The Karon Beach Princess is a good modest hotel. Firstly, it is extremely well-situated, just across the street and facing the beach (there are no hotels with direct beach access in Karon). It's rooms are clean and all have a patio or balcony, it offers a substantial breakfast, its staff is friendly and competent. The hotel has extremely limited facilities: only pools, a pool bar, a lobby, a restaurant and a massage parlor.
The different types of rooms are very different, a fact of which potential guests should be aware. I stayed in one of their "de luxe partial sea view" rooms, the most expensive of their rooms. There was nothing 'de luxe' to it but it had a good-sized balcony overloking the pools and with a view of the Andaman sea. Some of the regular rooms, however, have a small terrace facing a concrete wall or a walkway for guests - I would not have liked having to spend two weeks in such a room.
The clintele of the hotel was nearly entirely Russian. So don't expect any fraternizing with other guests unless you speak Russian. Some of the young single males tended to be boisterous and loud.
Price-wise, this hotel is not a bad choice for Karon but there are certainly a number of comparable alternatives at lower prices. I paid US$115/night in high season, booked through a web-based hotel agency.
Overall this hotel was a satifactory choice but I'd recommend going to a slightly more upscale hotel such as the Old Phuket (next door) where for a few dollars more one can enjoy a hotel with more facilities and a better environment.
