My wife and I have just recently returned from a 9 night stay. We booked a de-lux pool suit room with a small plunge pool. The room location and the room facilities were very good. Our stay was on bed and breakfast, the buffet style choice of food was vast, and very good. The hotel staff were great from arrival to departure.

The only real issue although It did not really detract from our stay was the almost total take over of the hotel by Russians, who seem to lack people skills in a big way.

They seem almost without exception to be very rude, never smile or acknowledge you when you say good morning. Whilst the rest of the nationalities seem to mix, the Russians don't even try, this obviously is something they, the Russians need to address.

The location of the hotel on the beach at the top quite end of Karon beach is very good. Although this does mean that to get into the main resort of Karon beach after dark a taxi is really the only option the cost about 4 pounds each way.

To conclude, the hotel is of a very good standard, well laid out with very good swimming pools, plenty of sun beds, and access directly onto a superb beach.

Room Tip: The De-lux pool suit rooms are well worth the additional costs, all of the rooms are situated on low...

Arrived at Phuket in torrential rain & hotel car was ready & waiting with friendly driver. Pity same cannot be said for reception staff on arrival at 9:30pm. Must have known of our arrival - I walked in, had to find someone to check us in - response was can I have your passports. This hotel needs more proficient reception staff, as had serious delays on check out - we had to ask for costs to be added on as they were missed & a translator was required for this. 20 mins later we were on our way with disgruntled, waiting guests behind us.
Fantastic room (921), 1st level, on corner, huge balcony on 2 sides, directly opposite beach & Beachcomber restaurant. Fly screens on doors (as Krabi resort) would be good to enjoy fresh air & ocean waves. Automated blinds would be preferable, the noise made & effort required to open the door blinds is ridiculous. Hotel has best location in Karon, beautiful beach, hotel sun loungers (got to be quick 8:30am may be too late), great pools - would be nice for beach towels to be available before 9am. The Cove has a good breakfast spread, you won't go hungry.
15 min walk into Karon, a small stretch of road to right of hotel to navigate without a footpath-but compared to other Asian experiences, nothing to worry about, and the rest of the walk is easy. Tuk tuk back to hotel THB100, quoted double that-bargain down. 3rd Trip to Karon & we'll be back.

Room Tip: Block 9 right opposite beach.

If you choose this resort you have made the BEST choice. The services and staff are second to none with the, ‘We can do anything’ attitude delivered being a pleasure and exceptional with few resorts/hotels displaying these characteristics.

The distance to all other areas (Karon and Patong) is just a short and cheap taxi/tuk-tuk ride but it doesn’t matter because the food and beverage prices (Baht) are reasonable at the Resort. The Lifeguards were a big hit with our children (thanks Max, Nut et al) which gave my wife and I time to relax next to the clean crystal pools that were available. The beach is also patrolled and the sea is refreshing on a warm day.

The room and amenities provided are top quality and I can assure you there was no indication of doing things on the cheap. The only negative to our stay was the day we had to leave and say goodbye to a life of luxury.

If you hesitate and choose another resort you will be sadly doing yourself and injustice. Make the right choice and decide on the Centara Grand Beach Resort, you can’t go wrong. Further, for those that think I have an affiliation with this Resort you are gladly mistaken. I have travelled around the world and this property is one of the most luxurious Resorts I have stayed.

The Thai staff are the most welcoming and warming people and this is shown by All on everyday of our visit. It was truly a pleasure. Well done Michael Gaarde-Nielsen to you and your team.

Room Tip: Book a room facing the beach. The sunset is amazing..............

We stayed here for four nights and it is truly a beautiful property. The breakfast was amazing with so many options for everyone! It got off to a rough start when we arrived and were told our deluxe spa room we had booked a year in advance was not available and we were "upgraded" to a pool suite room. Some might love this but I paid extra to book the spa deluxe because of the ocean view and the private balcony jacuzzi neither part of the pool suite. Also the pool suite room did not have wifi available and it was right off the family pool area so it was very loud. Luckily they moved us after first night but it's still disappointing to book something a year in advance then be told it's not available ?! Eating at the resort is very pricey compared to other places in Thailand but is probably comparable to what you'd expect in the states. There are two small restaurants right on the beach (if you are facing the ocean walk to your right) which have delicious food for cheap. Seriously saved our experience! I was shocked dinner at the hotel was about $30 usd /person. We did not eat at the hotel except for breakfast. The hotel offers a shuttle to patong/Karon at 2pm and 5pm and a return shuttle at 530pm. No one told us about this, I only knew because I read about it on tripadvisor and I couldn't even find any information about it in the room ! You must reserve shuttle in advance. It'd be nice for hotel to offer more frequent shuttles or at least one after sunset at 7pm or so. It cost us 400 baht to get taxi back from patong one night and we asked about twenty diff drivers. It cost 200 baht to take taxi to Karon which was crazy because it's only about a three minute ride but oh well. Still not bad but we took a thirty minute taxi ride in bangkok for 250 baht! If you want to be on the beach this place is for you! The ocean is lovely and the sand is soft and no rocks! We also loved the adult infinity pool.

We recently enjoyed 18 nights at this beautiful resort. It is located right on Karon beach with well manicured grounds and great facilities. Our rooms were large with a good balcony and magnificent view of the beach and sunsets. The bathroom was huge with a large sliding door to open it up to the room, with the view then visible from the bath or shower. We had fresh fruit, dried fruit and flowers replenished daily. The staff at this resort were all very friendly, helpful and professional at all times.

There are two large infinity pools (one adult and one general), a lazy river, two water slides and a cliff jump. We enjoyed that we could choose our family's banana lounges for the day by the pool, and have only a short walk to use the beach, pool, slides, lazy river, jump and swim up bar all in the same day without needing to pack up and move. Games were organised for the pool in the afternoon if you wanted to join in. Every Mon, Wed and Friday a large inflatable ball is brought to the pool to walk inside the ball, on the water for 300 ThB - great fun for the kids. Towels available from the pool daily. Boogie boards, snorkel equipment, pool noodles, and other water equipment available from the water sports centre near the pool (a small charge for some items).

Buffet breakfast at The Cove has a fantastic selection of hot and cold foods (breads, cereals, cold cuts, fruits, yoghurts, juices, hot Asian dishes, sausages, bacon, potatoes, baked beans, fried, boiled and poached eggs, omelette, roti, waffles and pancakes. Mare Italian restaurant serves magnificent food. The Beachcomber down by the beach provides happy hour drinks from 4-7pm, with a reasonable variety of food served until 5.30pm, and singers providing setting a relaxing ambiance here.

The Spa here is amazing - we had a 90 minute hot stone massage for A$100pp, which was an amazing treat from the moment we walked through the doors until we left 2 hours later. This is more expensive than the ladies on the beach, but a totally different experience, the best spa experience we have had.

Tuk tuk or taxi to Karon cost 200 ThB, 300 ThB to Patong from the taxi rank at the hotel entrance. You can book a nice clean car at the hotel reception for an extra 100 ThB. Laundry services are available in Karon for 50-70 ThB per kg of washing. 7 Eleven is the closest small convenience store, located next to the Heritage Hotel in Wiset Road before the roundabout in Karon. Take your own travel clock as there is no clock in the room.

The gym here was great with a towel and bottled water available each visit.

The resort has dancers providing entertainment nightly for over 1/2 hour at 8pm between The Cove and Mare Restaurants.

Our only issue with the resort was the resort considers children over 12 to be classed as adults and as such we needed an extra room for our two teenage children, we were charged adult prices for them at the buffets, yet they are not allowed a number of the resorts facilities. You need to be over 18 to use the adult pool, over 16 to use the gym and under 12 for the kids club - leaving us paying a lot extra as a family to stay at the resort, but unable to use a number of facilities. The resort needs to be consistent with it's policies of what constitutes an adult.

This resort is classed as a 5 Star Thai Resort, which would be the equivalent to an Australian or American 4 Star Resort.

Overall, a fantastic relaxing holiday with great fun water facilities, something for everyone, great room, beautiful gardens and friendly staff.

Dear anthony r

Thank you for your review and your positive comments regarding many of our facilities.

Centara child age related policy is in line with most other international travel and leisure provision, such as airlines, major hotels, restaurants and places of entertainment. The Kids' Club 'E' Zone is provided free of charge for 10 year olds and upwards and there are a number of water sport activities also catering for teenagers.

Use of the gym, again in line with all properly managed fitness centres, is restricted to over 16 year. Our Ripples pool is provided as an area of tranquility for adults to relax away from the excellent but very lively main pool area."

We are delighted that your overall experience of our hotel was an enjoyable one.

We have just left this fabulous resort after spending 10 days there. The resort would be the best of all in Karon Beach for these reasons: location is right on the beach, magnificent views from our room (and we 'only' stayed in the standard room which was spacious enough for a family of 4 (2x girls 11, 14) there was enough at the resort to keep everyone happy, I had the gym, the girls had the water slide and river ride and my husband was content reading his book under the umbrella. We all enjoyed our time on the beach and regularly used the free body boards to catch some easy waves to the shore. Breakfast was more than enough and there was a good variety of food. We usually had our dinner at Kai's restaurant on the beach right beside the resort, the food was always fresh and tasted great and very reasonably priced. I found the hotel staff to be very helpful and were happy to move us to a room with an ocean view (we originally had a pool view which was blocked by a tree) when one became available with 1 day's wait. Our room was in block 2 which I would recommend, there were a few steps (78) to get up to our floor, but I felt that was good exercise for the amount of relaxing time spent. There is also a lift that will take you to the floor level as well. Absolutely had no complaints, we loved our holiday so much that we are planning on returning in our winter.

Room Tip: If you want an ocean view make sure you request one. If being by the pool is more of a priority and...

We stayed here for 6 nights following a few days in Bangkok and Chiangmai. We were looking forward to a relaxing time after a rather busy start to our holiday. The hotel was in a beautiful location, on Karon beach. The view from our ocean facing room was idyllic.we had been allocated a deluxe room at the very front of the hotel. The room was probably the best I have ever experienced! The open plan room had partition doors to pull across for privacy in the bathroom. I liked leaving the doors open, as it was just myself and my husband. The facilities were top quality. There were the usual toiletries available, and lovely fluffy towels. The minibar had plenty of choice if required. We were pleased to see that there was a fruit bowl full of fruit in the room, and this was topped up each day.
The air conditioning unit was extremely efficient and very quiet. The balcony had padded chairs , so it was possible to truly relax. There was an umbrella stand in the room which held a large umbrella. This was very useful when we had a downpour one morning and used it to go for breakfast, in fact, the last 3 days were very rainy. This was a little disappointing as I had planned to spend the last 2 days by the pool! We did sit by the pool in bathers, reading as planned, but the umbrella shaded us from the rain instead of sun! It was warm non the less. On the first few sunny days, the poolside was not particularly busy, with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, clean towels each day, and fabulous swim-up bar. The lazy river with slides, jacuzzi and quiet pools were fabulous.
The hotel restaurant was quite expensive compared to eating out in Karon. Breakfast was included in our package, and the choice was extensive. There was plenty from which to choose. Cereals, breads, fruit, pastries, cooked meats, salads, Asian cuisine. There was a choice of indoor or outdoor tables. Each evening they had a different themed buffet. The Italian restaurant was by far a better option and the food was of high quality, but the price was higher. We had a really enjoyable meal which cost the equivalent of £40 for 2 people for2 courses with bottled water. On Another evening we decided to have a drink in the Luna bar even though it was expensive. We had a beer and cocktail while enjoying the view. It was a truly lovely place and we then decided to have a pizza from the Italian restaurant. The waitress arranged for it to be brought up and we chose to share a pizza but had different toppings on each half. They were happy to do this. With the drinks were served complimentary olives and nuts.
A short walk away along the beach were two local restaurants which served much cheaper food (£2 for a curry for example) and although it was very enjoyable, and the location was ideal, the quality of the experience was not as good.
The waitresses, bar staff and cleaners etc were absolutely lovely people. All Thai people seem to be the same. When they come into the rooms they take off their shoes in respect! Such a lovely gesture! They are so helpful! The manager was seen walking around and was "available" and approachable.
There were a few places on the beach where one could pay for a Thai massage, pedicure! head or foot massage. I had a pedicure for equivalent of £4 including nail varnish. A Thai massage was £10 for an hour, but it looked a bit rough for me, and also not in privacy. The hotel had an offer for £40 for a couple to have an aromatherapy massage together in the spa. This was restricted to certain times and was half the usual price. We opted for the offer, and it was certainly worth it.
The spa is beautiful ! My husband and I went into the separate changing rooms where we were given robes, slippers and underpants! Firstly we wore bathers to go into steam room and sauna in our separate changing rooms. Then we met in a relaxation room where we replaced some fluids with a drink of lemongrass. Our therapists came to meet us and took us into the treatment room. They were very sweet girls. Firstly, they washed our feet, then we got onto the couches. The girls were very careful to respect our privacy. The massage, which took about an hour in total, was a fantastic experience, using our choice of oils. I have never experienced anything like it! After this, they took us back to the relaxation room to relax and gave us a warm infusion of ginger.
The location of the hotel is great for accessing Karon town. We walked along the beach into the town on one day. Karon has lots of shops and bars and places to eat. There are many massage parlours, but not of the same standard as the hotel. ( The prices of these places are much cheaper than the hotel though).in the evening it is advisable to get a taxi into the town and not to walk.
In the other direction is Patong, and again this is a short taxi ride away (£6 one way). Patong is more lively, some may say rowdy and even seedy? We were glad we visited to experience the place, but as we like to go to bed at 10 o'clock , you can imagine that Patong was not our cup of tea! There was a very good shopping mall and a wide range of excellent eating places.
I would highly recommend this hotel. It was on an absolutely beautiful beach with fine white sand. The scenery is really picturesque . There are some great days out to be had. We visited "James Bond Island" by speed boat.
PLEASE BE WARNED THAT THE SEA IS VERY UNPREDICTABLE. There are plenty of warnings on the beach about the dangers of swimming in the sea. There are dangerous undercurrents. When we flew home we met a group of people who had lost one of their party when he was swept away and drowned on Karon beach. This could be said about many other beaches of course, but it was a tragic accident during what should have been a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: The front block of ocean facing rooms have a stunning view. They also have rooms with private pools...
