“Definitely not a 4* hotel”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

Having been promised a 4* hotel experience, I was already a bit cautious about this hotel based on previous reviews I had read. Some positive / some negative. I know everyone has different expectations and different experiences so I try to stay open minded when reviews are mixed (obviously if reviews are generally negative that brings up a red flag to stay away). As a result of the reviews I read I specifically asked to stay in the new wing of the hotel that had been built a few years back. On arrival the lobby was lovely, welcome drinks offered and check in smooth. As we were being shown to our room I could see that the hotel itself was in need of some TLC. Cracks in walls, chipped paint, general wear and tear that you would expect a 4* hotel to upkeep. Upon arriving at our room we were shown in an on first impressions all looks well. It was a large room with a big bed lovely bathroom. The cons of the room were the face that the floors had been painted white. Not a great colour as we could see many stain marks, yellow colour distortion, some red marks in the bathroom which my partner thought to be blood spots. It made the whole room feel a bit grimy and you did not feel comfortable walking without flipflops on. The balcony as well was very run down, chips in the concrete, but great view of the pool which was not kept as clean as it could have been. Great views of Karon beach and the jungle from the outside of our room door. Breakfast was disappointing. Not a big tasty selection. Hygiene standards need to be addressed as there were a lot of flies around the food, which is obviously expected in such a hot country but glass lids should have been used to cover bread and pastries, not big napkins which flies could easily get passed. The hotel was in a good location close to many restaurants and of course the beach which was just across the road. Karon beach was very dirty unfortunately. Lots of discarded items that ruined the beauty of the place. The hotel was fine for short time but definitely lacked that 4* luxury feel. I would give this a 3* experience.

Room in the serene wing with pool access was beautiful, all amenities and location to the beach and town centre were good. Disappointing that the gym only had minimal equipment ( treadmill, a couple of bikes and steppers) with no weights (husband was very annoyed at this).

Room Tip: If you don't have young kids, ask for a pool access room in the serene wing, it appears to be th...

I stayed in a pool access room at The Old Phuket in May 2013 and will be again returning to stay there in October 2014. I have been back to Phuket within the last couple months but stayed in Patong, though I was a little dissapointed and much prefer Karon.

The service was impeccable, anything that was out of order or not working properly they were straight on it. (blocked toilet).
Value for money we couldn't go past it great price for a great resort in my opinion.
Sleep quality wasn't the best I will admit due to the rock hard bed but as I have experienced now in Thailand all hotel beds are the same (cheaper, perhaps easier to manouver??)

Room was always clean and smelt amazing, the house maids did their job outstandingly and always tipped them if I was in the room or was coming in as they were leaving.

You really can't beat better location in Karon as the beach side was filled with great places to eat such as the Butterfly Bistro (great cheap food, good for families) and of course the beah less than a 5 minute walk from you're room.

As I said I stayed in the pool access room so the room was super special, I found the bathrooms totes epic in how big they were and how modern and beautiful they were.

I cant comment on the spa as I travelled with another Male friend and we didn't partake in the spa but from the talk around the pool it sounded very nice and relatively cheap for resort standards.

The breakfast buffet was amazing which catered for not only Western cultures but a wide range of other preferences of choice.

All up I rate The Old Phuket a great place to stay and I can't wait to get back there! :-)

Room Tip: In Australia you can book to stay in a pool access room for a little over $67 per night and trust me...

Recently stayed at the Sino wing of the Old Phuket resort. The rooms are clean and spacious, with a Jacuzzi in the balcony. Amazing view from the rooms. Pool on the third floor offers a picturesque view of the Big Buddha. The property is well maintained and located a short walk away from the beach. Staff is polite and friendly, would definitely recommend it to my friends.

Room Tip: If choosing the Sino wing, go for the rooms with a private Jacuzzi on the third floor.

Recently stayed at Old Phuket Karon beach. Location is great for shopping, temple markets and beach and restaurants etc. Sino9 wing a bit tired but still very clean and comfortable and each has a balcony. Both pools are fantastic. Breakfast daily was yummy buffet and has everything you could want. Recommend a stay here for sure

Room Tip: Serene wing is newer but more expensive, if staying in Sino wing rooms on 3rd floor are on same leve...

Booked the hotel for the first leg of my honeymoon.Booked a room in the Sino wing but was upgraded to a pool side room on arrival. The room was spacious attached with a big bathroom. The entire room was painted white which was something I didn't particularly like. Our room had a faulty air con ,but after making a complaint was fixed asap . The pool is big and lovely. The complimentary Breakfast is good with a lot of variety, however they don't mix it up much daily. The location is good ,right outside the beach. It is a quiet and beautiful place with a lot of resteraunts right outside.I recommend it highly if you are looking for a peaceful vacation .

There's so many hotels to choose from in Phuket but I'm so glad I chose this one. Located on Karon Beach you're close enough to step into the madness if you want to, being able to get a taxi at any time of day/night into the more active parts of Phuket. We went to Bangla Road, Patong one night and were so glad to be staying far away from there. Karon beach feels relaxed.

We stayed in the old Sino Wing with our own private jacuzzi and outside shower. The room was modestly decorated and you really felt a sense of space. There were a lot of Mosquitos around being rainy season but we got bitten here the most.

The staff are friendly but they don't harass you so you feel complete freedom. There's a free shuttle service to the main destinations on Phuket which proved helpful especially as you know they're not trying to rip you off as it's free lol.

The gym is open air so can get very hot! The pool is huge and there's lots of sun loungers. There's also only wifi in one designated area. All in all with its great views including the Giant Buddha on the hills this was a nice place to stay.
