“Great, but showing some age”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2014

I've stayed at the Hilton Arcadia 3 times over the last 13 years. Twice before it received it's Hilton branding, and more recently in April 2014. I took my fiance on a ten day holiday to Thailand and, trusting my past experiences with this hotel, booked it for the full duration of our stay. It is roughly 1 hour away from the airport but offers a private taxi service (in my case it was free) from and to the airport. Once you arrive, you are taken to the Welcome reception where you are then taken to the main reception of the hotel through the enormous and plush gardens, past their lakes and spa and a very short tour of the hotel from the transport vehicle. Initially these vehicles were extended golf-carts but are now trucks with seating etc which are quite comfortable and atmospheric, but make too much noise. The Staff was fantastic and very helpful in everything, from checking us in, offering us free refreshments at check in and check out, finding space at the pools. Everything. This is why I come to Thailand. People here are genuinely happy, kind and very ready to help. On our previous trips we had stayed in sea-view rooms, whereas on our most recent trip we stayed in a garden view. Whichever you choose, you will not be disappointed with the view. The gardens are gorgeous. They are thick and plush and blooming and are worth taking an hour or more to explore. This hotel is the definition of resort. You really feel like you are very far from civilization, while also feeling welcome and at home.
The room we were given was above the road which is used by their transport vehicle to get people from the main reception to the welcome reception. If you are planning on staying here avoid this room, simply because you may find that the noise of the vehicle may be bothersome, although for us it was mostly unnoticeable. The room we had was also not in the best condition, something I attribute to the hotel no being over 10 years old. Little things like some rust in the shower, or the shower door being a little difficult to open at times, and some of the furniture being scuffed or mildly broken. Not major issues, but their attention to detail seems to be faltering. There are 3 pools, 2 of which are multi levelled making it 5 pools, a souvenir shop, jewellery shop and 4 dedicated restaurants. Breakfast is served at the Italian restaurant, overlooking their vast lake and is a beautiful experience. The breakfast buffet was unfortunately not as good as I remember but was satisfactory. The Thai Thai restaurant at the beach side area of the hotel was one of the best I have visited. It was more expensive than others we visited, but a very worthwhile meal. The food was fantastic and traditionally Thai, the decoration was appropriate and the staff was excellent. I wish that it was on tripadvisor so I could give it the review and rating it deserves, 5 stars. Room service was excellent and the food they delivered was also very high standard. My only issue with their room service was that once we had finished with our meal our plates and tray were left outside our door for 2 days. This was genuinely unfortunate as the rest of the experience was excellent. The hotel is also in a more quiet area of Phuket, however most things are within walking distance. The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful, though the sand is not very clean, and you can even get a cheap 1 hour massage on the beach for about 400 baht, and there are two taxi services right outside to take you wherever you need to go. Although this hotel is now starting to show it's age, it is an excellent place to stay. You would probably also be receiving a bargain because of it's age, but make no mistake, this is luxurious and beautiful.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are a good choice and a bargain. Try and avoid rooms on the hotels private road. R...

Dear guest

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough and comprehensive review of your experience. I was delighted to learn that you still had a great experience after all these years since your last visit and particularly happy to read of your satisfaction with the staff. Making our guests feel welcome is a core part of what we hope to deliver.

The hotel, as the gap between your visit highlights, was built some time ago and this does of course leave some areas showing some signs of wear and tear. I am however very happy to say that we have a rolling refurbishment program in place to tackle these areas and this project commenced over a year ago and will continue into the future until everything is addressed.

I hope that it will not be quite so many years in between your next visit to the hotel.

Kind regards

David

Amazing location designed to ensure that you rest, the staff is helpful and friendly and care has been taken to ensure a good spread of languages is availAble for the guests. The room I was in wax well appointed, though climate control was fiddly and had to be reset every day. This made sleeping a tad challenging if you forgot to set a preferred temperature.

The restaurants are amazing, though pricey, unless you come from the USA or Western Europe.

The only challenge was a small snake in the lift during my stay, however this was dealt with instantly and did not detract for long.

Will return to this paradise.

Room Tip: Pick an ocean view room, if in Adaman B then 7th floor and above as you have another block in the wa...

Dear guest

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay.

I was very happy to hear that you had a good stay with us apart from your unfortunate incident with a baby snake. Happily incidences such as yours are a very rare occurrence indeed thought given that we are surrounded by 75 acres of lush tropical gardens there is always a slight possibililty of it happening.

I am glad that my staff responded promptly and professionally to the situation and resolved it to your satisfaction.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the, I hope, not too distant future.

Kind regards

David

If you have been in Phuket before and you need a break from work and just relax, that is the place. Beach cross the road, pool everywhere some of them very very quiet with waterfall!! Nice cocktail and happy hour. The staff very helpfull, smilling and speak good english too. To go to Patong (15min), you just need to tell them and the book the taxi or the shutle or you have some shop around if you forget something.

Our second time staying at this hotel/resort. Perfectly located, this hotel is huge!!! But you would never know how busy it as as it is so spacious. Fantastic pools, never left looking for loung chairs. Breakfast is brilliant, so many choices!!! Very attentive staff, the house keeping staff were lovely. We had the buffet dinner at sails twice, which was great. Kids club was good, lots if crafty activities going on daily and plenty if entertainment. Once we arrive at the hotel, we go into tiwn and do a small grocery shop and stick up on fruit, drinks and snacks for lunch as eating from cafe cino and pool side daily is very expensive, almost $10 AU for a small sandwich, $6/7 for a bowl of chips, and if you traveling with small children, leaving the hotel everyday to go out and get lunch can be a hassle do you end up ordering lots of hotel good that is a tad $$! We would stock up on mangos, muisly bars, biscuits, pot noodles ect and just go up to our room most days for lunch. The only problem I found was the singers in the lobby every night, they are so loud! We could hear them up on level 5. This time we stayed in a garden delux PLUS room, which is one if the newer Renovated rooms, was nice to see a newer bathroom as the old original rooms had a horrible old bathroom, something you would not expect to find in a 4-5 star hotel. The room was very good, huge bed, great tv, desk, day bed on the balcony, the air Von was ok, but could probably do with a looking at. Overall this is a brilliant hotel, highly recvomend it, such a wonderful family place, we will be back next year!

The setting of this hotel was beautiful. It's was very peaceful and relaxing. The gardens are well maintained and the pool areas were never to noisy or busy. The breakfast was amazing and the staff very friendly especially Utai. The rooms were spacious and very clean and the location was ideal for the beach and restaurants and shopping. We had a fantastic fortnight and would definitely return.

Fine place on a fine beach. Hilton has spacious rooms with thoughtful layout. We had a great view of sunset over the Andaman Sea. Our room had a step which was lighted at night. We had a big glass desk which was useful. When the staff sensed that I had trouble using an optical mouse on glass, they left me a mousepad.
Several restaurants on site offer a variety of foods. If Sails restaurant has a buffet, it means a tour bus is dining. Otherwise, you can order off the menu. Don't miss the little ice cream place on the ground floor.
The beach is all public and filled with deckchair and parachute ride vendors. A crossing guard will across the road. Karon Beach is beautiful and sandy. There are plenty of freshwater pools at the hotel.
The hotel is about an hour south of the airport. I strongly recommend that you e-mail the hotel to arrange a car for transport both ways. Price is comparable to a taxi, and the hotel car comes with water bottles and a cool towel. You meet your driver outside the building on the left.

Maybe it was the 3 conventions staying here at the same time but no one seemed to care about service or information. The beach is across a street and full of trash. Realize it's public but is anyone taking care of the part in front of the hotel? Also, no indication if the chairs belong to the hotel or to the local tout requesting money to use them. No towels at beach and no signs at hotl to say bring your own. Chairs on beach are old and dirty. No complimentary water at pool and no drink service. although billed as a family friendly resort, the bad live music at the central bar blared until midnight so those nice beach view rooms you paid extra for? Forget it. Staff is pleasant but the lack of information means you have to hunt them down for anything. Not worth the money.
