I stayed in this excellent mid-sized resort hotel for 7 nights in low season (early June), and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. My room (one of the panoramic rooms with a view over the verdant bay and the - distant- ocean) was very spacious, meticulously clean, well equipped, tastefully decorated and had a charm to it that one would normally expect from smaller boutique hotels. The other hotel amenities (pools, restaurant, bar, fitness, spa) were also of very high quality. Set against the slope of a lush hill, the whole place had a zen ambience which I appreciated a lot (though the fact that children under 12 are not allowed may have contributed to this). The staff were extremely friendly, skilled and helpful (though with the exception of one or two members, their knowledge of English was rather limited, occasionally leading to misunderstandings but never to the extent to create serious communication breakdowns. And then, this is all part of the traveling abroad experience). The massages in the spa and dinner in the restaurant are more expensive than in nearby Karon but they are of higher quality.
The only quibbl I have - and it is no more than a quibble- is that the buffet breakfast lacked a little in variety (esp. of bread and fresh fruit), which may be annoying if you are staying for longer periods. My recommendation is to tell the staff if you crave for something else. When after a few days I asked the waiter if it was possible to have some fresh mango for breakfast in addition to the usual pineapple, papaya and water melon, I was served a sliced juicy mango every morning at my table for the rest of my stay (much to the envy of some of the other guests).
Some other things that you should bear in mind when choosing this hotel: it is a 10 minute walk from Karon Beach (though there are regular shuttles) and being set against the slope of a hill, there are quite some stairs to be climbed from the entrance to the rooms, pools and restaurant, which in the scorching heat can be quite a strain if you are not in shape (though again, shuttle service is available to drive you to and from your room). And again, young children are not allowed so this is not the right hotel for young families.
Again, I very much appreciated this place and will probably return here when back in Phuket.
