Although our stay was FINE, I thought it was the not up to parr from what I would expect from a 4 star, Small Hotels of the World Standard.

As stated no introduction or any extra effort made from the front desk staff of the hotel or where their beach was. A simple "across the street" was all of the effort we got.

Not helpful on planning our tours in the area. We did find out about "La Ceiba Tours", Jaguar Rescue Center which was incredible (got to hold baby monkeys and slothes) from Alex at the bar.

Dinner- terrible at the hotel and service worse. Don't order the "jumbo shrimp," it is substituted with little shrimp cocktail shrimp (they give you extra though since they don't offer jumbo shrimp anymore....not stated on their menu.
Breakfast - was good.

Next door (down a small road) there is great Italian food at reasonable prices cooked by a chef from Tuscany. Can't say enough! I think it is called the Black Horse in Spanish not to be confused with the Italian rest. right on the road next door.

Rooms- fine, but not even close to what we had at our many other hotels while touring the country. As another review said, you can already see the wear and tear.

Pool- small, but we were one of the only people there during their slow season so no problem. Beach- fun with some large breaking waves.

Sorry I won't return here.

First i would like to say that i am a really picky person when it comes to food and accomodation!

I expected the location to be a bit rustic and boring (located in the jungle of the costa rican caribbean). It turned out to be anything but. The receptionist was extremely helpful coordinating excursions and even giving me recommendations for fun stuff to do that was not accessible to the regular person!

The decor in the whole hotel is exceptional, modern, very original and yet it fits perfectly into the caribbean!

I especially loved the restaurant, they have a peruvian chef that easily could be cooking in any high end restaurant in tne world! He puts a lot of love into his dishes and even came to us at the end of the dinner to present himself and ask how we liked it!
All the waiter of the restaurant are rather attentive, especially one who is called Alex, he not only made great wine recommendations but also knew the area very well and gave us great tips about costa rica in general!

My boyfriend and i spent a lot of time at the beachclub, as it has many hammocks and even special beds! They also serve food and drinks there which is convenient! The beach was clean and the sea crystal clear!

All in all i would highly recommend cameleon, the owner clearly has great eye for the detail and a good sense of style!

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Le Cameleon as part of our honeymoon.
While we thought the grounds and general architecture to be impressive, we felt compelled to write a review as we were very disappointed with the overall level of service.

On the whole, we perceived a total lack of management. Below is a list of our complaints:
No orientation at check-in- we were not made aware of the beach area or availability of beach towels.
No poolside or beachside bar service.
Over-priced bike rental- we were quoted $5 per day per bike in Peurto Veijo as compared to $20 at the hotel, considering the distance of the hotel from Puerto Viejo.
Very poor breakfast service- it seemed that waiting staff had received no training; they also appeared disinterested and unmotivated.
We tried to go for dinner in the restaurant one evening but were informed that dinner was not being served as there was 'a problem in the kitchen'.
While we admired the contemporary design, overall the hotel looked unkempt and dirty. Room needed re-painting, the curtains were dirty and moldy and the air-conditioner leaked. The drain in the shower was also blocked.
Poor house keeping in general. One afternoon we arrived back to the hotel 2.30pm and our room was still not cleaned- the staff member at reception was not overly-concerned when we informed her of this.
Despite being told that the car park had night security, we did not see any security person.
Le Cameleon is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, if the standard of service at Le Cameleon is typical of hotels within this group, we would be very reluctant to stay at any hotel in this group in the future.
