“Lovely!”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

My husband, 2year old daughter and i stayed here ten nights and this place really is a hidden gem. Secluded and quiet away from the hustle and bustle which was perfect for us as we wanted a quiet break away. Upon arrival we were received a very warm welcome from the reception staff and were given some pretty coconut drinks to cool off with while we were checked in. We were driven to our villa via tuktuk and i must say througout our stay every member of staff we encountered treated us like royalty, especially the ladies in reception who became very fond of our little one and would regularly play with her when we were in the reception area. Our room was large with a very generously sized bed and gorgeous bathroom. The furniture wasnt modern but it was absolutely perfect. The buffet in the evening wasnt great for us as we needed a veggie option as the meat wasnt halal but may not be an issue for others. Breakfast was decent and we were waited on hand and foot no matter how busy it got. We regularly got the shuttle to patong or karon for food-most places we ate were brilliant especially mr thongs in karon- fantastic fish curry and the hut on the beach. Excursions were great and easy to organise- theres really no shortage of things to do here- we spend most of our days by the pool because it was our daughters favourite thing to do! Overall a fantastic trip and would definately recommend.

Dear Sambam, Thank you for your refreshing and candid review of our Resort and it is a satisfying feeling for all of our staff to know the efforts are appreciated by the guests.
The Thai people in general love children and it was not an effort to make your younger one feel at home. We look forward to you returning to visit us and thank you again for taking time to write the review. Yours sincerely, Ross and Staff

Overall this hotel is good, the staff excellent and the setting is stunning. We loved the mornings at breakfast which meant a long start to the day and brilliant views over the bay. The tropical setting is lovely too, and the winding pathways within the hotel complex not too difficult to negotiate, if indeed you are moderately fit. I will say that if you are disabled then this may not be the venue for you.

Okay where are the areas for development ?

1. The rooms, yes they are nicely appointed, but they are solwly moving towards some refurbishment surely ? Centara need to address this as they do need some improvement in places. However they do the job with super air con and are cleaned very diligently every day.

2. The pool areas. They are scenic and quiet, however whilst we were there the pool waterfalls were broken most of the time and the pool water stagnant in certain areas. This was only attended to when complaints were made. This was disappointing. In the end we made the walk across the sea paths to the beach and spent some days at the grand beach resoprt about 15 mins away.

3. On that point. The end of the pathway down from the villas to the beach is quite dangerous. I am more than capable as a swimmer, and the rough seas at the foot of the path on two occasions caused some alarming moments. The final day we were there a storm erupted across the beach and bay. Residents were trapped on the steps due to gushing water and one lad was quite badly injured and swept in to the sea. If this was an elderly guest it most certainly would have been fatal. The hotel needs to assess the foot of this pathway properly and stop making excuses - the steps to the beach, at times are very dangerous, and on other days when the weather is clement no problem. But the hotel should not be gambling here, you have been warned ! They have an obligation, please address this before it is too late.

4. The service at the hotel is good in places ( individuals especially the golf cart drivers ) but overall from a customer service point of view, pretty poor. The Thai people are hard working and gracious, but they do not and never have really grasped what a dining experience is. On one night we ordered the expensive ( and I mean very expensive ) ala carte' and all three courses turned up at once. It was not a good expereince. The BBQ evenings were a wash out due to the rain and the roof not being able to take the amount of water, tables covered in water and everyone left by 8.30pm. Not too many happy guests that night, nor for the next event either. These events rely on good weather, if it rains, go elsewhere. Also whilst we were there the top restauarant was closed leaving us to use the one hotel restaurant, which because of its exclusivity found a meal costing up to a hundred pounds for two with wine for the night. The wine is very expensive, up to £ 40 a bottle for an average white. The hotel finds it difficult to put on what they avdertise, they set out with good intentions and fail miserabely at times.
The exchange rate was 42 Bhat per pound at the time we visited, some people confusing the cost and thinking 250 Bhat was £2.50. Not good. THINK people. The staff here do need training in attentive service and customer service, it can get very frustrating when your food is whisked away half way through eating or doesnt turn up at all. They really dont understand what a relaxing evening dining is all about. Or indeed as most people found couldnt even begin to try and understand - You will of course have your meal, sometimes very cold. Remember Thai people eat quickly and dont dwell on their food at all.

The solution is get a ten quid taxi ( return ) in to Karon beach where there are many restaurants. But this can add up financially too.

This is a lovely setting with a poor reception area, but lovely people who just want to make sure you have a great time, however they really, really do need training in places to deliver the service they want to. I could see their frustratuion at times. I do sympathise, but in the catering areas, especially table waiting they are so, so poor at times. And the cost is extortionate.

Any trip to Thailand is pure magic, and this hotel has many positives, but it also has many developing ares too, now Centara - should develop them and be what you really want to be and dont rely on Trip Advisor to dust over the many cracks.

If you want to convey yourself as the leading brand and have lots of notices up about Trip Advisor hotel of the year etc ... Dont rest on your larels and get lazy because the work is never done, improvement is needed all round. If you delivered it last year, then deliver it every year.

6/10 punk rock points.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room, and dont upgarde at the hotel, the rooms with spa's are not as advertise...

Dear OiPunk, Thank you for taking your holiday time to write such an objective review of our Resort. We, as you noted, have been upgrading our rooms and Villas to meet ever demanding standards and although we feel progress has been rapid it appears to always take longer than expected, however, we are addressing the air conditioning systems currently. We are constantly checking the water chemical balance two or three times daily and with the torrid daily heat sometimes it gets ahead of the staff to vacuum both pools we have passed on this comment to the Chief Engineer for examinations. With our restaurant staff we try to hire local and hill tribe people to allow them a chance of employment and although we constantly train as to Western habits it needs constant refreshing and I have passed this on to our assistant F&B manager. The e Cliff restaurant has an open air concept in order to allow our guests to enjoy the views of the island, however when it is inclement weather, we are sometimes forced to close down due to the volume of rains as you can imagine. We have installed a new awning system and hopefully this will prevent close down of the open air Cliff at times. We appreciate your positive reflection about the location and the staff attitude and hope to see you again on your next trip to Centara Villas. Yours sincerely, Ross and the Staff.

If you are looking for a romantic setting in Phuket – you can’t do much better than Centara Villas. The hotel is set beautifully on the hillside of Karon bay. As you would expect in Thailand the staff are courteous and discreet. There are stunning views of the Andaman Sea and nearby Karon Beach. The villas are nestled into the Karon Bay hillside and access is by the pathways the criss cross the hill. A certain level of fitness is recommended to walk the paths and climb the stairs necessary to access the hotel reception and main restaurant (breakfast buffet and dinner). Wi-Fi is only available at reception. Taxi to nearby Karon is 300 baht and to Patong 400 baht. Tuk Tuk prices slightly cheaper. If it's a private, scenic hideaway you are looking for – this hotel is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Some villas are located on main walkways and are less private. If this is an issue check with the ho...

After a slow taxi ride to Centara in Karon, we finished the welcome drink and were told we were at the wrong Centara! 10 mins by car later we were at the beautiful Centara Villas, at the top of the hill and one of three Centara resorts in Karon - so make sure you know which one is yours. The views from the rooms are stunning, the pools, bar and cafes are great, we loved the included breakfasts in the restaurant and there is wifi access here so it's a slow start to the day. A 10 min walk along a winding beach track to the beach and Karon town and walking to and from our room was the only strenuous thing we did. You can't help but be relaxed. We would definitely come back here again.

My family and I have just returned from these little secluded villas, we spent 8 nights here and although the scenery is very pretty the resort itself hasn't much to offer.
The lobby area is very plain and simple and is usually crowded with people as this is where the wi-fi connection is at its best.
The staff are extremely friendly and only to happy to help and make you feel so welcome
The villas are all spaced out along the hill side, which makes walking up and down them hard work, not ideal for the unfit or families with some children/ prams. You can ring reception for the tuk tuk to pick you up, which was an efficient service and very much needed!
The villas were very plain and simple and in desperate need of updating. The bed linen although changed daily was old, tired looking and sometimes threadbare as we're the towels in the bathroom. The toilet seat didnt fit the pan proberly and the shower areas were had grubby grouting and needed descaling. We had villas 122/123 and although we asked for ocean view this was
obscured by very large trees but you had a lovely view of karon beach.
The restuarants offer great food, with good service but they closed to early. The Bayside closed by 5pm and The Cliff by 11 pm. So after 11 pm you couldn't get a drink or anything to eat. Room service stopped at 11 pm as well.
You can use the facilities of the sister hotel, which is the Centra Grand this is better suited for families and is situated on the beach. To access from the villas you have to walk a woody area, which is full of wildlife and gnats, ( make sure you take a maximum strength repellant or buy it out there)and have to tackle some steep stairs to get to the beach.
Although our stay was comfortable we would not go back to this hotel.

My husband and I just returned from a 10 night stay at Centara Villas Phuket from June 17th - July 2nd. The hotel and the grounds are very lush and gorgeous, think "Jungle". We both recommend a little bottle of "Sketolene" from the mart to block the mosquitos as we received a few bites here and there.

Hotel:
The hotel has a very scenic location. It has a beautiful overlook of the water and the view from the top pool is spectacular. There were a lot of stairs to traverse the property but we consider ourselves pretty active and it posed no problem. We kind of liked the extra exercise. The walk to the beach from our resort was nice but we found there was a bit of garbage right as you got onto the beach, not the hotels fault of course. Our ocean room view was gorgeous and we often sat on the deck and enjoyed the view. The air conditioning worked really well in the room keeping you nice and cool. It worked so well we actually had to turn it down because we were too cold one night. The staff were all very lovely and friendly to us. English of course isn't the first language of most people but they do try very hard and we had no problems communicating any of our needs. Our only complaint is that our room was not turned over until rather late into the afternoon and evening (3:30/4:00) which made it difficult for us to "siesta" before dinner, but overall it wasn't a huge deal. The management was very nice and accommodating and made us feel very welcome. The cool face towels before we left for our flight was most welcome!

Pool:
Two pools at the resort were both very nice. Never had a problem getting chairs with good sun or shade and spent most of our time at the bottom pool soaking up the sun. Waterfall in the bottom pool was great. Couple ants pestered us here and there but it was nothing we couldn't handle

Transportation:
The hotel is fairly secluded although it is possible to walk down the beach into Karon. The hotel offers free twice daily shuttles into Patong and Karon which definitely made it easy and cost effective to get out. We walked back from Karon through the beach one day and took a tuk tuk for 200 baht the rest of the time. We found this the ideal way to get into town and explore.

Food:
We tried the hotel buffet for breakfast and found it very good but for cost reasons we ate in town or packed a few snacks from the marts to save money on breakfast. Happy hour at the resort was very nice and allowed us to have a few cocktails by the pool which were very tasty. We ate at the Bayview for lunch a few times and found the food pretty good. The best food we had the whole trip was a Shwarma Kart in Patong, outside the beachside restaurant "Place". It is to die for and I would highly recommend seeking this guy out as he seems to be parked there every night at 6:30". Minibar prices were cheaper than home but not as cheap as going into the mart and stocking up on what you need. We went through so much bottled water that we ended up buying 6 at a time from the Bamboo Mart in town for 7baht (20cents) each.

Would highly recommend for couples and adults, perhaps not so much for kids.

Dear Amanda and James,
Thank you for staying with us during your honeymoon and found our hotel is lush and gorgeous as you mentioned. For the mosquitoes is hard for us to get rid of them as green as we are, but we tried our best and we hope that they did not bother you a lot. We are glad that you liked the view form your room. Concerning your comment about walkway to the beach and garbage, we are doing our best to maintain it clean. Nice to hear that our staff was lovely, friendly and you had no problems with communication. Once again, thank you very much for your review and we look forward to welcome you again in the near future. Sincerely Yours, Ross and all staff.
