Enjoyed a lovely lunch here on Bank Holiday Monday. Was greeted by Garry front of house/bar man, he was very polite and could not do enough for us.The Lamb Wellington was cooked to perfection, as was my partners salmon, all served with fresh vegatables. The desserts were mouth watering, chocolate fondant was freshly made we was told there would be a 15 minute wait while it was been made and it was worth waiting for. Will be eating here again, maybe Sunday Lunch next time.

Loved it! Go with a realist expectations of a traditional hotel and it hits the spot. Me and my sister stayed here for one night, enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi, slept like logs then were greeted with the most fantastic cooked breakfast. AMAZING scambled eggs!! Bacon, sausage, hash browns, mushrooms, tomato, baked beans, fried bread, black pudding all served on a warm plate. Happy days :) Yes it is old and has creaky steps and the sofas might be a little worn but has character and is clean to boot. Towels were fab too! TY x

Stayed 4 nights in August, original room very hot even with the window open.Reception very kindly arranged a change and that was fine. The lift was out of order but rooms on the first floor easily reached by stairs, staff did carry luggage up for us. Excellent food in the restaurant, breakfast and dinner. The indoor pool etc was spotless and never too crowded. Staff throughout very friendly. Will definitely recommend and will be back!!

Room Tip: Not Room 50 , very hot and noisy from air conditioners.

We had asked for a quiet room and on the third night of our stay there was a wedding reception going on and we couldn't hear it all, brilliant! All the staff were friendly, especially the lady who seemed to manage the restaurant, a real people person! We dined in one evening, had a sandwich lunch on arrival, all good, and breakfast was excellent, so good to order breakfast and to have it brought to the table piping hot! We had an executive room, which was furnished well, was clean and seemed freshly decorated, with a good bathroom, but the room was small, as was the bed - sadly not a king!! The bed was comfortable, good linen and pillows. We overlooked a flat roof, our window opened which was essential in the warm, stuffy weather we had during our visit, the fan was great. This was good value, and I was just disappointed not to have time to try out the pool. We were visiting Ripon and so location was good. The secure parking behind the hotel is excellent. The public areas are well decorated, though one section of the restaurant is quite dark. There are silk flowers on the restaurant tables, which are ok, but some are in black vases, which need checking, black attracts the dust!!

We stayed at the Crown Hotel recently for one night only ( thank goodness ), when visiting friends in Borougbridge, Yorkshire. On arrival we were told that the lift was not working, and obviously had not been for some time. Being in my 70s and with a hernia, it was quite a struggle lugging our cases up to our room. On first inspection, the room looked quite nice, although it was facing the top of the stairs. As we started to settle in we noticed that the TV was in a ridiculous position on the wall, impossible to see from our beds, and the wallpaper had a damp patch. The light pull cord was missing and the cold water tap in the en suite was not working, and had not worked for some time.. As it was a Sunday evening ,the chance of getting it fixed was nil. There appeared to be a musty and damp smell about the Hotel, and we noticed a dehumidifier in the lounge. The receptionist exuded a rather world weary air, so we gathered that she was aware of these problems, but had failed to have them rectified.
On the plus side, the breakfast was very nice, but with a fairly limited choice, For £100 for a nights stay, it fell way below the standard we have experienced elsewhere, and certainly did no favours to Best Western Hotels.

Room Tip: We would definitely not stay there again.

We had been driving for some time and needed fed. We'd let time go and it was around 3pm so we weren't sure if the hotel would still be serving food but were assured the kitchen was still open.
The friendly barman served us and we took a seat to look at the menu in the bar as the restaurant was closed.
The hotel motto is something along the lines of 'we don't do fast food we do good food so please be patient". We were certainly patient but when the food arrived we wished we hadn't bothered.
£13.50 for a chicken breast with about 8 obviously reheated chips and a limp salad or £11.50 for a piece of fish, not a fillet, a piece, undercooked along with the same sad looking chips
It really was a very forgettable meal and we won't be going back.
The hotel itself seemed really nice, lots of wood panelling and beams with a secure private car park and swimming pool.

We stayed for 2 nights on a special offer but paid a few pounds extra for an upgrade. Both the room and bathroom were large, very clean and well worth the extra. The staff were all very polite and helpful. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and the food was first class. Located in the centre of town with a secure car park the hotel is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding areas either by bus or car. We took a very enjoyable bus ride through the villages into York. It would certainly make an ideal place to stay for easy access to any of the race courses in the area. We had a very enjoyable stay and would not hesitate to make a return visit.
