“What a pleasure !”

Before I go any further, I would like everyone to know that I recon "attitude" plays a major role in life. We stayed in a beautifully decorated Sino Wing room. This room met all our expectations, but seeing that we were on a well deserved holiday we were out and about and the only time we were in our room was when we went to bed. The staff was all very friendly and helpfull. We thourougly enjoyed the buffet breakfasts. The gardens are very well kept and the swimming pools were sparkling. The free shullte service to Central Festival Mall as well as to the Weekend Market in Old Phuket Town came in very handy A day before we had to check out, there was a slight sewerage problem and without asking, the hotel mangement moved us to a fantastic Serene wing room with pool access - luxury galore. This hotel is walking distance from the beach and all other amenities. Therefore, if one's attitude is positive, any holiday will be amazing but Old Phuket Hotel will definately see us again !

We stayed in a very spacious deluxe room in the Sino wing. It was a wonderful and pleasant experience. The staff was extremly friendly and pleasant. We also experienced problems with the toilet not flushing but was later fixed. I only had one bitter experienced, we arrivedat the hotel about 10:45am and had to wait for more 3hours to check-in. We were told that the check-in time was at 14:00 and the room was not ready. On the whole it was a wonderful experience and highly recommend this hotel.

From the moment we arrived at The Old Phuket hotel our expectations were exceeded. We were upgraded to a deluxe room in the Serene wing which was very modern, clean, and spacious. The location of the hotel is very close to Karon beach and all the essential amenities are within short walking distance (restaurants, suit shops, tuk-tuks, massage parlours etc.).

All the hotel staff that we dealt with, right down to the cleaners, were friendly and attentive and generally went out of their way to make our stay stress-free. We received especially good service from Odie at the front desk and Som at the Shark Restaurant.

The included buffet breakfast was very good and it is set in beautiful surroundings. The hotel provides free shuttles to neighbouring Patong and the night market in Phuket Town, which we made good use of but you must book way in advance to avoid disappointment. To our amazement the massages were cheaper at the hotel than in the rest of Karon due to off-season discounts. There is a small gym and entertainment area onsite but they aren't on the same scale as bigger resorts and they don't have a kid's club. This didn't bother us as we don't have kids and went jogging along the beach.

Our only real criticism is that the hotel doesn't provide free wifi (24 hour access cost 200 THB which is pricey for Thailand) but this might actually be an advantage as it forced us to take a proper break from the Internet and spend more time sightseeing.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend The Old Phuket to anybody that appreciates great service and value for money. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Rooms in the older Sino Wing are more quaint and traditional whereas rooms in the newer Serene Wing...

I spent 10 days at the old phuket with my wife and 3 teen-aged daughters. We were in the old sino wing which was Ok, but we had a number of small niggles that has made me think that we could have found a better hotel in the same price range.
Firstly the beds are hard, but I like a hard bed so I slept like a log, but the double bed is in fact two single beds pushed together, so if you and your partner want to sleep together and cuddle, you have to choose one side to lie on and it is a little cramped.
Also they only gave us one bedside table with one lamp. I asked for a second table and lamp so that we could both read in bed and was told that this is not possible....I booked a double room I expect double bedside amenities like table and lamp. Only two pillows. I asked for two extras and they did arrive.
The toilet got blocked twice. On the first occation they only fixed it the next day. The second time they were more prompt.
Then the one and only bedside lamp (which my wife and I took turns in using) started to flicker. I asked for someone to come and fix but it never happened. I finally did it myself. It was a lose connection at the plug.
The hotel is a little run down. The board on the outside are peeling and need a coat of paint and things are in need of a little TLC.
The lobby is open. We had to sit their for quite a while as our rooms were ready at 2Pm. This is the time they say, but often the rooms were only cleaned late in the day, and once not at all. If they were a bit more efficient in this regard perhaps they could get the rooms ready a bit sooner? But the lobby does not have comfortable seating...a few hard chairs and long bench like items that look nice, but are not great to sit on for hours. Also being open it is hot. After a long flight it was a bit of a bad start.
But the biggest problem that we has was a long red cusion type thing that are in all the rooms. Just after we checked in they brought in a new clean one. No problem with that except that I think they must have cleaned it with some chemical that caused my wifes throat to close up during the night. At 1.30 am I was worried that we would have to go to a hospital, but we went for a walk and she got better and we realised that it was something in the room. We put the offending item in the passageway. The next day we told the front desk what has happened.. The cleaning staff tried to put it back but we told them no. We did not get an explanation from management.
The tea cups were dirty, they play the same one CD every day all day little things like that, no one of them of great importance, but overall I will try another hotel next time.

Room Tip: I think they are all OK. The sino wing also has a roof pool which is also nice.

We stayed 8 nights in a deluxe pool room in Serene wing.Very bright and airy, great bathroom.Housekeeping everyday. Our daughter and her family are interested in staying as well but they have two children 4 and 6.As there is no kid's club there is only the pool and playstation facilities available. There are plenty of tours that would be good for kids(elephant rides,Fantasea,Phi Phi island etc.In a great position in between Patong and Kata beach with plenty of markets and eateries all along the beachfront.Breakfast great.Staff cannot be any more polite or helpful with fairly good english and ready to have a joke with you.We are ready to go back as soon as possible.

Room Tip: Serene wing a newer part of hotel but if you are looking for something quieter and more private,Sino...

We stayed at The Old Phuket from 12-21 August in a pool access room in the Serene Wing and had a wonderful time.
The pool can get a little noisy but all-in-all we loved our room. The air conditioner was possibly the most effective we've come across! We had a nice big room and very nice bathroom. Unfortunately the rooms were sometimes only cleaned after lunch.
Wi-Fi is quite expensive, but there are several computers for guest's use which we found helpful for transferring photos off our cameras.
There are dozens of nice restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel, and a very big market selling clothing, handbags, shoes etc, and several supermarkets all close to the hotel.
The staff are very nice and helpful and the massages offered on the lawn are excellent and well priced.
The hotel offers free rides into Patong at various times of the day, but you have to make your own way back, which isn't a problem because of the hundreds of taxis and tuk tuks - the latter charge 400baht but can be negotiated down to 300 quite easily!

stayed here for 3 nights from 3rd Sept, excellent location and friendly staff, room was clean and roomy, although had one too many chairs in room no to put it so it was out of the way. Toilet may have been blocked or it was just slow to flush and also no hot water early on the morning we left, not sure if this was hotel thing or not as it came on after 7am, reported this to reception when I was leaving bur they did not seem to care about it or may not have understood. Also excellent breakfast with plenty to choose from, 2 pools at hotel to use with bars only a short walk though to beach and markets etc close by for bartering
