“Quite a dissapointment...”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

This is one of those cases where the star-rating may fool you.

Let's start with pointing out the negative sides of this hotel:
-Problems with vermin. Ants in the food at the hotel's own restaurant, for example.
-Poor service. For being a "deluxe" room at a "resort", one could expect the hotel to have at least a bottle opener and a kettle, but neither could be supplied by the reception. Toilet paper wasn't renewed by the maid, we had to remind her after each day's cleaning.
-Has the pool been cleaned sometime this year? I doubt it. It's full of sand, rust and other not-so-fresh things to bath in.
-Breakfast cost 250 baht per person. It's supposed to be a buffé, but when we got down the first day, practically everything was finished, and they didn't refill. We didn't bother going there the other days.

Okay, so let's see if there's anything positive to add here...

Well, I suppose the location is acceptable. If you walk alongside a sewage-canal you can get to Kata Beach in approx 10 minutes. However, the healthier way (among the cars) takes about 15 minutes. Hmm, can't really think of anything else. This hotel simply doesn't deliver. It costs way more than it should. Spend your money elsewhere!

The reason we booked the hotel is mainly due to the pool access room (THB2,900). Our trip is in March 2012, but we have booked as early as in August 2011 thru their website, paid 10% in order to guarantee the 2 pool access room and we have received a hotel confirmation from them as well. Sometime in February 2012, I even send another email via their website to re-confirm our rooms as we only arriving to our hotel around 9.30pm. Imaging our surprise and disappointment when the receiption told us that there is mistake done by their reservation department, thus we won't be getting our pool access room, instead we are given a deluxe room at a cheaper rate (THB1,900) after much arguement & negotiation. As their reception's english is so bad, we can't even understand where is the mistake until they called their front desk manager. Throughout the whole conversation of 30-45mins, there is not even single apology was given to us and my friends & I was at the mercy of the mosquito (when we reach our room, each of us was having more than 10 mosquitos bites). As it was late night and we are uncertain we able to get other hotels. Further, we have paid a non-refundable 10% advanced payment (THB1,900). We were forced to take up the offer of the deluxe room. Further disappointment when we reach our room, smelly room, worn out towels (yellowish), problematic lock and etc.

After we settle-in our luggage, we have proceed for our dinner and imaging our surprise, we found a brand new hotel a little bit further up. Offering us THB1,200 per night with free wifi. All brand new, bigger & more spacious room, comfy beds, newer bathroom etc. We decided to move hotel the very next day.

When we check out on the next day, the receiption requested payment of THB4,500.00 (THB1,900 x 2 rooms + 1 extra bed THB700) and they told us that the 10% advance payment is not deductable as it is payment to the booking agent which is to bear by us. We are tired of keep on arguing with the resort, we just paid up. But if we have known that earlier, we would have moved to the newer hotel in the very first night.

i stayed at honey resort in sept of last year. i paid 600 baht /night and for what i got that place is a gem! the pictures that you see of the rooms and facilities are accurate but i have to say - again for the price (in my terms $20CDN) the rooms are gorgeous! almost everything is handmade teak, the linen is high quality and always clean, the floors are good quality marble and the bathrooms are (real) slate separate multiple head stand-up shower, a very deep jacuzzi style bathtub, elegant washbasin and toilette. the a/c is efficient and quiet, the walls are thick. there is free internet in the lobby but wifi was extra (cant remember the rate but it was reasonable), the pool is unique in that it is perhaps 2 metres wide but runs the entire length of the front of the hotel. i liked it and all the kids i saw had enough room to play and have fun. it is literally a 3 minute walk to the beach which in my opinion is way nicer than kata noi, karon or phuket. all of the staff were extremely nice and several of them went out of their way on my behalf on numerous occasions. the free breakfast buffet was ok and again for that price no complaints. as for lunch and dinner well.. its thailand - go out all the time there is great thai and indian food everywhere (western food is expensive but why bother). i'm a masters student and could comfortably afford all this; which in my hometown of vancouver would easily cost me over $500. i decided to extend my stay; my new dates were in high season but as they had room and (i'm guessing/assuming) that as i was friendly and respectful towards all of the staff they just billed at the same low season rate i first booked in at (600baht vs 3600baht) and (i didn't even have to ask it was kindly offered). the land of two smiles indeed.

Room Tip: i was on the 3 or 4 floors no noise and the view is of the little valley which is nice. you can even...

Good location.
Good Price/quality
On the first night, after a long journey, and after inform the hotel that we will chek-in after mid night, when we arrive, was told us that there was no rooms availables, so we had to stay the first night on other hotel, 5 minutes by car. We didn't like it, but, we want to sleep, so we went to the "new" hotel, but there nobody know's that we were transfered to there. The next nights we return to honey resort.
The staff was not very helpfull with tourist informations, nobody knows anything.
Poor breakfast.

This hotel is a nice small hotel tucked behind some other accommodation so you don't get the street noise. The rooms are very nice with a comfy bed and bath with shower.

There's an on site restaurant that do really nice food at reasonable prices. They do a mixture of Thai and western food and nice cocktails.

It's a short walk to the Kata beach, along the smelly river (sewage on rainy days). The Kata beach is a nice beach where you can rent sun loungers and snorkel gear. An assortment of water sports were available banana boat, jet ski etc. We went to the quieter right-hand side and went for a snorkel out around the rocks.

The hotel does have a very small dunk pool, long but not wide, and a small sun deck with sun loungers.

Lonely planet details this hotel as having free Wifi. The wifi isn't free 200 BAHT per day or 600 BAHT for the week.

The hotel gave no intro booklet in the room or any info about use of the room therefore we discovered on our own that you shouldn't put toilet roll down the toilet as it plugged the toilet up. The phones couldn't get an outside line and the staff although very nice had little English so was difficult to communicate about problems or issues.

Best to book direct with the hotel rather than via booking agent websites as the agents drop service and taxes on top of the room rate but if you look at the hotel website the room rate already includes service and taxes so the agents are doing you. Also if the hotel website shows as unavailable it doesn't actually mean they are full. They still show as available on agent websites so I'd recommend calling or contacting them directly.

We didn't particularly like the Kata street area as you got hassled constantly by street vendors. We went to Kamala after this and it was a bit more relaxed along the street.

This hotel has a very friendly staff and very comfortable beds. Location is good -you can easily walk to a store for water etc. and there are a few restaruants around however most lack any ambiance.... A ten minute walk will take you into ''the action'' where you'll find tons of great restaurants with great food and energy. The beach is about a 10 minute walk away as well, but both walks are pleasant. While there are other many fantastic hotels to stay at in town, you really can't beat the beds here, we will be back!
