life of Pi" (which finished around 11pm, which would have been OK, except we were leaving for the airport around 6am and wanted an slightly earlier night), or, we were woken up early by the dreaded rooster crowing just after 5am.

One night we found our own way back to the hotel after being out for over 12 (very hot) hours, really looking forward a nice shower and cool room - the entire hotel was in total darkness, including the stair-cases - luckilly we had a small LED torch. When we got up to reception and asked, we were told there had been a power failure, and to just use the torch in the room. No apologies, no offer of candles etc. The room was hot and stuffy (as you may expect being closed up all day in June), and then we discovered that the weak dribble of water that came out of the shower and basin was totally cold (obviously a pressurised electric hot water system).

We certainly accept that the hotel had no control over a power failure (it was only the area up the hill around the hotel in darkness - Kata and Karon both had power), but I did think it might have been nice to get an apology or perhaps a complimentary drink etc. After all, we were not paying 450B for a basic room, no fan of A/C, no hot water etc.

I mentioned the cold shower that night, and a barely luke-warm shower the next night to one of the reception staff who asked when I was checking out, and he just said something like "Oh well, you need to run the water for a long time sometimes to get it hot".

Another surprise was the addition of a 17.7% "tax & service charge" on things. We were quoted 1000 Baht for an airport transfer to the hotel, which seemed high, but I accepted because of the convenience aspect. We were actually billed 1 177 Baht, which did not compare well with the 800 Baht taxi (both vehicles were almost identical air-conditioned SUVs) we arranged via "The Kitchen" restaurant. A 50% premium is a bit steep.

The meals and drinks are generally quite pricey For example, a simple cocktail was 190B, which made it the most expensive cocktail we had in Thailand - no "happy hour" to speak off (they have a cocktail of the day for about 160B). Other hotels we stayed at (not in Phuket) had cocktails for 150B, and happy hour cocktails for 90-99B for at least 2 hours a day.

A simple Thai meal (2 curries, 1 cocktail, 1 gin-tonic & 2 small Singha beers) came to 980B. A similar meal in most established (non-hotel) restaurants (not street markets) would probably be around 690B - again a 50% premium.

We were also only made aware of the 3% credit card fee when I produced my VISA card at check-out. I did not see this mentioned anywhere until then - another unwelcome surprise.

I think this hotel would probably be a good option for someone on a business trip, where add-on costs were less important, and convenience to shops, bars & restaurants may be a lessor consideration. For someone wanting to do some sight-seeing around the area, and have a few social drinks as sun-downers, not a great option in my opinion. Better to go to a hotel down the hill where you can walk to everything.

Compared to our hotels on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan islands, CC's did not shape well (other than a nice ned and bathroom) as an overall experience.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at CC's. Rooms were very clean and the whole hotel seems new and has a cool design. We got the ocean view room which was definitely worth it, beautiful view from atop a big hill. Breakfast was included and it was delicious, lots to choose from and good coffee.

The hotel is secluded, but there were motorbikes for rent and a convenient shuttle service. Not a far ride to beaches or more touristy areas.

We both had great massages at the hotel and enjoyed the pool a lot.

We would love to come back, highly recommend!

I spent quite a lot of time at CC's Hideaways in May (around 3 weeks) and I am glad I picked it. The hotel is extremely clean and confortable. The bed is awesome. The building is brand new and well kept and the intern has a thai touch. The hotel is up a hill, away from the mess. It takes only 10 minutes walking to get to the beach but they also offer a free shuttle service every 2 hours. The staff was always helpful and kind. Special mention goes to Luis Enrique III. No matter what, he was always smiling and welcoming. He knows the guests by name and honestly makes you feel home. HIs yoga sessions were fantastic and he was extremely quick to solve and deal with any issues. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: I had pool and ocean view. Totally worth it.

We spent a lot of time at CC's Hideaway hotel over the last month or so. The manager and staff are absolutely fantastic, super friendly and helpful. The facilities are great, the swimming pool is just perfect, and the view from the restaurant is beautiful. We will definitely be back again, and highly recommend this as a great place to stay.
