“Maria Rizzardo "fantastic holiday resort"”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

We stayed in club med Phuket in jan 2014 with a group of 19 which included 10 kids. The staff were brilliant and very attentive. The food was great and plentiful and the cocktails were amazing thanks to Kobi and Manu who could whip up anything you liked plus a few surprise cocktails! The evening entertainment was awesome, especially the trapeze show. Kumar and the guys are very talented people. We met some great G.O's especially Milk, Josh and Dillon who entertained all our kids and adults alike. A truly wonderful experience. If you want a great holiday where you are pampered and spoilt, Club Med Phuket is the place to go. Highly recommended.

We have just come back from a 7 night stay in 1 deluxe interconnecting rooms and a separate deluxe room for my mother who flew from London.

Overall the rooms were spacious and fine. Our rooms were fine for a family of 5. My mother's was a little nicer in decor but that is to be expected as kids hadn't worn it down! My only two suggestions would be for the rooms is an extractor fan in the shower area to avoid the mold as some guests might not conscientiously leave the door open. And the mattresses, they are so hard that your hips and bottom hurt to touch. After severe neck and shoulder pain I had a massage at Payot which was divine by the way!

My mother had a pedicure done at the beauty salon and the lady in there is just gorgeous, would recommend a visit!

My two boys were in the mini club and my youngest was in the petite club - they all had a blast! They were able to experience things like the trapeze, archery, trampoline amongst many things. ALL the staff were brilliant and I cannot praise them highly enough!

The staff in the restaurants/dining rooms were also very attentive and a joy to talk to, nothing was too much!

Overall we were pleased with the resort, ok it may need a tart up but you have to remember the tropical climate can create constant wear and tear on a building. The resort was clean, if a glass had been left on the grass by a GM on your trip back it was gone.

The beach was lovely to walk up and down, beware of the sea lice - ouch!

The food at times could be a little boring but for buffet I always found something yummy. My only gripe would be to have some more child friendly options in the evening for fussy eaters like chicken nuggets, sausages etc which was provided at lunch. I had some beautiful fresh tuna sashimi which was carved off a massive tuna fish in the restaurant, wow! The menu at the Chunda at lunch could also do with a revamp - the club sandwich was abysmal but clearly a first world whine! ;-)

We were also a family of 6 and never really had a problem getting a table in many of the rooms.

The kids also loved going up to their section of the bar and ordering a Spiderman or Ben10 drinks a huge hit with my three!

A little warning would be lock your door at night..my mother in her mid 60's on the third floor in a deluxe room didn't as she wasn't shown how to. On the first night at 4.30 am two GO/GM's who knows walked into her room for hanky panky. It gave her a fright and we did mention it to the reception and left it at that.

Go with the intent of not looking for 5 star and have a happy demeanor and you will have a happy, relaxing holiday.

We will definitely go back once they change the mattresses! And are looking forward to trying out the other club meds.

Room Tip: We were in D block which was a short walk over the grass past the trapeze to the bar and main pool a...

My family and I recently stayed at club med Phuket to celebrate my mums 70th birthday. Each meal time we often had trouble getting a table as we had 7 people in our group. By the end of the week of our stay we noticed that several of the tables with the best views were discretely being reserved by the wait staff. They did this by placing a half a glass of wine on the table or crossing knives and forks so it looked like someone was using the table. When we questioned this we were told that the guests were getting their food and would be back shortly. When we watched the tables we found this wasn't the case and that the tables remained vacant often for over an hour. When the guests finally did show, they were given preferential treatment and waited on. We never did find out how you got the VIP treatment!

Dear Maria P,

Thank you for your feedback and for bringing to my attention the above issue you encountered while in our Resort.

I will review this with our Restaurant Manager as there should never be any preferential treatment in the seating. As all areas of our Resorts, pools, lounge chairs, restaurants seating etc, all guests should always be allocated on a first come first served basis.

I apologise for this and is unfortunate you felt this way. I recommend in future to express your concerns immediately to the Restaurant Manager.

Kind Regards,
General Manager Phuket

We stayed at Club Med Phuket in late October 2013. We are veteran Club Med GM's.....and have been staying at Club Meds around the globe since about 1980. It never fails to disappoint really. The entire offer is hard to beat, especially if you are travelling to a new destination that you know nothing about.....it is always a great starting point, and you can be sure of what the "offer" will be...the rooms are adequate, not fabulous, but you dont spend much time there anyway. The Village is very nice if not a little tired, (the Club is quite old I think and needs a reno), but pleasant gardens, pool area, restaurant areas...about a 4 star I would say. Restaurants are fantastic....all meals were very good. This Club is not right on the beach....you need to cross a small road to get to the beach, but that is not an issue. Beach is very good, lounge chairs and umbrellas available for GM's. Phuket has good, and not so good, locations to stay in......we were very pleased we chose Club Med... Kata Beach is a nice location to stay in.

This was a great place to go and relax. Both our daughters loved all the activities and the pool. Wish there were more vegetarian food options, although there was plenty to eat. The beach was one of the best we have seen with clear water and beautiful sand.

We just returned from 4-day trip at Club Med Phuket, Jan 2014. I’d like to write in summary way for easy reading, hoping more people will benefit from this review.

(A) Resort appearances:
~ Architecture & design of building is okay.
~ Landscape & tress are beautiful.

(B) Room:
~ Aged & old design but cleanliness is acceptable level.
~ Incomplete toiletries. We did not bother to request since we brought own.
~ Understanding that this is near-sea & trees resort but my rooms had at least 35 mosquitoes.
~ My room air con at lowest fan/highest temp, is terribly cold at night. My friend’s room was totally reverse.

(C) Food:
~ Every-meal-Buffet, 60% foods tastes okay but overall lacked of variety & quality. We had a meal outside Club med to find back some food pleasures.
~ Food & plates cleanliness are okay.

(D) Hospitality:
* Restaurant: Almost all staffs are lack of enthusiastic. Not friendly at all.

* Archery: GO, Andy, is friendly & informative.

* Tennis/Table tennis/Basketball: Forgot his name but the GO is very friendly & funny.

* Children (Mini & Baby club): ALL 10 children in our group DISLIKES the Mini or baby club. Some of them liked it when they were in Club med Bintan, Indonesia. GO, Shirley & Ronnie are good & friendly, but a male GO from Mauritius is rude towards the kids but “nice” when parents are around or whenever he’s on stage, don’t know his name.

* Reception: GO, Amy the Assistant Manager, poor handling & communication. Hardly achieve those she promised. Our wedding anniversary cake was written “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”. Restaurant reservation for the same group but she “THOUGHT’ only table for 2 persons. GO, Giulia & Emily are friendly & informative.

* Snorkeling: GO, Vaea is a very arrogant & rude lady. GO, Kyle, the snorkel instructor is average. Snorkel location is not a good one. The snorkeling becomes boring.

The beach has beautiful & soft sand. Water are calm at our time & is clean & beautiful.

Will SURELY not come to this resort again. Totally not worth the money & time.

We (2 adults, 3 kids (11, 9 and 7) spent the last two weeks of December 2013 in Phuket. This was my first experience in Phuket, and I loved the place. The beach is beautiful, the sea is clear and warm and we enjoyed the easy access to Kata, Karon and Phatong on many occasions. The weather was great and the holidays were relaxing.

But... we thought the club med looked more like a 3 tridents than a 4. After spending two holidays in brand new 4 tridents club med (Sinai Bay and Belek), the one in Phuket really seemed old and dirty. The bar area is nice, but all the cushions on the chairs look like they've been here for a while. The main restaurant is ok, but tables, chairs and place mates are terribly dirty. The chairs and the umbrella on the beach and around the pool are ok.

The food is good, a lot of Asian dishes and still something for the more traditional ones. But it feels like the choice of meal doesn't change much. The buffets for the 24th and 25th of December were great. We ate salad, sushi, drank everything with ice cubes and no one got sick.

We had two interconnecting renovated rooms. They were ok, but the cleaning wasn't what you'd expect in Asia.

Our kids always enjoy spending time at the kid's club/passworld, but this time was a bit different as they were many Korean, Chinese and other Asian kids and GOs. This made the communication difficult and the days less fun than usually.

Overall, the atmosphere in the club is much different from the ones in Europe. More quiet, the GOs keep to themselves.

As I said, it was a great experience, but it's a joke on the clients to rate this club as a 4tridents.

A special thank you to :

The chef de Village, who had just arrived and was clearly on his way to improve a lot of things. Someone we would see three times per day, always wondering how things were going.

The circus team, so nice, funny and professional.

The sweet and smiling waitresses at the main restaurant.
