You can trust all the good reviews you are reading about this hotel. I did and my expectations were more than met. From the moment we were met at the airport to the sad goodbyes. The gardens are gorgeous. Our ocean view room was a delight. Everything that is advertised on their web site is true. The breakfast buffet is delicious, fresh and the Thai specialties change everyday. The location is perfect: secluded, yet right in the middle of town and with access to a glorious beach. And what really tops it all is the SERVICE! The staff was extremely friendly and everyone went way out of their way to be helpful with anything we needed. We felt like their personal guests or better yet, like we were the owners... This place is a gem. I would describe it as a high end boutique hotel without the snootiness.

Sorry everyone on my previous review, I only gave this hotel 1 star. I made a huge mistake. I meant to give 5 stars on everything. This is truly a wonderful hotel. Very quiet and perfect for couples as it is not inundated with children and is not a family oriented resort. The ocean view room was beautiful, the staff were friendly and helpful. The gardens are well kept and the pool inviting. The hotel is just set off the street, making it very peaceful, but everything is out the front on the street when you want it (restuarants, shops, tuk tuk's, tailors etc). Will definately stay there again

Marina Phuket is a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. My husband and I stayed for 6 nights in early May. We stayed in a jungle room. The room is large and well decorated in the Thai style. It had a large wide screen TV, DVD player and the internet was available on the TV screen (through a small Apple computer). It worked quickly and efficiently and we found this a major benefit as we don't travel with a computer.
The bed is large and very comfortable, linen and toiletries are good quality. It is very quiet in the room and the jungle setting is magnificent. The beach is just out the back.
Breakfast was very good and goes from 6.30 to 11 am. The pool is not huge but large enough, in a beautiful setting with plenty of sun lounges. There is plenty of shade from about midday onwards. The pool was never that busy even though the hotel was at 90% occupancy when we stayed.
The hotel is located between Karon and Kata in the main road. It is set well back so you would not know that you are in a main road and there is absolutely no traffic noise. Just outside the entrance are mini-marts, shops, restaurants, laundry services and anything else you could possibly want. It is about a 5 minute walk to Kata Centre which is much quieter and less hectic than Patong.
The staff at this hotel are particularly friendly. They know your name and room number and their service is excellent. They will happily do anything you ask. It was easily the most personal and friendly hotel we stayed at in Thailand. We will definitely be back.

About Phuket in May: We visited in the beginnaing of MAy and though many warned us that Phuket this time of year would be poisonously hot and humid, we found ourselves quite comfortable. During the 10 days of our holiday it rained (more like deluged!) 3 times. The humidity is indeed high but that softens your skin to the level of a newborn child. The sun is cruel only during its peak hours (12-4PM), otherwise it's safe to take a long walk along the Karon beach.
The Hotel: Marina is an unusual hotel that one must experience at least once - separately standing bungalows situated in the "jungle" (actually a former banana plantation) that boasts a WIDE variety of rare specimen of trees, flowers, all the other possible greenery, complete with squirels, butterflies and many geckos. Hotel is located on a hill overlooking the beach, different parts of the hotel connected by wooden bridges. Jungle-view rooms are located further up the hill (merely walking to your room could easily substitute a Stepmaster workout), so if you are not in the mood for sweating heavily and your butt is in perfect shape, choose the Ocean View rooms - they are closer to the beach, both restaurants, and the street. Garden View rooms are on the middle of the hill, but I did not get excited by the way they looked.
We booked the hotel online and because of start of the low-season received a 50% discount on the room-rate. A free transfer to and from airport was provided in a very comfortable and AC'd executive-class Toyota minivan with an extremely nice driver. The reception area was rather small and unfortunately not AC'd, but we were offered a welcome-drink and cold refreshing towel. Check-in was done swiftly and with no hastle at all, we were then accompanied to our room. We had originally booked a Jungle-view room, as we loved the luxurious pics of the room on the website. However, we were disappointed by the reality - the room was much smaller, room layout was different (no bathtub looking our into the garden); yet all of the promised decorative motifs were kept (awesome hand-coined sink, wigwam roof, super-king size bed), but the room was too dark and small for us, so we moved to the Ocean view room. In this one we got everything that was promised: due size, large panoramic window, nice balcony over the beach. The bed in this room was smaller, and everything looked older, but AC was better manageable, no wigwam roof, but everything we saw on the site was what we got. I later found out that they have different layouts of the Jungle rooms, so it would make sense for you to stress to the hotel that you want to receive the exact layout of the room that they advertise on the site. Also ask for the Jungle room to be closer to the ocean (upon availability, the hotel will be happy to accommodate).
The Beach: Marina is one the VERY few hotels on Karon and Kata to have direct access to the beach without having to cross the road. The hotel is located on the verge of Karon and Kata beach: direct access to Karon and a 10-minute walk to Kata. Karon is the larger beach (both width and length wise) - about 3 km, Kata is cosier, shorter, and more narrow, hence the road with all the cars is closer to you. For a quiet and beautiful beach, check out the Kata Noi beach (better take a tuk-tuk). On all the beaches 1 chair for the day costs 100 Baht, fresh fruit (pineapple, mango, coconut - 40 BT), Thai beer (try Singha!) and sandwiches are available at any time. There are rocks in the ocean right next to the hotel where you should try snorkling - not as exciting as, say, Egypt, but a few colorful butterfly fish are guaranteed. Water is very warm - 30 degC. Sand get into every fold of your clothing and body )) FANTASTIC AQUAMARINE CLEAN WATER! Hotel will provide you with beach towels and change them every day.
POOL: is beautiful, set amidst the said jungle, with many beds, free towels, massage right there, great for the peak hours to rest from the sun and catch a few ZZZ's as there is plenty of shade here. The pool is small though consists of two parts - about 6-8m across and 1.5m deep.
FRUIT: mango is in season in APRIL-JUNE: delicious, succulent and pungent. Try guava, mangosteens, lyches, and if you dare - durian.
SHOPPING: very good quality bathing suits and other apparel by a brazilian brand BARU - right across the street from the hotel. Kata outlet on Taina road actually has real brandname clothing and not copies except fake CAnadian winter jackets, which the salesperson was surprisingly honest about. Otherwise DO NOT FORGET TO BARGAIN - the prices are steep on purpose.
DINING-in: Sala THai restaurant is where breakfast takes place, is better for a quick lunch - hold to the Thai menu (fried rice with M-size prawns and a huge portion of Pad Thai, only 150BT), as the european menu is overpriced. On the Rock Restaurant - highly pompous to a point of being comical - so many changes of plates and silverware in 35 degree heat gets a little overbearing. Staff is really nice, except for one matronly looking waitress that looks at you as if you MUST order a lobster to deserve a smile from her. DINING-OUT: for good Indian food try Khan Baba's on Karon rd, it is easily accessible and has AC. Starbucks is right across the road. For cheaper food and less-harrassed walk go to Taina road: for seafood try Kwong Shop, and for Indian food - Sabai Sabai. Prices are about twice lower than all the other restaurants around. Mom Tri's boathouse on Kata has an EXCELLENT wine list. Savoey Restaurant on the Patong Beach has lower prices on fresh fish and prawns, yet they are overbooked and made mistakes while serving tables.
SPA: for a luxurious experiece complete with beautiful decorations and relaxing ambience try the Baray Spa (it was recommended by Marina). I did a spa-package (steam sauna, thai massage, facial, and scrub) for 3 900 BT. For a cheaper but quality service try the Khun Nom's (look for girls in hot pink polos) spa salon across the street - this salon is clean, girls are not annoying, quite professional in their business, and work very hard. Thai massage+foot massage - 350 BT. Avoid MOOK salons.
P.S. please pet my darling B&W cat, with polka-dot ears, she usually resides in the Thai Sala restaurant during breakfast. Give her some bacon or just pet her - she's unbelievably tender. Even though it appeared that it was actually a HIM, but who cares - it's THAILAND! )) Have a great stay at Marina and explore!

Stayed here with a pal for a long weekend based on a friends recommendation. The hotel grounds were superb, beautiful pool with right amount of shade vs. sun, and of course, steps right down to the beach. True, a lot of steps, but still, this seemed rare when researching resorts in Phuket.

Our room was not so great unfortunately. They had 3 rooms types, garden view, jungle view, and ocean view, and we were in the lowest quality, trying to be budget conscious. this was the garden view, i.e. the one they don't show you ont he website. It was adorable from the outside, a little stand alone bunglaow with a porch. Fairly utilitarian on the inside, 2 single beds. The beds were uncomfortable, sheets were scratchy, and no TV or radio in the room. Also, tons of ants invaded the fruit the staff had left for us (and seemed to refuse to take away) Not a huge deal since of course you are not in Phuket to stay in your room, just not the retreat we were looking for. But I think the other 2 room styles are quite nice, go ahead and splurge if you can! Also, I was there with a friend, but it seemed like a great spot for a romantic getaway, I regretted no having my husband with me!
