Marina is quite a lovely place with so friendly staff!
Jungle room is quiet and mysterious, you need to walk a long way to your room with views of beautiful trees and flowers, and also will meet cute squirrels. So it's a totally private stay which we required in Marina.
It's walking distance to the beach and also the famous restaurant : 'On the rock'

The staff give me a lot of help to understand the activities and also arrange the taxi with no additional charge even when I paid wrong to the driver.

It'll be my first choice and also recommendation to my friends when I get to Phuket again.

The hotel is really as good as I expected. Jungle room is very beautiful and with good privacy. Staff of the hotel are also enthusiastic. Hotel location is quite close to the beach, but inside the hotel is very quiet. We will choose here again for next visiting in Karon.

Room Tip: some of the jungle view room is a little far from the beach and restaurant.

I have stayed at the marina many times before they renovated it. The new version is very disappointing. They have turned into some kind of modern place which makes it look cold and not cozy. The swimming pool used to be amazing with a deep pool for adults, but its gone now and its all just shalow waters.
We went during low season so we had 50% discount on the rooms. We booked a garden view for 3 nigts but left after one because it really wasnt worth the money. The room is really small and i have never seen a bathroomn so tiny. Luckily they reemboursed us the two other nights fully but did not seem to car at all as to why we decided to leave early. The manager was very cold and unfriendly which pushed us even more towards the exit.
Good comment: the breakfast was really nice.

Room Tip: Do not get a garden view! You can get the same quality of service, same location and larger room for...

Dear Ms. Natacha R,

Thank you very much for giving us your feedback on Tripadvisor and we feel sorry for your disappointment. However, we would like to inform you that the Garden View Room (31 sqm) is our smallest size, but we also have bigger room types as the guest's choice.

Regarding our swimming pool, we have upgraded for more enjoyment by enlarging a double size comparing with the previous one and have kept the depth of 1.4 meters for guest safety.

We hope that we will have an opportunity to welcome you back to Marina Phuket Resort in the near future.

We stayed at Marina Phuket 2 years ago and had a good experience, which was why we returned this year. However, a good repeat experience was not to be. I've had my fair share of good and not-so-good hotels but this is the first time that my experience was so bad that I would conclusively say that I'm never going back.

I will start with The Good first. First, the location of the resort, which was by the sea, was convenient. It is close to the shops too so you can get groceries, grab a bite to eat and have a massage. Second, the Oceanview room was a bit tired but overall nice - comfy bed, balcony where you could have a chill out and enjoy a view of the sea (however, could be unblocked, depending on which room you get).

Next, The Bad. First, the hotel does not have the amenities (e.g. bar, in-room dining service) that you would expect, given what the amount of money you pay (USD160 for low season, USD320 for peak season).Second, the service staff are not well-trained. We had requested for an unblocked view of the sea from our room, before we came to the resort. Yes, we understand that this is on a best-effort basis/subject to availability. However, there was no offer of providing us with a room with unblocked seaview at a later time during our stay (maybe Day 2 or Day 3). We had to suggest it to them. On Day 1, they said they would meet us at 11.30am the next day (which I confirmed on the morning of Day 2) to bring us to a room with a better view. At 11.35am on Day 2, we were still waiting for them in our room. I called the Recep - only then did they make their way to my room. Maybe they forgot or maybe they misunderstood. To explain, the Marina Phuket staff is generally unable to understand and speak simple English. For example, we tried to inform them to tell our tailor to come to our room (in those words) but they could not understand. In the end, we asked to speak to the tailor directly. Third, the quality and variety of the breakfast was lacking (given the price you pay - it's always about what you pay). The spread was exactly the same as it was 2 years ago - some ham, some breads, waffle/pancake, some fruits, boiled rice, juices (not freshly squeezed), some thai noodle dish (loads of msg - for the uninitiated, good quality Asian food does not need to be laced with arguably poisonous substances to be tasty) and you could order eggs etc. Fourth, room service was disappointing. They were unable to clean the toilet properly on Day 2 - we had to request that they come back (when the water was working again - more on that below) to clean it again.

Finally, The Downright Ugly. If you expect to get a working tap/shower whenever you need it when you stay in a basic hotel room (not even a supposedly nicer one like Marina Phuket), you may not get it at Marina Phuket. We were unable to get water on Day 1 at night (we tried to communicate that to the staff but they couldn't understand so we asked them to come to the room. They never came, but the water did work after a couple of minutes). We experienced it again on Day 2 in the afternoon at 3pm after some fun at the beach. Imagine being all sandy and oily from suntan lotion only to find that the shower/tap in your room isn't working, hasn't been working since 1pm (2 hours ago) and wouldn't be working until at least half an hour later. We were not informed in any way that the water had broken down - there was no note, no apology from the recep staff, nothing. If you then expect good customer service recovery after such an unpleasant experience, you won't get it unless you demand it. We spoke to the hotel manager who apologised and offered us the use of a jungle room to bathe. While this was unacceptable to us, given that we had paid for the Oceanview room, I had to bathe given the discomfort I was in (imagine having sand in parts where the sun don't shine). We told her we wouldn't pay full price for the room, but left it to her to decide how much we should rightly pay. On check-out day on day 4, we were then given the bill for the full price of the room. We asked to speak to the hotel manager again who apologised. After negotiating (which we have to admit, didn't go well at some parts ), she finally agreed that we shouldn't pay for the day that we had suffered the watery inconvenience, as it was not expected of any hotel. Not without using emotional blackmail and informing us that the money would have come out of her salary. After saying this, she then proceeded to scold us in Thai. What she said sounded total crap to us (however, if it's true, then this hotel should be avoided at all costs) and it showed how unprofessional she was. The hotel failed in three key areas: poor plumbing facilities; not selecting the right staff; and not training its staff to manage minor crises (let's not talk about major e.g. evacuation of hotel staff in the event of a natural disaster) and addressing customer service failures appropriately.

In conclusion, it's a nice enough hotel with good location, but with its failings which only you, as a consumer, can decide if you are willing to overlook. If you are ok with paying USD150 a night and up, can live with smelly toilets, are not fussy about having no bar/in-room dining, not fussy about the breakfast, can endure the trouble of not being able to communicate your basic needs to the staff successfully, and are ok to take the risk that you might not have water throughout your stay, you can consider Marina Phuket. Otherwise, avoid.

Dear Youngauntysg,

Thank you for your response. We pride ourselves in providing our guests the highest levels of service but during your stay with us we missed the mark.

As our team are doing very best to find proper solutions and also most often succeed as the majority of our reviews is a proof of, it can happen sometimes that all efforts will be insufficient resulting in our guests. In the future, we will take this incident to be our lesson learn and prevent this.

Again, please accept our apologies and we do hope you give us another opportunity to re-earn your loyalty.

On our recent Thailand trip this was our last port of call before returning home. We chose to stay in one of the Grand Villa Rooms and it was very comfortable and well appointed. It overlooked the beach and we were treated to some interesting lightning displays on two evenings from over the ocean.

The pool was area was impressive but very much land-locked amongst the luscious rainforest surrounds. Unfortunately its location meant it got virtually zero natural breeze, or wind, which would make it extremely hot in peak season. We chose the beach instead.

The resort had almost finished a major reno and I can imagine the finished reception area would have been quite spectacular when the water features were finished.

It was a surprise, and somewhat disappointing, that there was no in room dining, gym or spa facilities.

Room Tip: Grand Villa Room 209 was very good.
