We stayed in this hotel last year and booked it thru latestays.com
The pictures shown on the hotel site misled us in thinking that this is located on the beach but on reaching there we found that it located one street away from a very public beach.
Though we had made the payment for our stay in advance but when we landed there, hotel has no information about us and the reservation details
It tool more than an hour to sort this out and they gave us a room after that
Hotel was undergoing renovation, which was not disclosed on its website when we booked it, there was so much of noise all around, the room was not any good
The only consolation was that there were not too many guests, so we enjoyed most of the facilities like swimming pool etc exclusively
I have no idea if it had become better after renovation, but I would not like to stay there again

Sawadee Ka

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments, as we highly value any feedback from our guests.

Firstly, I am sorry that you feel the pictures on our website were misleading with regards to the resorts proximity to the beach. Our homepage does state that our resort is “Just a short walk from the beautiful shores of Karon Beach “and indeed all of the resorts along Karon beach are separated by this single road.

Please accept our apologies for the difficult check-in you experienced. The vast majority of our check-ins run smoothly and swiftly, but I thank you for your feedback and this will be noted as we strive to improve procedures and standards of service at our resort.

We have been running very high occupancy at our resort, which unfortunately makes renovations unavoidable during our quieter periods. We always try to limit the disturbance to our hotel guests and we can only apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I am glad that you could enjoy the exclusivity of the swimming pools, they are a highlight and we have recently opened a new pool here so now there is even more choice.

Best regards and thanks again for your feedback,

Beautiful grounds and great service with a smile.Perfect for a family as you are not stuck in a small hotel room with no where for the children to run.The food was great, breakfast was amazing. You do however have to take a taxi into town so it does continually cost money, that is the downside to staying here. The food and drinks you pay for are very expensive and will roll your bank account and don't buy anything from the shops there as they are are total rip off!! Great place to stay if you don't buy much on the grounds but if you don't care about money then go for it and enjoy yourself. The rooms are nice, there were a few problems with the water and toilet, but we are not in a wealthy country like Australia, in -fact that's why I wondered why things were so over priced? I could buy cheaper in Australia, so we did not buy much. Thailand is not on my list of countries to visit again, was not really impressed as we were hassled the whole time to buy things and it was very annoying, we couldn't wait to get home. Oh the swimming pool is amazing!

I was very happy with my ten nights at the Thavorn Palm. We had many small problems, but considering the price (less than USD 50 per night for an upgraded room) I'm happy to overlook these. The gardens are absolutely beautiful. Unbelieveably, there is a real orchid garden: a bit of old Asia that no one would ever build into a hotel today. The grounds are meticulously maintained. There are birds and frogs but remarkably few bugs. The pools are nice. We liked it.

First, the downsides:

1) The staff don't *really* speak English. They can manage to answer standard questions ("Where is the elevator?") but when faced with an unfamiliar question, they struggle.

2) The bathrooms are old. They are NOT dirty, as some have reported, but they clearly have not been updated since the hotel was built. Given the salty oceanside environment, this means a bit of rust. Despite looking carefully, however, we didn't see a single spot of mold.

3) The hotel is a 15-minute walk to the main business districts in Karon (north) and Kata (south), though there are several restaurants on-site and (contrary to some reports here) there are many cheap Thai restaurants immediately outside the hotel gates.

4) The level of service is very uneven. Sometimes clean towels come, sometimes not. But if you ask for them, you always get them, with a smile.

5) Note that, contrary to the claims made on the website, the hotel does NOT have a tennis court. Apparently it once did, but it doesn't anymore. I don't think there's any intentional deception; my impression was that no one at the hotel had any idea how to update the website.

On the upside:

1) The staff are super-friendly and really do try hard to please.

2) Everything is spotlessly clean (if you know the difference between "old" and "dirty").

3) If you have children they will find endless old-fashioned entertainment exploring the (walled) grounds. It's a kids' paradise. There are five pools (all shallow), lots of mysterious and exotic-looking stairs, nooks, and crannies, and many watchful staff all around. I can imagine endless games of pirates, hide-and-seek, etc. And at night they can try to catch the frogs!

4) If you'd like to have custom clothes made, the onsite tailor is pleasant, polite, and well-priced, and does high-quality work.

5) The hotel is literally across the street from the beach. Very few hotels in Phuket are actually on the beach (even the Hilton and Club Med aren't). With the Thavorn Palm, you just walk across the street (there's even a crossing guard) and you're there.

In short, it's not the Hilton, but in my view the savings more than made up for the minor shortcomings of the hotel. The Hilton is right next door, and five times as expensive. If you are a picky American who will get flustered and upset if you come back to your room to find that the sheets haven't been changed (like most of my friends and family), pay the extra $200 a night for a luxury hotel. If you can accept that you're in the tropics here (for example, there were bees caught in the honeypot at the open-air breakfast buffet), you'll be very happy with the hotel and its price. Overall . . . recommended.

We are from Australia and stayed at Thavorn Palm Beach Resort for 12 nights with our 3 year old daughter. We found the staff to be exceptional and the facilities of the resort were relative to the star rating. My daughter had a terrific time in both pools. Our favourite part was breakfast, huge variety and fresh everyday. We helped celebrate the hotels 50th anniversary and yes some parts do show its age, but who doesn't at 50!!! The delightful staff along with the excellent location far exceed the little tiredness. We had a wonderful stay thank you to everyone.

Arrived here from travelling from Koh Samui via Khao Sok. Was greated in real nice lobby area by staff with drinks and hot towels. The hotel looked amazing and we were hugely impressed as we did not expect it to be like this. We did read some bad reviews and decided to book based on the good reviews and the pictures etc

We booked a deluxe room and only stayed 3 nights before flying to Bangkok for Phuket airport.

We checked in and were shown to our room. We were very excited. However after a lengthy walk the interior of the hotel started to look a bit dirty, needing paint ( as many reviews have stated). We entered our room and was impressed. Very large, clean looking with nice view of pool and sea.

Then however, we looked in our bathroom and was confused. The whole room was great apart from the bathroom which was pretty bad to be honest. The shower was pathetic with hardly any water coming out when up full and the bath looked very very old and dirty. Anyway, stuff like that doesn't make or break a holiday so we got on with enjoying our time in Phuket.

One pool was out of order and there was work noise each day but this was expected as I had asked the hotel previously about it. There was a lot of work going on in and around the hotel. The room next door had someone drilling and banging in it the one morning, but I guess this is the time of year when they do the work ready for the busy seasons.

The hotel gardens and grounds were amazing, however again the whole of the outside walls of the hotel seriously needed a new coat of white paint. It was easy however to take photos avoiding this etc and again it didnt really matter.

If you like frogs then this is the place to come as the hotel has lots of little pools with lilly pads which come alive at night with frogs and toads. Also lots of lizards and birds to look at which was nice.

On our first night we went out looking for somewhere to get some nice Thai food. Other than for breakfast we didnt eat in the hotel as the selection wasnt great for what we wanted (Thai food) and it was expensive. We turned left out the back of the hotel and found some shops and places to eat. However the main area of Karon beach was the other way as we found out the following night. The hotel was not far but about 15min walk to this main area.

The beach opposite has sun beds for hire, not part of the hotel so we didnt use them. We did have fun in the waves dispite the red flag warnings but I think as long as you stay close in it was no problem. You can see however how dangerous the sea is here at Karon beach and I would avoid trying to swim out or go in alone.

Breakfast in the hotel had a huge selection. Outside tables were prone to having a myner bird come and try and steal your food and some people were even feeding them, which wasnt a great plan. But we only ate toast and jam and cerial, but the selection was good as i said.

Last point. The whole hotel is very Russian friendly. I believe the hotel manager is Russian. Anything written was in English and Russian and they even have a Russian chef cooking Russian food. In fact this was true for the Karon area and one restaurant we looked in only had menus in German, Thai and Russian. Again, this is just info and it didn't have any negative inpact on our time at this hotel.

So to sum up......its a great hotel in many ways with just the odd dirty looking corner.

We arrived at this hotel late in the evening after a long international and connecting flight. We were greeted with a drink and warm flannels which was lovely. Check-in was swift and very professional. The room was lovely and spacious. At breakfast time there was always plenty of choice to suit all tastes. One of the main pools with the swim up bar was closed when we were there which was a little disappointing but there were plently of sunbeds available near the other pools. The pools were in good condition.
Lots of tours available to book, and also there is a good travel agency just down the road in the main town. There are lots of places to eat outside the hotel.
Would definately recommend.

My wife and I are not fussy travellers. We see a hotel room as just a place to sleep, so we chose this hotel based on price (which was very good). However the 2 things we value most, a good bed and a hot shower were non existant. The shower was only ever luke warm (never hot) and the beds are incredibly hard as everyone says. Its like placing a blanket on a sheet of timber and trying to sleep on that. The room was spacious but a little outdated, however we did no care about that. Breakfast was also average. They cook everything at once at 6.00am, so if you're not at breakfast by 6.30 everything has gone cold. There are 3 large pools, however one is under renovation until September - October. The other pools are large and good enough for what we wanted. The beach is also very close, you just cross the road and you are there.
The local tuk tuks or taxis charge 300 Baht to go into Patong. Hence the money we saved on accommodation was lost on taxis. We got around everywhere in Bangkok for 100 Baht so we found 300 to be expensive. The hotel does offer a shuttle service but it only leaves at 11.30 and 4.30 each day and can only take 12 people. For a massive hotel this was really bad as you had to book a spot the day prior to try and get on.
Over all I would say not to stay here. We thought it would have been beter to stay in Patong near the Holiday Inn once in Puket. It seemed to be in a great location and away from all the bars, but right on the beach.
Hope this review helps others like previous reviews have helped us.
Cheers (Australia)
