A short drive from the Villa Castagna this became our local eatery ! - great ! the kids loved the pastas and pizzas and the grown-up's favourites were the grilled veal and the pasta with creamy truffle sauce. All washed down with the house chianti. Well worth the short trip from Siena.

We arrived in Toscany, very late and very hungry, so we decided to try our luck nearby. We passed some restaurants, most of them were empty. La piccarda was full, even it was 22:30. They arranged us a table (4 of us). Everything we had was excellent. So we decided to come again for breakfast tomorrow.
Breakfast grew to lunch and we've found out that we were there already 3,5 hours.
If you are in Toscany-it's a must-see place.
Value for money is great and the hospitality is extraordinary.

We found this restaurant by chance and have been going back to it on a regular basis ever since. The menu is simple but covers everything you would expect from a Tuscan restaurant. I've yet to have a bad meal there and the service is fantastic-they treat you like family!

I had my pre-wedding dinner there in 2012 and they could not have done more nor made the evening any more perfect.

We went yesterday to have early dinner at La Piccarda. The food was fantastic. We started (primi) with Magherita pizza and pasta for the kids, tagliorini al tartufo, eggplant parmesan (great!) and squash flower filled with ricotta and herbs. For the secondo, we had Lamb chops (one of the best I ever had), Branzino fish ("al cartuccio" or made in the oven wrapped in parchment paper), Peposa de Chianina (or beef stew in a pepper sauce). For desert we had Tiramisu, and Panacotta.
Every single dish was tasty and the staff made us feel at home. The chef came to our table and gave us a taste of his home made mostarda (a tasty jam made of fruit (in this case pears and figs), mustard powder, and white wine that you spread over cheeses or even meats) with pecorino cheese. Really good!
The restaurant decoration is simple, but elegant. Very welcoming, with trees and seasonal flowers as you come into the restaurant. It has a charming outdoor seating area if you prefer to have your lunch or dinner outside.
I was surprised to learn that they open all day long (not as most Italian restaurants that are closed in between lunch and dinner) and they even have a nice bar with breakfast items in the mornings (italian breakfast are bakery goods such as brioche, expresso coffee or orange juice, or a small sandwich with prosciutto and fontina cheese). The bar also offers (of course) gelato artigianale.
There is a parking area 50 meters from the restaurant so it was easy to park and get there.
I recommend this restaurant.
I definitely recommend this restaurant.

This little restaurant which from the outside you might ignore completely has a truly delicious and innovative menu. For example, the gnocchi made with Tropea onions is absolutely unique, and they are also a bit spicy. The chef gives special twists to the usual Tuscan dishes. His wife Angela who manages the restaurant is an absolutely charming and lovely woman. Highly recommend either for lunch or dinner. Note that they also make very good pizza and on the weekend the restaurant can be very crowded and noisy. In the summer there are tables outside as well so noise level is better.
