We recently went to The Old Phuket Hotel in Karon as two couples. We stayed there from the 31/05 - 12/06, what a stunning hotel with an incredible ambiance, divine breakfast's to suite all tastes, rooms are clean. We were fortunate in having rooms next to one another in the old section which was great as out rooms had a garden set outside in the gardens which was an incredible way to end the day with a night cap. We had an outside shower which was stunning as well as an outside jacuzzi. Our rooms 131 and 132 were perfectly situated close to the exit gate leading to the avenue of eateries, shop etc and to Karon Beach. The way our rooms were situated felt as if we were in a village, not on top of others.....just perfect. If there is one thing that I would have to say to the hotel is that the cupboards are not big enough, limited shelving for flat packing and only 4 hangers.
The eatery in the road way that leads from the hotel that I can highly recommend is Bai Toey, their Massaman is to die for and to end the meal with their Banana Fritters is a bonus! This establishment is our absolute Favourite for good food, good service! GREAT RESTAURANT.
Other eateries that we found to be really good are the following:
Two Chefs in Karon( every trip I go to x3 I make sure I go there), Wine Collection in Kata ( their European selection I recommend as well as their prawn starter which you get 8 for 90bht) Kampong Kata Hill is a Thai and Seafood Restaurant that I can recommend for ambiance and food - stunning finishes make this restaurant special. OTHER GOOD RESTAURANTS.
Hire your motor bike from the Butterfly I.T.Services as they have a box at the back of the bike which allows one to keep parcels in and bags and of course the beach towels. If you hire the bikes it is 300bht per day but take it out for a couple of days and you can get it at 250bht a day. RECOMMEND THIS BIKE HIRE.
A beach that I have to recommend is Tritrang Beach close to Patong, that is tranquil, clean and no hawkers. Great restaurant there which allows one to make a full days enjoyment. The sea here is gentle with little waves! Love love this beach. STUNNING BEACH.
The Karon and Kata Beaches I do not recommend due to the litter, washed up dirt. However if you like the waves and can overlook the filth then these are the beaches for you although one has to be aware of the rip tides.
At Kata Beach if you want to see an incredible sight take a walk along the beach towards the lagoon to see the what I call "crab sand art" ABSOLUTELY Incredible. A must See!!!!!!
For incredible Pearls go to Rawai as this is where you get really good quality and good prices.
If you enjoy really good coffee there are two places to go to, Andaman Coffee Shop in Karon and Kata with a divine slice of White Chocolate Oreo Cheese Cake- simply the best! As well as Star Bucks in Patong. INCREDIBLE COFFEE
The Big Buddha is a treat to vist, the sheer glory of this is incredible, you can also write on a marble tile a message of which they will plaster onto the Buddha that is still under construction with the message placed facing in, this is my third time I have done a tile. A MUST.
Phuket is an amazing place to visite with gentle honest people.
