“Hmmm”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

I recently spent 7 nights at Nai Yang Beach Resort whilst attending a Retreat. The name is misleading in that it is not on the beach, and not really a resort. It is within close walking distance of the beach, but don't expect a view or to feel link you are "at the beach". There are 2 swimming pools, but no spa, sports facilities, gym, choice of restaurants or anything else that would constitute "a resort". It feels more like a motel. The bed was like a wooden board and extremely uncomfortable. The airconditioner swing mechanism and temperature controls did not work. My room constantly smelt of drains and although I did my best to explain the problem, it was clearly misunderstood as housekeeping did little more than to come in and spray the curtains (?!) The staff, although most willing, speak very little English. Be prepared to pay for WiFi in your room. There is free wifi at Reception. There is a conference room with the basics. Room service was surprisingly quick and the food good (on the one occacion I used it). There are a few little beach pubs and eateries along the beachfront giving one a bit of the "Thai experience", but for me the location still felt very remote and isolated with not enough either in the hotel or in the immediate vicinity to peak my interest. Most guests in the hotel appear to be airline personnel (who do their laundry in their room and hang it outside - underwear and all - to dry on the towel-rack!) The hotel is close to the airport, but then this is exactly what this is; an airport hotel, Thai style. I would not really recommend it for a Phuket holiday experience.

Room Tip: Choose the best rooms.

I spent 5 nights in a so-called Thai Mini Suite (don't get confused by the description on the resort's homepage: this room type is not a two-level-room, it's either on the ground floor or on the first floor). It consists of a sitting room with attached spacious balcony/terrace and a separate huge bedroom with access to shower and toilet (both in separate "cabins"). Older TV-Model and a huge fridge are also situated in the bedroom. The room was very clean with standard amenities (shower gel, pool towels, coffee maker etc.). Mini-Bar prices were OK. TV channel selection and quality of reception are somewhat limited. Thai Mini Suites are located in a row of small buildings that contain 2 rooms on ground floor and 2 on the first floor, separated by the stairway between them. Of course there are also other roomtypes...
In general, the resort is quite cramped having all the rooms stand very close to each other and also to the paths linking them. If you have a room on the ground floor, your terrace will usually touch the walkway - nice for watching all the people passing by but not so nice if you want to have some kind of privacy.
Having the walkway so close also has another significant downside: People are arriving and leaving the resort 24/7 so the loud sounds of their trolley wheels on the concrete might well disturb your sleep. The crowd is a mixture of individual and organized travellers, incentive groups, airline crews. Like in several other Phuket destinations, russian seems to become the second language - but still far from the situation that you'll find in Na Thon.
The 2 pools were clean and had enough of sunbeds & umbrellas. The beach however is not attached to the resort, you can't even see it from anywhere inside. You have to walk out of the resort to the beachroad (which is a cul de sac, so not a lot of traffic), walk though the alley of shops and restaurant and then you'll face the beach.
Breakfast is like in most other asian resorts quite dull and is served in the restaurant which you can ignore for the rest of your meals: looks an old garage, no nice view, more expensive than the beach restaurants on the other side of the street.
Very welcome is the proximity to the airport: 5-10 minutes drive but you don't hear a lot of the starting/landing planes :-)

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor and try to catch a room to the far end of the resort!

I only stayed here a couple of nights, but wish I'd stayed longer. The staff were super friendly and gave me a free room upgrade on check-in, which was a pleasant surprise. I'm not sure if that was due to some renovation work being carried out near reception. But either way I never asked for it, nor was I too bothered by the noise, so that was very kind of them!
The rooms are spacious, very modern, fresh and clean. The gardens are lush and well kept and there are four separate swimming pools. The whole resort has a peaceful, laid back feel to it, yet it's just across the road from the shops, restaurants and bars in Nai Yang.
The area is next to a National Park and is not as developed as other parts of Phuket. I liked it because it had just enough going on, but without being a loud, full on party 'til dawn! The beach is relatively clean and great for a long walk.
Breakfast is served at the Italian restaurant a short hop from reception. It's sufficient. Nothing too amazing, but then neither is my appetite at that time of the day.
I would definitely recommend both Nai Yang and the Nai Yang Beach Resort to any first timers in Phuket looking for somewhere relatively quiet and friendly to stay.

The Nai Yang Beach Resort is one of our favorite hotels in Phuket. We normally stay in very high-end hotels in Bangkok and then fly to Phuket and enjoy what Thailand was like years ago. It reminds us of Playa del Carmen in Mexico 15 years ago before the major developments took over the landscape. Located in a National Park near the Phuket airport, the Nai Yang Beach Resort is well kept with wonderful staff, spotless pools and great rooms. The sheet are very soft, the white tile floors very clean, showers are good and the cable and internet work well. The only reason I do not give the resort 5 stars is the beds are very, very hard and it is not directly on the water.
In my opinion, for the price, it is one of the best values in Phuket

Room Tip: We like to ask for a room that opens up to the walkway and the pool and is close to the front desk.

Stayed here for my final two nights while in Thailand because of its close proximity to the airport. The room was a nice size, clean and had good air conditioning. There were a few pools in the resort, two of which shared a small bar that was open during the day. Directly across the street from the resort is the beach. The beach had a lot of kite surfers, which is great if your a kite surfer. If you wanted to swim in the water you had to be careful because there were so many kite surfers buzzing around. Some of them got annoyed if you were in the water and in their way. The beach had many restaurants and bars that stayed open late. Overall it was a good place at a good price in a convenient location.

This hotel is excellent. We arrived by flight past midnight, the hotel's shuttle service still working (200B if you like haggling with airport taxis). We opted for the cheapest room (1000B/night) and it was wonderful! From the spacious tub to the neat bed and balcony, almost everything was perfect. We saw two pools though we didn't use them, and haven't eaten breakfast in the hotel. The staff is friendly. All in all, considering that there's nothing to do in Nai Yang, this accommodation is comfortable.

We found only a couple of problems:
1. The cold water seems to have a 10-seconds period where it weakens and strengthens continuously, so when you take a shower prepare for hot/cold waves all the time.
2. During rain (and there's some every day and night around Sep) there are weird sounds, resembling broken sirens, that are made by the drops hitting certain drain pipes. A bit spooky, really, and might give you trouble sleeping.

We stayed here for a week as we wanted the "old feel" of Thailand like we used to know it 15 years ago & this spot was perfect. The Hotel is across the road from the beach with lots of restaurants & bars & massage places all lined up along the beach. The rooms are fantastic, all very modern & nicely decorated. We stayed in a Mini Suite on the top floor which had an extra sitting room, but I had a look a the other rooms & even the ":Cheapie" ones down the back are gorgeous. The staff were lovely. Didn't have breakfast here so can't tell you about the food. The gardens are beautiful, set with a lot of trees around & there are 3 pools which were so nice. The beach across the road is also nice & clean compared to some in Thailand. They drove us to the airport when we left for the same price as a cab - 2--Baht. My only negative about this place was that, as we were up near the Reception, every time some late comers would arrive from the Airport, sometimes at late as 2am, the luggage boys would wheel their luggage down the back to their rooms on the loudest noisiest luggage carts in the world & this would always wake us up, as would the inconsiderate people that were checking in, talking very loudly on the way to their room. This happened most nights so I would suggest, either getting a room in the 3 story building which is away from this path, or getting a room right down the back in the Cheapie rooms, where they may not pass you.
