Grand Sunset Hotel
Ranked #85 of 136 Hotels in Karon
Reviewed September 2, 2012

This hotel is located within a row of buildings running east to west so despite the description you are unlikely to see an impressive sunset set from your hotel room however mix a quick Daiquiri and take the lift to the rooftop pool with it’s spectacular views in every direction and you won’t miss a thing!
The north-side hotel apartments face the rear of another hotel so not much to look at there from your balcony. We asked for an upgrade to an apartment with a bigger balcony which we got and also as a bonus it was on the south-side of the hotel. The view was an expanse of greenery in front, tree clad hills to the left and ocean breakers to the right. The staff call this the “garden view” but I would call it jungle view myself.
We were really pleased with the upgrade and surprised that we were not asked to pay any surcharge for it.
The hotel was built in 2009 so both apartments that we experienced were almost antiseptically clean and fresh. Delightful bathroom. Modern air conditioners in living and sleeping areas, big wide screen TV, (however limited to only 10 channels when we were there and only 1 of these English speaking).
The buffet breakfast, if not included, is 200 baht per person and is well worth it. Both European and Asian features on the buffet which changes daily. There 3 Internet connected laptops set up in the guest area for guest use free of charge.
The reception staff are super-friendly and always helpful.
It’s less than 100 metres from the hotel to the sea and it’s a beautiful beach.
One of our best ever hotel stays. We’ll be back there.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a “garden view” and try to get one of the bigger apartments if you can.

We stayed here for three nights in Karon, before moving north to Surin Beach and overall, very impressed.Booking through hotel.com, we paid $50 AUD per night for a one bedroom apartment with a small balcony (the view is mainly of the alley beside hotel but it is true that you can see some ocean at end of street). Not sure why an earlier review states the rooms are small - I thought quite spacious, and in fact, under utilised, the living room could easily have fit a table and chairs in addiion to the sofa and coffee table.

A few small things - the night we arrived was a public holiday so almost everything was shut, which we didn't realise. We asked reception where we could find a taxi into town and they told us - but didn't explain Karon was basically completely shut down. Normally you can walk out of this hotel, turn right and within 5 minutes be at a taxi station, with lots of stalls and night markets open - not this night, we pretty much stumbled round in the dark! so it would have been nice for the staff to try and warn us. There are also not many channels on the tv, but we werent there to watch TV anyway

That aside - the room was amazing for the price, the staff were very friendly, the roof pool was beautiful. When we were there, of the three times I used the pool, only once were other guests up there so it was very secluded and peaceful. The hotel is onnly one street back from the beach for beah lovers, and an easy 20 minute walk into the twon centre. Quite a few other hotels are along this beach walk down to town and a few markets, but almost no restaurants and bars in their own right, those are all on the main road in Karon. I was very impressed and would recommend to friends.

We stayed for 4 nights. Staff were always friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast had a good selection and changed daily.
Great location close to the beach and not noisy. Close to shops and night life.
We would definately stay here again!

We spent 4 days in Phuket, and we stayed at Grand Sunset. The staff was absolutely wonderful. It was my birthday one of the days, and the staff brought me the most delicious chocolate cake with burning candles which just made my day! The rooftop pool is a perfect place to enjoy the sun, their breakfast is good and the staff will help you with everything. My girlfriend and I both loved it.

The hotel is well located near beautiful Karon Beach which is the best location is the best part of Phuket, but up a very long & drab laneway which was often a drag.
The air-conditioned room was clean well maintained but very small & basic, as was the TV selection. The free WiFi was most welcome. Beach views were minimal but we has a good view of the hinterland. The personal service was attentive, respectful, very helpful and faultless with none of the hard sells evident throughout Phuket. Rooftop pool was good, but the beach is the go here.

Room Tip: Higher floors are good, but all offer the same amenity & aspect. Ensure you get a room on the s...

We stayed in Golden Sunset during off-season, end of May beginning of June. High surf prevented all but wading carefully into the warm waters, with warnings of the riptides. Nevertheless we enjoyed the beautiful beach, and picturesque surf immensely - Karon really does have a gorgeous beach. Back at the hotel, they have a beautiful rooftop pool, warm, clean - a lovely retreat where you can swim or bask in the sun, getting in the swimming you couldn’t do in the ocean as a result of the surf. The hotel and our room were basically immaculate, with only a strange smell in the hall to complain about on certain days. It did not carry over into the room, which was bright, with a nice view of a lovely green area, and even of the beach a short walk away from the small balcony. The room was a very comfortable size, airconditioning was very comfortable - all in all, we were very pleased with our week’s stay, and would recommend Golden Sunset to anyone. The staff were always very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The location of the hotel is also very good - it is back off the main beach road a couple hundred feet, within walking distance of numerous eating establishments of assorted varieties. We were extremely pleased with our choice of this hotel, and would love to return again.

With 3 nights experience in Phuket, we stayed in Grandsuset Hotel. It was a warmly greeting from all staffs out there which feel like a place for your vacation. the breakfast is really good, we all enjoyed it so much. When you woke up, so you can listen to the sound of the sea and its start your day in Phuket. A hotel is 3 minutes away from Karon beach, so you didn't waste your time travel from your place and soak yourself in the awesome sea. the room, however, if you afraid of white that easy dirty, but it's always keep cleaning. It will be great, if there are some spare slippers that we can use to take a walk along the beach (in case of an emergency). But most of all the rooftop pool is so private and we can experience watching a beautiful sunset while relaxing in the pool. Thank you so much for a warmly welcome and we gonna come back to visit Grandsunset Hotel again.
