I would recommend staying at this hotel if you want to be in a quiet place.
my husband and i stayed at the jungle rooms. very nice rooms, they have everything planned for your comfort: you have available internet access, tea, coffee, water (non of them have extra charge). the closet quite big!, theres a shower and a bath tub, you have lights for everything!! you will remember me when you get there. there is a restaurant that belongs to the hotel and it is near the beach, really good restaurant, and very romantic also.
if you dont want to exercise, this is no hotel for you, or just simply have a bungalow near reception, beacuse to get to most of the rooms you will have to walk uphills.
Didnt like the beach tough, it was very dirty and full of people trying to sell things or simply asking for your money. The beach is not private, so if you want a chair you will have to rent it. It all may be because of the low season, i dont know.

The final 3 nights of our honeymoon (after Indigo Pearl and Phi Phi island Village) were spent relaxing at Marina Phuket Resort. We found the resort grounds beautiful, the Jungle rooms fantastic and very romantic, and the location was great being right near Karon and Kata.
ROOM
we had Jungle Room J404, this was great because it was one of the closer ones to reception (not so far to walk on the boardwalk), but set back futherest from the walkway so very private. The rooms are stunning, very romantic, and have the added bonus of internet/ipod etc. The bathroom, with the pebbles surrounding the bath, was great too.
GROUNDS
Absolutely beautiful - you definitely feel like you are in the middle of a jungle! Lots of wildlife, flowers, trees, native fruits (they have labels so you know what you're looking at). The pool is not huge, but big enough for the resort size, and very pretty with waterfalls and greenery surrounding. It's also whisper quiet which is astonishing as it's so noisy when you step out to the road in Karon!
SERVICE -
Service was great! Staff at the front desk had learnt our names by the 1st day (and this is our 1st visit!), they had a staff member come with us to our room on check-in to explain all the features (especially the computer etc), and apart from the usual flowers/fruits/bed decoration, also gave us a complimentary Sunset Cruise on the resort boat for our honeymoon stay (including private bus transport to Chalong Bay) - which was fantastic!
FOOD -
We got the 'internet' package from their website, definitely worth it. It included daily buffet breakfast ( a lovely spread in the Sala Thai semi-outdoor restaurant), a set thai dinner at Sala Thai (food was amazing!), and latecheckout.
We also had a burger by the pool one day which was not bad at all.
For other meals, we tried the Kata Hill restaurant - very nice ambience but food average, and Ruem Thep Inn down the hill - good, cheap filling lunch. But in retrospect, we should have either tried the other hotel restaurant (On the Rocks) or gone back to eat at Sala Thai!.
ACTIVITIES -
Karon beach is pretty dirty, wouldnt recommend. There are some market stalls halfway down the beach which sold the usual thai souvenirs/fake t-shirts.
Dino Park next door was actually really fun (mini-golf and themed restaurant) and there is a baby elephant who visits dino park at night, and the hotel reception in the mornings.
We also took a day trip around the island, we hired Daj as our driver (you can find his details on Cathy and Gary's Thailand Pages) - who was excellent, well-priced and reliable, his van is quite spacious and importantly, air-conditioned!
OVERALL -
would definitely recommend Marina Phuket to friends or family who want to stay in Phuket - great for familes, friends or couples!

Firstly, let me apologize to the wonderful desk staff at the marina as i promised them i was going to write a review as soon as i got home, but it has taken me three months. Sorry :-)

My girlfriend and i had the most wonderful stay at the marina in January of this year. We arrived in Phuket with nowhere to stay (last minute flight from Seoul, Korea). After a quick search on tripadvisor at the airport, we called the Marina Resort and were lucky enough to get the last room available. It was actually a little bit more expensive than we were hoping to pay, but we figured it was ok for our first night. As it happened, there were two other guests being picked up at the airport as i called. After a quick call to the driver, the reception staff called us back and directed us outside the airport to the driver. The trip from the airport took around 50mins and was very pleasant.

Upon arrival, we were greeted at the reception with cool, scented clothes (offered throughout our stay) and a refreshing coconut drink. After a quick check in, we were shown to our rooms.

The setting for Marina is absolutely beautiful, if you don’t mind being in the wilderness. It literally feels as though you are in a jungle, which for us was perfect, as we wanted a break from the hustle and bustle of Seoul and that’s exactly what we got. The villas/bungalows are spread out over a headland between Karon beach (2 min walk) and Kata beach (10min walk). The manicured gardens, trees, and plants are beautiful. We had no problem with bugs, although we did buy a small plug-in mosquito machine for our room.

The pool area is a little small, but there are two medium-sized pools and a tiny kids pool that can easily accommodate the guests at the poolside. Again the surroundings are beautiful. We spent most of our stay, which ended up being around a week, by the pool and never had any problems getting a lounger. Next to the pool, there is a bar that offers a selection of reasonably priced drinks and food (the burger and club sandwich were great). There is a store right outside the resort where you can by drinks and snacks if you’d prefer. Perhaps my only problem with the pool was the sun disappeared behind the trees at around 3:30, and so if you wanted more sun you would have to walk down to Karon beach. Of note, my girlfriend had a massage next to the pool and loved it. If i recall correctly, it was also great value for money.

There are two restaurants, one by the pool, where we ate on our first night with the free vouchers we received at checked in, and one overlooking Karon beach. There are shows on selective evenings so it is perhaps best to use the vouchers on one of those nights. Dinner was good, but to be fair, if you walk out the resort and turn left towards Karon beach, there is selection of equally good, but considerably cheaper restaurants only 100meters down the road, which have a great selection of seafood and other traditional Thai dishes. We didn’t try the other Marina restaurant, although we heard it good but expensive. There is a buffet breakfast served in the restaurant overlooking the pool. The food was really good and there was a good selection to choose from. Particularly loved the daily cheeses:)

While there is a small outdoor bar next to reception, we never tried it. Instead, most evenings we walked into Kata, which is a right turn at reception and is much closer than walking into the center of Karon. Kata offers a variety of shops, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, a book shop, etc. It really has everything you need. The town itself is much quieter than other towns on Phuket, which suited us fine. If you’re into live music, there is a friendly little rock bar called Easyrider where you can listen to a pretty good band (amazing guitarist) playing a good selection of covers (doesn’t start until 10pm). Further down the road to Kata beach is a court yard that has selection of more modern and livelier outdoor bars.

On our first night, we were given a garden view room (cheapest rooms available). The room was pleasantly furnished and offered a private porch, as i think all the rooms do, but there was no TV and it was at the end of an enduring 8min climb up winding wooden jungle walkways (not ideal for the elderly or young children). Please note, our bungalow was the very last one at the end of the path.

We both loved the Marina so much that we wanted to stay for the duration of our trip. Unfortunately the resort was fully booked for some of that time. To cut a long story short, we stayed in our initial room for three nights, moved to the resort’s sister hotel (Bamboo House) in Karon, and then came back to the Marina to stay in a Jungle room for our remaining few nights. Bamboo House is a newly renovated budget-hotel in the center of Karon. Karon is livelier than Kata and we enjoyed the chance to explore it, but we were really happy to get back to the peace and tranquility of the Marina and Kata.

Our second room at the Marina (jungle view) was out of this world. The bathroom in particular was amazing. Apparently, the jungle view rooms were renovated quite recently. If you can afford the extra money, it is really worth it. The jungle rooms are also much closer to the pool, beach, and reception (and no hill), and they come with a nice LCD tv with mini-mac computer that has free internet and a great selection of movies.

I’m sorry for rattling on, but i can’t stress how much we enjoyed our stay at the Marina. I want to cover two more points and then i am done. First, the reception staff were amazing. They really went out of their way to accommodate us. The manager (sorry, i don’t remember your name) at the Marina was also at Bamboo House while we were there and she was extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you.

If i had to say something negative about the Marina, it would be that an overwhelming portion of the guests were older Europeans and so it could be quite lonely at times. Also, i would have to say that restaurant staff were not anywhere near as friendly and courteous as the reception staff.

However, those issues aside, we had a wonderful trip to Phuket. Thank you to the Marina for such a memorable holiday, and I hope it’s not to long before we are back in our jungle view room (426, or was it 427?).

Mr Wilson and Ms Han :)

p.s The Bamboo House was great value for money, with a nice little pool and modern rooms, equipped with LCD tv and mini-mac computers. There is a great restaurant out and to the left of Bamboo House, maybe two buildings down. Both highly recommended.

We stayed for one night only at the Marina Resort before moving on to their sister hotel the Bamboo House in the centre of the town (reviewed elsewhere). The Marina has a lovely location at the end of Karon Beach with a wooden walkway through the gardens and down to the beach. The gardens are elegant and very well kept, as is the pavilion where breakfast is served. The staff both on reception and in the business centre were extremely helpful. However, the room cost 4000 BHT for one night, it was small, worn and with old furnishings and a dark bathroom and had no TV. If, like the rest of the guests your purpose is to lie on the beach/by the pool then this probably isn't much of an issue - especially as the gardens and the beach access are so good. But if you're on any kind of budget then I'd suggest looking further afield (Bamboo House for example).

We stayed here for one night and admit that I wished we were able to stay longer. It's a beautiful hotel that has a great arrival service of fresh coconut upon check-in. The garden rooms are set within a very jungle-esque little area with individual "bungalows" and their own porches. Signage to your room can be a slight problem, as the bungalows are nestled among a maze of pathways.

The room itself was a good size, but we had a very big problem with spiders, ants, and mosquitoes.... surprising for a hotel like this and for the price we paid. Granted, it IS Thailand, so it wasn't something so unbearable.

The pool is fantastic, but even better is the beach. Absolutely beautiful. Oh, and the breakfast is really really good too (finally, some Thai breakfast options!).

As long as you stay within the hotel grounds, it can make for a very pleasurable trip to Karon/Kata beach. The town is nothing to brag about.

Just returned from 3 nights at the Marina Phuket with my wife and 2 kids. We stayed in a Jungle Room which was well appointed and nicely furnished. The room featured a 32-inch LCD with an in-room Macintosh which provided free internet access, iTunes with a limited selection of music and movies and some online games - pretty cool! Walking to our room was a trek through the 'jungle' (nice gardens) on raised wooden boardwalks - 24-odd stairs to our room where difficult to negotiate on a hot day after an energetic day at the beach! The pool was a little unspectacular but we had just transferred from Phi Phi Island Village and had been quite spoiled. Of the two restaurants, Sala Thai was nice for breakfast (avoid the sausages - cold and didn't look so nice) and traditional thai (free meal provided with internet booking). The other restaurant, On The Rocks Restaurant which overlooks Karon Beach, wasn't so nice - we experienced quite oily food. A highlight for the kids was the appearance of the resident baby elephant at reception each day at 10.30am. The kids loved feeding and patting it and could even go for a short ride! The hotel is also located next to Dino Park which has a great, pre-historic mini-golf course which was really fun.
