We went to Phuket mainly to go diving (4 great 3-dive/day trips with the excellent Dive Asia, very professional, competent, friendly, highly recommended) and the Old Phuket was a great base for this and a couple of days doing some shopping and lots of good eating. Our spa room in the Sino wing was spacious, charming (we liked the Portuguese style window between the bedroom and bathroom) while relaxing in a warm spa, on the equally spacious private porch, at the end of a day diving or shopping was excellent recovery before strolling down the street to struggle over which restaurant to choose, because it meant missing the others. Markets, shops and beach nearby meant we didn't need to go far for anything we wanted. Staff unfailingly pleasant and helpful. We would happily return.

Room Tip: A spa suite on level 3 of the Sino wing gave us a a great view of the mountains, even the Big Buddha, was not noisy, and was on the same level as the swimming pool.

Don't go by the name. Old Phuket resort is not old or decrepit. If at all, it is beautiful with lush gardens, beautiful property and an azure blue swimming pool. What I liked was that some of the rooms that had pool facing verandah actually had private access into the pool. So you could swim off your verandah and get into your room when you want to change. Neat!

When we entered our room, I was struck by the pristine beauty of our room. Everything was white: white walls, white flooring, white curtains, white furniture, and white beddings. Even the bathroom had a large white Victorian bathtub. The bathroom is so spacious that six people could be inside without bumping into another!

We had booked for a suite, and it more than met our expectations. The room was huge, had separate beds for the children. Everything was tastefully done, though it did not look like expensive architecture. The room overlooked the pool and we had a private sit-out so that we could enjoy the view.

The breakfast was at a separate wing of the resort, that gave us the opportunity to look around the resort. There was a special spa at the lawns where one could get a relaxing Thai massage in the midst of greenery.

The staff at the reception desk were helpful. Ms. Chacha was a delight to talk to. As she told us, outside the resort, there were "many many many marts" from where we could buy stuff. And indeed, the place was alive with activity even late at night. We enjoyed walking on the streets outside the resort, exploring the shops and food outlets.

I would strongly recommend this property for families, especially with kids. If you have grown up kids, go for the suite, especially the one with the private pool access. They are the best!

Room Tip: Choose the room with private swimming pool access. They are the best! Or ask for a suite!

We recently spent 16 nights here. The only fault we really had was a toilet that kept blocking. 4 times. We rang through to ask for someone to come fix it on each occasion but o one was sent so we had to unblock it ourselves. The staff are excellent and very friendly. Reception could do with a front person that's more fluent in English as it was sometimes hard to communicate. The guards on duty at the gates are fantastic. Pool was beautiful. Closes at 7pm tho which is too early for the heat of the day. Room was fabulous an spacious.

What a great place with plenty to see and do locally and very close to the mayhem of Patong. A great place to retreat back to after a busy day exploring. Friendly and welcoming staff. Cool and clean bedrooms. Very close to the beach. Excellent daily breakfast. Great pools available.
The only drawback was when given a free lift to some local markets we had a compulsory stop at some 'local shops', which turned out to be a very sad place selling ivory products and very disappointing to see tourists paying money to get their photos taken with a sickly chained up baby elephant and four crocodiles contained in a small pool with no water (36 degrees this day) - saying this, visiting this place was more about dodgy fellow tourists behaviour and choices rather than being about the hotel.

Room Tip: I was in the Sino Wing and my friend was in the Serene Wing but both were great.

The Old Phuket resort Hotel was a great experience. We just loved the layed-back relaxed atmosphere of the place from the charming olde-world décor of the Sino wing to the beautiful open air reception/lobby area. The staff were so helpful and courteous at all times including the gate security guy at the exit to Karon beach and shops who always had a Cheshire Cat smile and a snappy salute for guests. We had buffet breakfasts included in our stay and the food was a bit ordinary with not a lot of variation and I think that the hotel should look at enclosing and air-conditioning the open aired dining area to assist in guest comfort and basic food hygiene as the flies are a bit of a pest. The pool on the 3rd floor of the Sino wing was quite pleasant however in our opinion the opening hours of 10am to only 7pm are a little limiting for those who have had a big day out and just want to relax with a cool drink by or in the pool. Old Phuket management seriously need to look at this.

Overall though our six days at the Old Phuket were a lot of fun and we found the restaurants around Karon Beach to be fairly good standard and well priced. Oh, and don't forget to get a massage. The best place is the massage place immediately on the left as you leave the hotel grounds at the beach exit. The foot massage is just fabulous and well worth the 400baht.
