We were 3 families together. THis was our first stay with at this hotel and what can I say. Perfect in all aspects. The hotel is located nicely...its not too far off from Patong and importantly it is ON the beach too so you have best of both worlds. The service was perfect, the food was good. When we were staying the food for the children was on the house if we had lunch or dinner in one of the restaurants. The main pool was excellent and we and our kids enjoyed the slides and the lazy river thoroughly. They had activities planned for the kids every evening which was quite nice. The people we very nice and friendly and special mention and thanks to Ms. Gift who helped us out of the way to get our rooms faster. Thank you all for a lovely vacation and would love to come back soon....Cheers

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the 9th building but 3rd floor upwards. Its right next to the pool and has a lovely view of the sea.

I feel terrible that I have left it this long to review Centara Grand Beach Resort. We're looking at heading back there again this year and it reminded me that I hadn't left any feedback. Couldn't fault it. The food, the service, the cleaners, the gardeners, the pool staff, the water play area life guards.....not one thing went wrong. The only thing I'll be wary of for our next trip is the slippery factor with having a tiled decking area with our very own plunge pool. Both the kids, as careful as they were, slipped and fell hard as it does get slippery out there, NOTE - just lay towels out on the area leading to the pool. But I did love where our room was located and the privacy we had with our own plunge pool. Not used that often but it was very nice. The life guards where very safety conscious. Watching the kids at all times making sure no one did the wrong thing. Even saw them pull a few kids up who were trying to jump backwards off the cliff jump area. It was nice to know we could turn our back now and then and feel the kids were ok without us watching them 24/7. It was a short taxi or hotel shuttle to Patong shopping and very short taxi to Karon shops (or you could walk there along the beach to get to these shops. We were just happy to hang out as a family together, so this place suited us perfectly. Beach was awesome. I think just before we booked I noticed a few negative reviews and was a bit nervous but I seriously couldn't fault the place. We stayed 8 nights here then 2 nights at Centara Grand West. Not as nice a hotel at Grand West but really you go there to enjoy Splash Jungle Water Park I think anyway. We stayed in room 614. It was supposed to be raining the whole time we were there but it hardly did. A couple of short down pours here and there. I hope the people who have put negative reviews up about the staff and the hotel are not making them up just to be mean. I find it very hard to believe that anyone could get bad service from this hotel. ALL STAFF WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND. Loved it and we shall return!!!!

I stayed here with my mum-in-law & 2 kids aged 6.5 and 8.5 yrs old from 15-18 June 2014.

1. Location:
Pretty long car 1 hr car ride from airport to hotel. But greeted by a vast sea and exclusively located resort, which is quite spacious. Some walking from room to restaurants.

2. Comfort:
I would give it a 7.5 out of 10. Room was generally clean and there is privacy.
A bit of a maze to locate the room though and can be quite dark & quiet at night when out alone. Lift broke down on the 2nd day and we had to walk 1 round to get to the restaurant area. They had it serviced within the next day. The lift was not well-ventilated, old and lighting was really dim. Kinda spooky to be alone in it. They should look into maintenance of lift.

3. Hotel breakfast:
our room included breakfasts for 3 days. Not much change in variety each day but decent food. Fried rice was good but they should do something about leaving the breads and fruits uncovered. Flies were buzzing around. Oh yes, the coffee that's brewed from the machine is a thumbs up too.

4. Room service:
During our 4 days stay, we ordered room service about 4 times. The food arrived no more than 30 mins each time and pretty decent. They took a little longer to turn up with my request for more towels and cutlery.

5. Room entertainment:
Quite sad as there were no movies, just a few old ones that were on repeat.
Watched con air.

6. Pool:
Pool area was huge with the lazy river where you could float around in the big floats. The rocks at the sides were a bit of a worry for me, as my kids were waddling by themselves. Slides were a hit and they had a jump-off area from a "cliff" which was really quite scary and dangerous I felt. Lay-out of pool area was quite confusing and you might a little lost there.

7. Centara at Krabi was an awesome stay for me but couldn’t quite say the same for this Phuket one. Resort was a little old & dated in design. A few areas looked neglected & unkempt, with dried leaves and stagnant water. Not of a 4-5 star as I had expected.

Dear shpink,

Thank you for your feedback.

It is good to know that you enjoyed your privacy and that the room was clean, and I notice your comments about food and ordering room service.

I apologise that the lift wasn’t working on your second day. However, I am happy to hear that my team fixed it promptly.

I would also like to mention that I am sorry to hear that the design of the hotel and lay-out of the pool area was not to your liking and that it had a significant impact on your overall rating and experience.

We still hope you enjoyed your Phuket experience and had a wonderful holiday on the island.

Kind regards,
Martin

Overall the hotel and its facilities are perfect however we believed service quality requires serious improvement in the way how hotel guests are being approached and treated.

We were attended by Miss Oil upon our arrival at the reception. During the check-in we enquired Miss Oil if it would be possible to have late check-out as our flight was at 8pm. She advised that in order to be in the airport on time we would need to leave the hotel around 5pm however check-out time via hotel's policy is 12pm. The option that she offered us was to pay 50% of the hotel's rate which is roughly around SGD$150. We informed Miss Oil that we paid SGD$162 per night through our booking on Agoda and making a payment of SGD$150 does not seem logical for 4 hours extention. Miss Oil advised us to go to Agoda website to make the additional booking arrangements if we wanted to extend at a lower rate. The maximum extention she was able to offer us was until 2pm.

On the last night of our stay, we got back to the reception counter to confirm the details of late check-out and was attended by Miss Oil again. She informed that she was not able to extend our check-out till 2pm as discussed before due to the fact that the hotel is fully booked and our request could not be entertained under any circumstances.

In return to my question, how can the hotel be fully booked if the rooms are STILL AVAILABLE in Agoda for booking? Miss Oil advised us AGAIN to go to the Agoda website as the hotel has no responsibility for what Agoda offered. We asked for the duty manager as we find Miss Oil's behaviour was quite aggressive and unproductive as she constantly was sending us to Agoda website with a harsh tone. Mr Noom, the reception duty manager confirmed that the hotel's check out policy is at 12pm and that Miss Oil was not right to charge us SGD$150 for 4 hours extention however he confirmed that the hotel was fully booked and could not offer us a half day extention despite us willing to pay. As we did not have any reason not to trust the respectful manager of a respectful hotel we only asked him to talk to the staffs as their mistakes actually led to the fact that we needed to check out early and spend half a day in phuket without any accomodation. However when we went back to our room, we were surprised to see that ALL room types were available for booking on the hotel's MAIN WEBSITE at a last minute rate of approximately SGD$150. This was confirmed again upon us checking out on the following day by ANOTHER receptionist who was fortunately NOT Miss Oil.

Of course there might be internal policies in the hotel of not allowing half day extentions for guests. But based on our previous stay in Centara Grand Krabi, it is not true. It means that hotel staffs are not willing to do that and requested full day rates for it. And moreover if questioned directly on this matter, hotel staffs are just saying that the hotel is fully booked in order to prevent such cases. This comes on top of rude behaviour and attitude towards guests.

Overall our impression of the hotel can be described in one word - DISAPPOINTMENT.

We chose to stay in Centara Grand Phuket based on our awesome experience in Centara Grand Krabi. If our first stay were in Centara Grand Phuket we would never have chosen Centara Grand again based on the attitude given towards guests. Fully respecting the fact that in Phuket, satisfaction of each guests may not be a priority given high turnover of tourists but definitely such differences in service will not allow Centara Grand to build a solid reptutation of a chain that provides high and sustainable level of service across different locations.

The only good feedback we can give is to the servers of The Cove and Mare, who provides excellent service, always smiling, very polite, well mannered and friendly. Probably the servers can give a masterclass to the reception team and teach them a thing or two about basic service standards.

We hope our feedback will be useful for the hotel management for further improvements.

PS : The definition of "OCEAN FACING" room is NOT OCEAN VIEW. Its having a room facing towards the direction of the sea.

Dear Katakmei,
Thanks for your review however it seems a little unbalanced.
Reading your comments that the "hotel and facilities is perfect" and the "servers of The Cove and Mare who provide excellent service, always smiling, very polite, well mannered and friendly" suggest we should have a great review with 5 stars!
However one staff member named Ms Oil upset you regarding your request for a late check out, so you now label all reception staff as "rude and ignorant" and rate us poorly. Allow me to apologise to you for Ms Oils behavior and assure you this will be fully addressed for any wrong doing and re-trained. Im pleased the Duty Manager Noom provided immediate assistance to you and addressed the issue.
Your other comments about Agoda offering all rooms available when the resort advised we were fully booked is not necessarily the case as most online agent websites show availability until to you confirm the exact dates, room type, hotel etc and confirm method of payment then availability is accepted or declined.
You are indeed correct that the room type "Ocean facing" does not mean 100% full ocean view as our building provides many varied aspects.
Thank you for the chance to respond, safe travels.
Darren

Our family of four had an amazing 9 nights staying at the Centara Grand Beach resort. We stayed in one of the rooms with a plunge pool that overlooked the main pool. It was well worth the extra cost to have our own pool when we just wanted a quick dip. The room consisted of two queen beds which suited our needs. The beds however are very firm but we had mattress toppers fitted by the staff to make them a bit more comfortable.
Make sure you take strong insect repellent as the occasional mozzie would still somehow get in.. We brought standard stuff and still got bitten. Would take the patches next time.
The bathroom is quite large with an enormous bath and shower. A wonderful range of toiletries were supplied as were 4 bottles of drinking water per day. The resort is an ideal location as it is not right in town but only a 10-15 minute walk down the hill to Karon or a few minute taxi or tuk tuk ride for 200 baht each way.
We only ate at the resort during breakfast and there was a wonderful range of food to choose from. From banana roti to fried rice to cereals and eggs cooked however you like. There was one restaurant - Daeng's restaurant on the beach at the far end of the resort. It had great food at even better prices. Around 100-150 baht for most Thai meals and 40 baht for soft drinks. You can also eat at the numerous restaurants in Karon. The resort provides a shuttle to Karon and Patong at 2pm and 5pm.

The pools at the Centara are incredible. The kids loved the twin water slides as well as the smaller slide in the kids pool. The bottom of the kids pool is quite rough so do be careful and maybe the kids could wear the surf shoes. My son had a great time jumping the cliff jumps. The lazy river was enjoyable also. The kids enjoyed spending time in the kids club doing various activities and I found the lovely girls in there very attentive. Generally we spent our time by the pool or doing activities outside the resort such as seeing the elephants, tigers or shopping.

The staff are friendly and the resort is kept clean. I would highly recommend this resort. Can't wait to come back for another visit to paradise!

Room Tip: The plunge pool rooms are worth paying extra for.
