To review a hotel I should probably speak about the hotel. In a word it is excellent. The grounds are beautiful, the main pool with true 5 star landscaping is perfect for relaxing, dipping and letting the stress of daily life wash away. There are other pools for the serious swimmer so the two personalities don't have to compete for their highest pleasure. Our room was well appointed, clean etc (the quality you expect but too often don't get in many parts of Asia). The rest of the resort is equal. Great restaurants, etc.
Now to the real reason for this review. We were at the New Year's Party. With more gray hair than not I have been to many New Year's Eve Parties and this year at the Indigo Pearl the party was the best I have been to. The banquet was amazing, beautifully set out with all the appointments. I am not big on food so that was not the most important thing to me, however a couple of the guys in our group are really into food. They have continued to talk about how good it was weeks after the event. (I am writing this in February).
For me it was the show, or actually shows that was most impressive. They had a great band with an exceptional singer who played music that everyone seemed to connect with. Our group had people from early 30s to 60s and everyone was touched by something that was special to them. The band was the stable of the evening starting out with soft dinner music and then coming back with excitement between each of the other acts.
The other acts were equally wonderful. The Thai dancers, what I assumed were both traditional and modern, put on many fascinating shows. The dancers were entertaining on stage and friendly off stage. A highlight was the "sash" dancer. I don't know the correct word for it, but the woman climbed two material sashes hanging from the ceiling and did some amazing acrobatics while just hanging by the material wrapped about parts of her body. It was exotic and erotic while completely maintaining a high level of decorum. I loved it, my wife loved it and the kids in the audience were in awe. First class stuff!
Of course there were lots of impressive fireworks at midnight and complimentary champagne. That would seem reasonable, but last year we were at a 5 star resort in Vietnam where the midnight champagne was not complimentary and there were no fireworks or even extra shows just the band. Not a bad night, but nothing in comparison with this year at the Indigo Pearl.
Everyone from the dancers, band members, and yes even the cooks were happy to pose for pictures - I took a lot of pictures and never got a frown or even cross look. The friendliness was genuine and complete. It made the evening special as I went away with not only great memories of the shows and the great band, but also with a deeply satisfied feeling that can only come from being emotionally supported throughout the night.
Thank You Indigo Pearl This year, the money was very well spent.
