I cannot believe that no one on previous reviews mentioned this, but WARNING !!!!!!! , building work ! , this resort is under refurb quite extensively.

It gets worse, Karon beach which is reviewed on lots of sites as miles of beautiful sandy beach is in fact littered terribly with rubbish and debris , above and beyond a bit of tourist litter, enough to spoil any romantic stroll, and it is quite a stroll, 25 minutes to centre of karon , at night its not a route you can take due to tides.

It gets worse, the northern tip of the beach now has a wacking big water/sewage outlet pipe from the BUILDING WORKS , complete with 2x swing arm cranes that dominate this aspect of the beach , this is the area closest to Centara Villas. As the main selling point of CENTARA villas is a quiet get away for romance away from the bustle of Patong ,there is currently nothing to go for.

I could not reccomend anyone staying there at this time, give a wide birth for at least 12 months from now.

Karon is a 2nd rate Patong , ie southport to blackpool , it is not a quiet chilled out trendy village with aspects of real thai life.

staff at resort friendly but not quite as profficient as other places at which i have stayed. Tuk tuks essential to get anywhere, even to buy a bottle of water. 300 baht each way - its a dear bottle of water!

We stayed at the Centara Villas for three nights, having previously visited Central Samui Village and found this hotel to be even nicer! The tropical bathrooms were amazing and awaking each morning to the sound of cicadas and unusual birdsong was lovely. Yes, there are lots of steps down to the beach, but it is well worth the effort as there is a lovely little restaurant called 'Kais' where the food is excellent and the owners very friendly. The walk back to the hotel room at night was lit by fireflies glowing which somehow made climbing up the steps more than worthwhile! I would thoroughly recommend it.

I stayed here with my daughter and her boyfriend in late April. for two weeks. We were greeted after our long journey with refreshing coconut milk and were quickly shown to our rooms. These were in wooden cottages amongst the treetops and were absolutely delightful. Hugh beds, wonderful soft pillows in abundance, and bathrooms open to the sky.

This is NOT a big chain hotel - if you want 24 hour bars and entertainment go somewhere else. What you get here is very special and very personalised. The location is ideal ( the quiet end of Karon Beach but withing five minutes drive of Patong ) The beach is amazing and unspoilt and although there are a lot of steps the grounds are beautifully maintained and very private. The staff - particularily in the bar were brilliant and the chef cooked fish we had caught ourselves for no extra charge.

Beware there ARE a lot of mozzies so go prepared for that - The spa was very good but would have been even better for some mosquito coils - we couyldn't really relax because we were being bitten!!

We loved our stay here and would certainly recommend it to friends and family and would definately return if we went back to Phuket.

Booked to stay here for 4 nights over Songkran as we wanted to be central to Karon Resort but we were a good 30min walk away on a busy main road so had to get taxi every night which cost 200baht regardless. Lots of steps within the grounds as its set in the hillside overlooking Karon Beach and the views and sunlight are blocked by the abundance of tree branches but was reasonable enough for what we needed. 2 pools, very clean and pleasant. Beach can be accessed via hillside walkway but only during the day, nightime is too steep and dark, not ideal for anyone with walking difficulties. Rooms are standard enough, clean, pleasant with really large bathrooms. Staff are friendly and helpful and breakfast was a good mix of west and thai dishes. All in all, if you don't want too rustic and can bare the hundreds of steps, it's a good enough hotel.

We stayed at the Centara villa for 10 nights and we loved it. Private Villa's in a rainforest environment made for a peaceful , relaxing escape. I have stayed in patong before and much prefer the quietness of Karon Beach. This resort is on a hill and has many steps leading to the pool or upto the lobby/restaraunt area, however I am far from fit and I managed it fine. Although somedays because it was so hot i called for the mini car to pick us up to take us around the resort which was no problem. The pools were not huge (like other resorts in phuket) but we found the size of them to be perfect and could pretty much always get a lounge. The beach was a 5 minute walk and if you want a cheap lunch go to Kai's restaraunt on the beach.
We had dinner at the cliff restaraunt a few times and enjoyed it alot. My boyfriend is a chef and he couldnt fault the quality of the food. We attended the seafood bbq night which was fantastic. I found the staff to be very helpful and much obliging. One of us had a slight accident (which we thought nothing of) however the staff were so wonderful of it and gave us a nice bunch of flowers and a letter of apology and a free voucher for dinner and drinks one night.
It is quite easy to get a tuk tuk, taxi or use the resorts free shuttle bus service to get to patong beach, or karon beach. I found Karon Beach cheaper for shopping and also not as crowded as Patong. It was much more civilised.
I would stay here again in a flash.

We stayed in Centara Villas for 2 weeks and found it to be an amazing holiday destination. Having spent 1 week in Patong (which is noisy, smelly and very commercialized) we found Centara to be a breath of fresh air in every sense.

What makes the place unique is definitely the design of the holiday complex. The complex is built on the coast and over looks Karon beach and the Andaman Sea and offers some fantastic views (particularly at sunset from the Cliff Restaurant). The grounds are planted with tropical trees and plants that ensure that this hotel is not a blight on the beautiful landscape but instead perfectly integrates itself with the surrounding environment. It certainly struck me as a very eco friendly development.

As previously mentioned the complex is built on a hill so for the unfit or elderly this may be a problem. The hotel does offer a free internal tuk tuk service to shuttle you from the hotel lobby to your room (and vice versa). The hills didn't bother us at all.

Karon beach is approximately 5 minutes walk from the hotel and it's a beautiful beach. Unlike Patong beach you are hassled as much by hawkers selling their wares. There are a few sellers of wallets and bandanas but once you say "No thank you" they politely leave you alone. We didn't have breakfast included in our stay so we dined on the beach each morning at Kai's Restaurant. Kai's offer really cheap breakfast and lunch options. I recommend the banana and pineapple shakes (1 euro each) and the club sandwiches (2 euro).

Centara have a happy hour every evening serving delicious cocktails at half price (approx 2 euro each) at the Cliff Restaurant/Bar. The gastranomic highlight for us was the Seafood BBQ/Extravaganza which is held once per week. It's got the best selection of salads, fresh seafood and cooked meats I've come across. It cost approx 14 euro per person and it's all you can eat.

We found the accommodation to be good. As other posters mentioned the bathrooms need an upgrade. However the rooms were always exceptionally clean. We really enjoyed having our balcony/patio area where we could relax in the evening time and enjoy a few cold beers. With a nice view of the sea and beach it was a great way to spend the end of the day.

Centara have a great attention to detail. On returning from the beach one day I found a nice bottle of champagne on ice and fruit selection waiting for me. I thought it was a nice touch and it certainly impressed both me and my girlfriend.

I certainly recommend this place for other young couples as a place to relax and get away from it all.

Centara Villas Phuket exceeded all expectations and I would return to Phuket purely to stay there again!!

Our flight was delayed by 6 hours so we arrived in the middle of the night to be greeted with cool refreshing drinks and face towels; friendly smiles, very speedy check in and coupons for a FREE massage the next day!

The Villa- As soon as we walked into our bungalow we knew we'd made the right choice. It's a very spacious room with beautiful decor, fitted with a king size bed with a mosquito net over it; 2 chairs, TV, wardrobe, mini fridge, and desk. Each bungalow has their own balcony fitted with two daybeds and an umbrella- perfect for sipping cocktails in the afternoon sun!! The also feel very private and secluded from other bungalows due to the 'jungle' type gardens. My only two complaints (which are minimal)- 1. The bed mattresses are quite firm/hard. 2. The bathrooms could do with an update BUT ours was always spotless and very clean.

The Centara Spa- We checked out the spa with our free massage and were so impressed we returned again twice! You are massaged in an open room that is located at the far end of the hotel, looking across the ocean (Please see my photo). As you are massaged you can hear the sounds of the ocean which is very relaxing and the room is protected by plants so don't worry about other guests being able to see you. I didn't like the idea of the cheaper massages on the beach where you are massaged in front of everyone else and have the ladies conversation with each other constantly going throughout your massage- not my idea of relaxing. That's why I am more than prepared to pay a bit more to have only the sounds of the ocean, with good quality oils. It is a truly refreshing and relaxing experience.

The Grounds and Pool Area- I love nature and thus loved the tropical jungle feel of the grounds. Yes it's built on a very steep hill, but we never once bothered to call for the buggy to pick us up. It wouldn't be appropriate for children, the elderly or those with a disability. We didn't have any problems with mosquitos, ants or other bugs at all. There are two pools on two different levels joined by a waterfall. There are daybeds around the pools as well as on a grassed area overlooking the ocean. We also enjoyed the hammocks for reading a book in the afternoon.

The Restaurant and Cocktail Bar- The free breakfast was fantastic with all the choices you could dream of- cereals, cooked breakfast, thai noodles and curries etc etc. And the restaurant is at the highest point looking straight out to the ocean- beautiful view! We took advantage of happy hour cocktails most nights in the cocktail bar located next to the restaurant. We didn't end up eating lunch or dinner at the restaurant (which was a bit pricey) but ordered room service which arrived promptly, was a very large serving and was delicious.

Location- We loved the location. It is a >5min tuktuk ride into Karon and Phuket, costing $250-$300Baht. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday don't stay in the main parts of town- its dirty, smells and is very noisy! Here you are far enough away from the hussle and bussle, but close enough to easily access all the nightlife and shopping. They also have a FREE transfer service that runs twice a day to Karon and Phuket.

The staff- I can not sing their praises enough!! They were always so kind, cheerful and helpful. Once when we couldn't get a tuktuk, they organised a cab for the same price! They helped us organise all our tours- we did our research and they didn't add any extra charges onto the price and they even gave us a massive discount because we booked 3 tours through them!! A true sign of their fantastic service was when we were leaving- At another hotel we stayed at (Buri Rasa, Koh Samui) once the checkout bill was paid for their service was terrible!! BUT at Centara Villas they continued their impeccable service offering us free drinks and turning on the fans for us whilst we waited for our transfer. The staff are truly an asset to the Centara Villas experience.
