“New wing great! Old Wing........???”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stayed at the Hotel in June 2012, we had an overall great time! When we checked in we found the reception staff to be friendly and helpful. We were checked in to what was a deluxe room with its own outside spa bath, which was an absolute disaster!! Upon checking in we found the most awful mould smell in the room which was unbearable. We decided not to mention anything yet as we have not slept for over 30 hours and all we wanted to do was chill! The room is extremely spacious more than what you would expect. The first time we wanted to take a shower ALL the towels was stained and rock hard so we had to request fresh ones. Our first night sleep was something out of a horror story… The Air Conditioner is placed right above your bed which was extremely noisy, and to top it off it was leaking through the night! You had to sleep on the corners of the beds otherwise the water drips on you (imagine the sound). During the day before, the air con tripped its power about four times and we had to call maintenance to come and fix it.
The mouldy smell never disappeared and it was honking. The spa bath outside was made of natural stone (I presume, not an expert) but the bottom edges was full of green mould. We then decided that we are not going to stay in this room and would rather go to a standard room where everything is working and clean. We spoke to a lady we think she was the Guest relation manager who then advised us that we can move to the new wing?? The new wing was a day and night difference, the standard rooms made the old deluxe rooms look like a 1 star.
We eventually paid 500 bhat per night extra to upgrade to a pool access room which was fantastic. The rest of the resort was great and staff helpful and friendly.
Ps when staying there make sure you know where you will be staying as we know of a few people that was queuing to complain about the same things we were.

Room Tip: Choose the new wing!

We stayed in one of the newer wings for our honeymoon back in april, and it was lovely. The service at Old Phuket is amazing. The lady who came and cleaned our room each day was friendly and happy and willing it come back whenever suited us best.
The tour desk is great too, we hired scooters there several times with no problems. They do require you to leave your passport there, but most places do. She also booked us in for the Kata Thai cooking school which was one of our favourite experiences.
The buffet breakfast is excellent, some items stay the same such as the salad bar and fruit/yoghurt. But each day there was different curries and basic breakfast items which was great.
The only downside was we were out on a boat the day of the tsunami warning and when we got back were not given much information. However, this is a natural disaster and we didn't get back til late so we had probably missed the main announcements.
Oh and the little side entrance off the older wing has some great restaurants, we tried all of the ones in it and loved most of them, a lot of which are attached to the hotel. Great cocktails!
I would definitely go back!

Very nice place in Karon Beach. We stayed for 5 nights and had a very nice time. Near the hotel we found many restaurants and markets and a beautiful beach. The room wasn't very new but we knew it, it was the "Sino Wing" (old portuguese style), instead it was well clean.

We enjoyed also the small pool in the Sino Wing, and the new year party.

Room Tip: We looked inside a room at the ground floor on the Sino Wing and there was a little smell of humidit...

The Hotel location is better than i expected, service is good and the staff are helpful. What i find unreasonable and crazy is the compulsory New Year's Eve dinner: 4500 THB/ adult, 2250 THB/child and no any drink is included. What a rob of money! !

We stayed here for 9 nights in late November and had a great time. We stayed in the Sino wing on the ground floor and we couldn't have been happier with the room and it's location. It was very clean, bed was hard but very comfy, bath was great and the outdoor shower was handy. The breakfasts were delicious and a'll the staff were very friendlying especially Oh at the tour desk we will definitely be back!

We recently stayed at old Phuket hotel for 5 nights with our 2 year old daughter. First of the location was great, short walk to restaurants, beach, and massages. The pool is great but at times I felt like I was intruding on the pool access suites, we stayed in the pool view suites in the serene wing (definitely stay in the serene wing) but I recommend staying the pool access suites.
Breakfast was great. The massage hut girls were fantastic and very affordable. The bathrooms were well planned and it was good to have a bath in the room.
Overall I said average because i had to pay for wifi when it should be free, the tv needed fixing and our key didn't work, but these are relatively minor things for the hotel.

Room Tip: The pool access rooms in the serene wing are a must! The sino wing is far from the pool.

The Old Phuket hotel is truly amazing.
My partner and i was there over the Christamss and New year period. The Christamss and New Year buffet dinner was great, they really went all out in preparing for the special occasions.

Overall, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are great and the services offered by the hotel are up to standard.
We are very happy and cannot wait to plan our next trip to Phuket. :)
