“Great For a Relaxing Break”
Reviewed June 25, 2009

On arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome from the Reception team in an air conditioned room. This was followed by an escorted trip to our room which had been prepared to our complete satisfaction - clean and all services working. The view from our balcony was truly stunning - this vista looked over the hotel pools and onto Karon beach. The cascading waves added to the ambiance.
The breakfast buffet could not be faulted and the restaurant in the evenings provided a very good range of local and international treats. These were served by friendly staff. The cost of food is a tad cheaper at adjacent restaurants but the quality and taste of the food served to us at the hotel negated the need to look outside the hotel. The food was quite yummy and the portions more than adequate.
Karon beach is over a mile long and ideal for pleasant strolls. An additional bonus was watching kingfishers hunt the numerous small sand crabs. If you like swimming then be warned that Karon Beach is 'Red Flagged' in the low season (May to October) as a consequence of rip currents.
Whilst in Phuket we booked a couple of tours and utilised an adjacent tour company (the hotel desk was quite expensive) and would recommend the company we used - 'Trip For Life Travel'. The Managing Director, Preeda Rattanaburi, was very helpful as well as proving ourselves a good deal.
The only downside of the stay was that our sheets were not changed daily - something I would personally expect in a hot climate.

If you're looking into having a vacation, with a relaxed and romantic environment in Phuket, forget Patong beach area, try this resort - Karon beach resort & Spa, and you'll never regret.

My boyfriend and I were both very happy with their services. The room is very clean, and the view is undoubtly breath taking.

This is the only hotel in Karon, or in Patong that have their own beaches or can i say, this hotel is build, right on the beach.

For transportation, its better for you to hire a motorbike. The cost to rent a motobike or scooter is only 250 bath per day (counted by 24 hours). As for tuk tuk, one way from Karon to Patong will cost you around 400 bath.

Food is superb. For those muslim travellers (both of us are muslim), they are plenty of Halal restaurant, operated either by Paskistani or Arabs, that serve mid east food. But if you're into Thai food (well you are in Thailand, Phuket), especially the seafood, you can opt to go to a Arab run Thai seafood restaurant, located just before the strecth of Patong beach, its in green. They serve halal thai food, prepared by Muslim Thais that are from Patani, but the restaurant are owned by arabs. I can recall the name of the place, nor the actual location, but i do know that it will be after the tai pan club, before entering the main road opposite Patong beach.

The things sold at Patong beach are considerably very cheap. But if you want more unique choices, try going to the flee market or the bazaar at Karon beach, you'll find more distinguish design of dresses and bikinis there.

Please, do go to other beach as well, in Phuket. Eg - Kalim Beach, Paradise Beach, etc.
The atmosphere is superb, very different from karon and patong.

As for tour, you must go to the Phi Phi Island and Khai island. One advice, when you arrived at the airport, take a van that will take you straight to your hotel. The cost for this transportation is 180 bath (cheapest transportation in airport). But this van will stop in the middle of the route, to a tour agent. DO NOR PURCHASE ANY TOUR, they will charge you in a very expensive rate. Do al your tour booking after you arrive at your hotel, whether in Patong beach or karon beach. Both my boyfriend and I was rip off by the tour agency.

Anyway, that all. Karon beach resort and spa is must to stay in phuket.

I was in the Karon Beach with a friend and to be honest it's not a hipe hotel, but not down at all. The location is very interesting. The hotel has his own beach. If you pay attention most of the hotels in Kata/Karon/Patong are apart by the road. So, few hotels only have their own beach. If you look for a hotel try also SAWADEE.COM you can locate the hotel on a virtual map with the exact location. Very helpful.

The breakfast buffet was good but not unlimited neighter, choice of chinese/thai or american/continental but enough to start your day. Take your breakfast on the balcony, it worth to be done. The restaurant on the beach is particularaly romantic but the menu is not extraordinary. You'll find a lot of cheap and tasty restaurants in Kata Center (10 minutes walking) and you have straight out of the hotel a western grill and sea food restaurant 3 minutes by walk (450 THB mixed sea food grill plate).

Patong beach is not so far by walk if you want to take some air but when you get tired just holler a tuktuk, BUT DEAL THE PRICE BEFORE GETTING IN !! Normally 150/200THB. Some drivers just stock in front of the hotel and you can deal 250THB Back/forth for Karon-Patong. Patong is the hot spot with everything's in : Hagen Dasz, Mc Donald for people with american food nostalgy ... But also shopping mall, jewerly, permanent make up ...
For girls who love underwares, you can buy WACOAL for 1200 THB !!!!!!! A Wacoal underware set costs 100 EUR in Europe !!!!

If you want to buy gold, you have a trip of phuket tour and you'll visit a jewelry factory with very interesting prices. But you'll find jewel shops at Patong also.
I made beautiful silk dresses that a tailor made for me in 2 days. Just buy the silk material and show them a design from a magazine or a replicate of existing pieces. After having taken your measurements, they will deliver the clothes at your hotel (I paid 2000THB each).

If you have time go to PHI PHI Island which is WOW !! Cheap trips are organized from Phuket 1n/2d in the PHI PHI's.

Hope my review has been helpful. Will go back in Thailand in october to celebrate my B-DAY at Bangkok, first stop in one of the most trendy hotels ... Lebua at State Hotel and keep going to Samui to recover my excess ! And will get back to you for further reviews. Just can wait !!

My sister in law and I had a great week at Karon Beach Resort. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. If I had to complain about something, it would be that the bathrooms are very dark and need a bit more lighting. We had a great view of the beach and the pool. Breakfast was more than adequate on a lovely terrace overlooking the beach. It wasn't five star, but it was very quiet and intimate. The restaurant served great food, at reasonable prices and the staff were all very friendly. The village of Karon Beach has some great restaurants and good shopping and is only a short ride by TukTuk to Patong where we went once and never again. This resort is right on the sands of Karon and we found it very comfortable, clean and relaxing.

As in the title, this hotel offers nothing really spectacular except for the direct Karon Beach access. We spent 3 weeks in Thailand and the 2 nights we stayed in Phuket at this resort were my least favorite.

The rooms are drab, uninspired, and uncomfortable. The only thing his hotel has is the fact it is the only one that is on the beach side of the road. The pool is decent but has its own problems (see below).

The hotel and island in general are too crowded with fat Euro tourists who shouldn't be wearing banana hammocks and want an easy "holiday." The lounge chairs at the pool are all reserved with towels by 0700 whether the Euros actually come out or not.

The massages in the shack on the beach are not very good. The Thai ladies are too busy chatting about how ridiculous the Euros look in their grape smugglers. Other than that there really isn't that much to do here.

Firstly the two reviews dated 5th of Feb and the 9th of Jan do not relate to this Hotel. This hotel is not on the beach and the pictures supplied do not relate. The Centara Karon Beach Resort is in Karon and does not overlook the beach but this isn't a draw back. The Hotel has three pools and three accommodation blocks the Terrace which is a high rise the Lagoon which is two story and the tropical which is also two story. We stayed in a Deluxe ground floor room on the lagoon, very handy for walking out in the morning to collect the Pool towels but this pool area is mainly for kids and families and not really suitable for couples who just want to chill. Previously reviews have complained about the waite for breakfast , you'll be glade to know the management have addressed the problem by opening the azure pool side cafe area for breakfast ,the choice is exactly the same and we preferred it. What makes this hotel is the Staff they are so helpful and polite, it is a little tired in parts but they seem to have an ongoing maintenance cleaning and painting and the grounds are very well kept. We would defiantly stay here again but not in the Lagoon area.

Just got back from staying at the Karon Beach Resort & wanted to let everyone know what a great resort this is.
We picked this resort because we wanted a resort right on the beach at Karon & this was the only one RIGHT ON THE BEACH.
I'm so glad that we did, the resort was much nicer than I thought it would be inside after seeing other photos of the rooms in other reviews. The photos don't do it justice, hopefully the photos I post will do.
Our room which was on the second floor as requested was really tastefully decorated & large. Our room was right in front of the pools & had a great view of the whole of Karon Beach.
The staff were helpful & friendly & always said hello to you.
The pools were great, the smaller one with the pool bar even has a spa area with a wooden bench you can lie on in the spa.We never had trouble getting a sunlounge would go down about 9 or 10am & there were still a few left although the ones overlooking the beach were always taken first but you could get these later in the day. It was good laying by the pool & watching the people on the beach who had to pay 200baht to hire a sunlounge...ha ha.
The breakfast had a good selection of both hot & cold food & it was nice sitting here every morning looking out over the beach.
We didn't use the restaurant here as we had read other reviews that said it was a bit expensive & there were lots of other restaurants recommended on this website so we tried some of them. We went to Dino Park restaurant & Two Chefs for dinner they were both very nice but quite expensive. We ended up dining at the Kata Villa which is just across the road quite a few times as it was very cheap & quite nice.
Actually The Karon Beach Resort is located right at the end of Karon Beach & right next to Kata so all the shops & restaurants near the resort are actually in Kata..There weren't many internet cafes in Kata, we could only find 2, they are really cheap only 1baht per minute, don't know what the resort charged but I am sure it would be much more expensive.
We made a call home to Aus from the resort & it was very expensive twice as dear as our resort in Krabi.
The massages were more expensive at the resort here than in Krabi as well, the ones on the beach in front of resort were cheaper.
We found the tuk tuk ride into Patong to be very expensive, we got it for 300baht each way , down from 400baht. It takes about 15 minutes to get to Patong. Even just going to the other end of Karon cost us 200 baht each way.
Even though the beach is nicer & it is quieter in Karon I think next time we will be staying in Patong to be closer to all the shops & save on tuk tuk fares.
