“Beautiful Marina!”
Reviewed July 19, 2011

We stayed at the Marina Phuket from the 26th June-9th July. Being low season they were offering 50% off their normal rates making the ocean view room at very attractive $150 US per night.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay however there were some minor issues over the course of our stay which they could possibly improve upon.

- We paid for an ocean view room and were lucky enough to get a fairly good view of the ocean with a few minor obstructions from the vegetation. However the view from the room next door to ours was completely obstructed and shouldn't be sold as ocean view. There were a few like that so be mindful when booking.
- Cleaning of the room was done daily, however I had to ring and ask them to do this on a number of occasions. Not good to come back to room in the afternoon having been in the sun all day only to find the room still unmade. Although the maid replaced the shower gel for some reason they never replaced the bar of soap....little odd!
-Airconditioner was quite often either freezing or not working at all. We had a few power blackouts and at first I thought this caused the problem with the air conditioning, however I would set it to the same temperature and some nights it too warm others we were freezing.
- There were renovations on the Sala Thai restaurant and then the day before we were to leave, they started renovations the building next to ours. I already new from reading these reviews that the restaurant was being renovated however it should be published on their website and if they are going to carry out renovations right next to other rooms then the occupants should be warned. Luckily it was our last day otherwise I would have been more upset.
-As someone below mentioned, the rooms are not particularly large and it surprised us that there were quite a few families with children staying there as it doesn't have any child friendly facilities.
- The beds were very hard however the staff were very quick to have a mattress topper fitted for us and after that I slept really well as it was lovely and soft!
It is a beautiful resort, right on the south end of Karon Beach. We enjoyed our breakfast overlooking the beach every morning and the staff at breakfast were lovely. It is also in a great location for exploring Karon and Kata, with so many shops, restaurants and massage places close by. We also loved the baby elephant and the squirrels, lizards and other wildlife you see all throughout the gardens! So all in all I definetly think we will be back.

Stayed Jungle room for 3 nights, booked direct with resort which included round trip airport transfer and breakfast.

Room: Beautifully decorated with all the amenities including 4 bottles of water everyday. Although little smaller than expected. It was fine for us but might be too small for family with kids. Balcony was nice and relaxing, not many insect as some reviewers mentioned which was relieve. Internet provided through Mini Mac & Flat TV screen. For WiFi need to contact reception to be provided router/modem. We've been trying to access wifi without success for first day until find out modem need to be installed.

Ground and Swimming Pool: Garden and board walk is beautiful and very pleasant to walk around. Swimming pool is consists of 3 small pools. It was very noisy due to renovation work being carried out right next to the pool area (ie Restaurant Sala) We only bare to stay for half an hour.

Breakfast: We were offered breakfast every morning at "On the Rock Restaurant" instead of Sala which is their usual breakfast restaurant due to renovation. "On the Rock" is just beautiful, we managed to get a table close to the ocean every morning and it was such a blessing to have a breakfast there. Looking over Karon beach, waves crashing on the rocks and birds chirping. Selection of food is limited if you expect full spread of buffet breakfast, but for us it was enough to keep us happy. Selection of bakery, fruit, juice, cereal on buffet table. Eggs, bacon, sausages, Thai noodle soup can be ordered. Freshly brewed coffee was nice too. With the view like that the food didn't really matter to us.

Airport Transfer: Hotel representative were ready to pick us up when we arrived in a private van. We were staying 2 nights in Patong after Marina Resort, I requested drop us to Patong Millennium instead of airport transfer. I was not happy when they refused, apparently the free transfer is only from/to airport.

There are heaps of shops, restaurants, massage shop, mini marts, money changers, motorbike hire right outside of the resort, so very convenient location.

Overall it was very nice & relaxing stay for the first 3 nights of our holiday. It was a good value for money at 50% off rack rate during monsoon season, but I am not sure if I would stay there paying full price.

This hotel offers 50% off during low season if booked through their website, so we paid $US150 per night for a Jungle Room, which included airport transfers, breakfast and a set dinner on one night. We missed our connecting flight due to the late arrival of our flight into Bangkok, however the airline called the hotel for us and rearranged our pick up from the Phuket airport without any issues.

When we arrived at the hotel we were given a cool towel and welcome drink, then shown to our rooms. The room was located off a boardwalk through the jungle. The room was very modern and spacious, it had a flat screen TV mounted on the wall with a reasonable selection of channels, a huge comfortable super king sized bed, a day bed, in room safe, minibar, tea/coffee making facilities, welcome fruit platter, complimentary wifi internet, plenty of space to put clothes and suitcases, a beautiful large bathroom with separate bath and rain shower, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soap. A beach bag and two beach towels are supplied, which are replaced each night when left outside the room.

Outside the room was a large deck area with two deck chairs and a small table.

The service at the hotel was great. Breakfast had a great selection of cereals, juices, breads, pastries, cakes, fruit, espresso coffee, different types of teas, and eggs cooked to order accompanied with sausages or bacon. We ate at both the hotel restaurants, however I didn't feel the food was anything spectacular. Within easy walk of the hotel are a great selection of restaurants and bars, which have much better food, which is also better value.

The hotel is located at the southern tip of Karon Beach - a great swimming beach with very warm water. The beach has loads of deck chairs and umbrellas which you can rent for the day, along with guests from other hotels. There are several kiosks on the beach that serve soft drinks, water, alcohol and food at very reasonable prices.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We were disappointed with this hotel for the following reasons:

Ocean View: we were told we would have views to Karon beach. Our room (D212) did not have a view to the beach. We had restricted views of the ocean and rocks below, through the garden foliage. Other rooms may have better views. At least it had total privacy.

Room size: The Ocean View room is small and not suitable for 2 adults and 2 children. When we opened the door, one of the children's beds actually blocked the walkway. You would need two connected Ocean View rooms for a family of four.

Airconditioner: the airconditioner is inadequate. When we left the room, the key is removed from the slot, which means the airconditioner is switched off. We asked for another key at reception, this allowed us to leave the airconditioner going all day, and this helped solve the problem.

Pool: the pool is small for a resort. However, it is beautifully landscaped in a tropical surround.

These are the positives:

Restaurant: There is a magnificent restaurant right on the rocks facing Karon beach. The staff are sensational there. The breeze, the views, the atmosphere is hard to beat!

Gardens: This hotel has incredibly beautiful gardens. There were numerous tropical flowers on display, as well as fruit trees with fruit hanging from them. A true magical garden which is daily manicured. All the units are hidden by foliage and flowers. Lots of shade around the pool.

Location: I think this hotel is far away from the 'seedy' parts of Phuket. There are shops outside the hotel where you can eat and shop. A nice location.

Staff: The staff were extremely family friendly.

Breakfast: I am fussy about my breakfast, so this is a minor point. My husband was happy with the choices, however I felt it needed more variety.

Overall, we loved the gardens, the restaurant, the location. However, when we returned to our room we felt disappointed.

we stayed for a week and loved it. great access to Karon beach and a 5 minute walk to Kata Beach. the pool area was quiet and very tropical. the whole resort has great gardens and is spread out so it doesn't feel crowded. Breakfast was great every day and the restaurant staff were very attentive. they got to know what we liked and looked after us very well. the room, we stayed in an ocean view villa, was big. a large bathroom, king size bed and plenty of space. we used the tour desk and they were very helpful. we had such a great time staying there. Nadia the baby elephant was also a pleasant surprise to see each morning. can't say enough about this place. if we get back to phuket again we'll definitely be staying at Marina Phuket Resort!!

Although I didn't want to pay top dollar I wound up with a deal @ $134 for this 5 star property and I couldn't be more pleased. The hoteliers were willing to negotiate the price down from their already 50% discounted rate, whatever that meant. I was given an opportunity to see the rooms before choosing, and they quickly changed rooms when the smell of insect spray was detected.
Breakfast was included but not the best feature. Best thing about the property was internet access with mini macs in each room, finally!
Great shower gels, gorgeous bathroom, but no lights in am. Couldn't get that across to staff as they only nodded when I explained why I couldn't shower. But since I did shower at least twice the day before who's complaining?

Room Tip: Any room was fine, although the ocean view was really a "partial" view, save your money.

Can't say anything bad really about this resort. There is no reason to stay in Patong anymore or any other hotels in other areas of Phuket. It's a paradise and I had a very good time here.

Excellent Value: Booked directly on hotel website and got 50% discount. Only costs USD80 per garden view room (they upgraded up to jungle views room upon check-in). The charges include free airport transfers which need 50 mins, a Thai dinner and everyday breakfasts which are good.

Good transport: everything easily accessible. Door to door service by their airport pickup, 10-20 mins tuk tuk ride to Patong.

Wonderful beach: it's on the Karon beach which is clean, sand soft, quiet and relaxing, 15 mins walk will reach Kata beach which is more lively, has more people, quality of beach equally good.

Rooms: it's spacious, clean, with style and taste, everything excellent, provides beach towels, welcoming fruits.

Gardening good: Though it's in a jungle, it's clean tidy, no mosquitoes bites while the area remain natural with flowers, plants, small animals or lizards around. Environment quiet.

Service good: we joined a one day James Bond Island tour and the Fanta Sea show through the hotel. Arrangement good, door to door transfer, price of the tours reasonable with discount. Staff of the hotel good though one receptionist doesn't speak and listen English so well.

What else can I say? Don't tell others except your best friends....it's a gem.
