We spent two night here in late May 2013 as part of a short break in Yorkshire. Our visit was based on the Travelzoo deal which appeared to offer good value for the money.

The hotel itself is an old coaching inn and this may have led to our disappointment about the standard of accommodation itself in that it was a bit basic and didn't give us any 'wow' factor. On the first morning we were woken to the sound of the hotel cleaners going in and out of their cleaning/ utility room (our room was directly across from where they were based). Reception were very understanding of our complaint and we were switched to a quieter room in the hotel which we again felt was small and basic, arguably in need of updating.

On the other hand, the leisure facilities were very good and the pool itself was excellent. We would also like to point out that the quality of the food in the restaurant was of a high standard and we were most impressed by this aspect of the hotels service.

Overall mixed views and somewhat disappointed by the accommodation quality.

We stayed here for a week in early July, great hotel with friendly helpful staff and good food.
The room was large with a decent sized bathroom, the bed was a good size and very comfortable.
The car park is gated which gives a nice secure feeling.

The breakfast needs special mention because it was freshly cooked to order, and brought to the table, super service.

We found it easy to visit York, Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales by car from here.

I would certainly stay there again if in the area.

Stayed one Saturday night at the Crown in July 2013. Overall the hotel was very pleasant with good secure parking, however our 'Standard' double room was small with a double bed, not a kingsize which you come to expect after using the budget chains.

The small bed, combined with a lack of air con and some very warm weather made sleeping difficult as with the windows open you could hear noise from nearby pubs and the small fan supplied was simply not up to the job of moving the air around.

We didn't have dinner in the hotel as there were far cheaper options available within a short walk of the front entrance and bar prices were double that of the nearby pubs and local CIU Club.

Breakfast however was very good and made up for some of the other shortcomings however at £112.00 for one nights bed and breakfast for 2 (booked well in advance as a Best Western 'Rewards' client) it wasn't really value for money in my eyes I'm afraid.

Room Tip: Maybe go for an 'Executive' room to get more space?

A very comfortable hotel, all the public rooms are what you would hope for in village/market town hotel. The bedrooms spacious and well equipped.
The big plus with this hotel is the staff, all exceptionally helpful, polite and friendly, perhaps some of the male waiting staff may be a little over the top!
Breakfast perhaps a little on the sparse side for tea and toast, but the cooked breakfasts admirable, the haddock, well, my wife has never had such large portions anywhere.
If there is a downside... the dinner menu is variable.. perhaps the chef may be over stretching in some areas.

With the kids the Four of us had an Evening Meal, The kids Menu was £6:50p and Adults varied, we had the steak and a rack of Lamb. Everything was done to our perfection and the Kids also finished their choices. Only downside was the wait for the meal, however it was explained on the Menu that they did not do Fast food only Good food, this was also pointed out by our friendly waiter. The lot including a round of Drinks came to £66..Very worth it in our view..The Facilities were clean and the Staff very friendly and helpful, well worth a visit though I would suggest booking for a weekend meal as we went on a Thursday evening and by 8pm it was mobbed.

Room Tip: No Idea I`m afraid only had a Meal, but the Hotel is not on a busy road so road traffic noise would...

Like some previous reviewers my wife and I had a 2 night DB&B deal which we booked via Travelzoo, and it proved to be exceptional value.
Lovely location, excellent facilities, quality food, the staff we encountered which included housekeeping, reception and restaurant were all very pleasant and helpful, really top notch.

If possible it may be an idea to avoid the rooms at the front of the hotel during a hot spell like last week, as sleeping with windows open there was quite a bit of traffic noise.

I would highly recommend this hotel.
