We went here to try to get some rest and have a leisurely time touring about after a busy few months and a family bereavement. We booked for three nights, the first was fine apart from the traffic noise and local boy racers until the early hours. The second night a fight broke out about midnight between a couple in the next room who were shouting, slamming doors and banging about, this went on for a while but we didn't want to complain to reception as we hadn't seen any other guests on our floor therefore it would have been obvious who had made the complaint. The fight died down but re-started about 01:30 with slamming doors and shouting, then a large group of very loud local neds en route home from somewhere started fighting, shouting, swearing and climbing drain pipes and scaffolding across from our room, we were very scared and called reception about 02:20, the police arrived promptly but didn't get out their van, they just waited for the neds to disappear.
After a very poor night's sleep we had breakfast and spoke to the (very friendly and helpful) receptionist about checking out early, she arranged for a refund for the third night but the manager refused a refund for the second night as the street riot was outside their control and we had failed to notify reception about the fight in the next room.
To be fair the hotel was ok and let down my some scummy locals and guests. I wouldn't stay here again or recommend if if you want a quiet time.

Just back from a weekend break to the Crown in Boroughbridge. We were after a weekend to just chill out after a family bereavement and we got exactly that. The staff were all wonderful and check in was problem free. We booked direct with the hotel at £89 each night for the room. We were delighted to be given a large room on the first floor with an extremely comfy four poster bed. The tv is small on a swivel wall arm and was fine for the time we had it on. Boroubridge is a small village with a selection of quaint shops. If you need a hairdresser then this is the place. We counted at least 6 beauty salons. Became quite hilarious actually. We visited the Black Bull pub where prices were very reasonable and they had a cosy snug area. Boroughbrdge is situated only a few miles from Ripon , York and Harrogate so not far if you want a proper sightseeing weekend. The village also has another couple of pubs, a social club and a few restaurants. We ate at the indian restaurant on the Sat night right opposite the hotel , reasonably priced ( approx £40 for 2 with drinks ) . Had quite a wait for starters with people collecting take away orders but food delicious and swift after initial wait. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night of our stay and although as previous reviewers have stated there was hardly anyone in this suited us as our waitress/barlady Steph was extermely friendly and we had a lovely night. Can definetely recommend the lamb Wellington dish. The bar prices were a little steep at the hotel but we had budgeted for this and they werent that over the top. One of the best aspects of our whole stay was the leisure centre within the hotel. The pool was a good size and there was a good jacuzzi. Yes it was on a timer , I think about every 10 -15 mins but we just had a little swim then hopped in no probs. There is also a sauna and steam room and a good gym available. We had read there was a toddler swimming session on the sat morning so visited the pool in the afternoon on both days and virtually had it to ourselves . Bliss. Would we return - probably yes for a quiet weekend to unwind but if you want action packed this is not the place. The hotel also provided good secure parking with a code for leaving.

We made an advance purchase (no refund) reservation at the Crown Hotel Boroughbridge for Saturday 4th December. Although major roads were open, the prevailing advice for travel arising out of a heavy snowfall, was non essential travel should be avoided. Whilst the hotel could have insisted the booking was for this date only, they agreed to postpone it two weeks to the 18th December.

The hotel sits on a corner of the Great North Road and a side street in the centre of Boroughbridge and it has been significantly extended from its origins as a manor house, dating from the 15th Century.

We arrived at around 21.30 on a bitterly cold night, entering the large secure carpark via automatic gates; to exit, one requires a four-digit code supplied by reception on departure.

Entering the hotel we were greeted by a warm inviting interior, most welcome on the night in question. Signage led us to the reception, where the receptionist was doubling as the barman, and we appeared to be the only people in the hotel. Having checked in we gave our bar order, to await our return after going to our room.

We had an executive room on the ground floor overlooking the side street. Secondary glazing meant that external noise was not intrusive. The room itself was large and well appointed, with tea and coffee facilities, a trouser press, wall mounted TV which could do with an update, and a super king-sized bed – two single beds zipped together, which was extremely comfortable. The bathroom had a shaver point with a fixed shower over the bath, and included toiletries.

We adjourned to one of the several lounges for our drinks and the only additional person we saw was the Duty Manager locking the bar.

Breakfast comprised fresh fruit or tinned prunes/or grapefruit, choice of cereals and a comprehensive hot menu, which included kippers, and a choice of either white or brown toast. We had obviously not been the only guests, as several other people appeared at breakfast.

Overall the hotel (including its heated indoor pool) presented a clean bright and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff with whom we came into contact, were friendly and helpful.

We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone, and we would definitely stay there again.

Friendly staff, good leisure facilities, excellent evening meal and breakfast. We had a great 2 night stay here, the only thing that we could fault was that the room was too hot.A fan is supplied though and this seemed to do the trick.Everything else was spot on.I'd read reviews about slow service at mealtimes but we were pleasently surprised with the speed and quality of the meals. We would definitely visit again.

first impressions were oh its not to bad nice friendly girl on check in advised us restaurant was full at 7-30 so we booked for 8 got a very indifferent meal at 9.we cancelled breakfast as we wanted to be away before noon. staff ok even had a bit of a laugh with the head waiter , but the poor meal took the edge off the night. bar prices quite steep little change out of a tenner for a pint and a sherry. would have to be desperate to visit again

My wife and I booked here for a night away, as it seemed like a charming pub / hotel in a nice little market town. This is exactly how it turned out to be, a nice building, well equipped with amenities. The pool was nice, as was the jacuzzi. The place however did seem eerily quiet, one of the bars downstairs was always closed, the communal areas were deserted, the restaurant was empty and devoid of character, as was the main bar area. Reception was efficient if not terribly welcoming.

The room was in the far corner of the top floor, which was actually fine because it flet more private, however, on the down side:
We had a view of a brick wall which wasn't nice. The old sash window didnt close properly and rattled in the wind, the tv was tiny and mounted high in the corner. The bathroom door wouldnt close, and the toilet seat wouldnt stay up, which is dangerous as any man wil tell you.

That said, the room was cosy and comfy, maybe a little cramped if you're there for any longer than 2 or 3 nights with a lot of luggage. The bed was comfy and the shower was very nice. Boroughbridge is a nice little town, not much to do really , but many pubs and beer is cheap ! The free WiFi in the hotel was also very welcome.
