We came with 3 girls (25,27,29) from Uganda to do the Gorilla trecking in Ruanda and stayed two nights in that lodge. It has an excellent location with a beautiful view on the vulcanoes. The cottages are very big and one should know, that is it cold there.
When we came back from the gorilla tracking the second day wet and dirty, we were told that hot water was available and the rooms were heated by the fire place. Nothing was true. We had to ask several times for fire wood, and as the wood never gets dry, you need in addition char coal to get the fire on. Hot water was only available for 10 minutes and when the girls ran to the reception with wet hair, as the phones in the cottages didn't work, they were asked for how long they need hot water, as there was not enough fuel for the generator. They made the generator run for another 5 mn.
The restaurant is finished now, ist waste, but has the charme of a railway hall. As the door to the restaurant cannot be closed, you need a pot of char coal beside your eating place. Otherwise its too cold

It's okay for where you are. There is just no hot running water until night and there is no power until 6pm. The hotel does not take visa either so make sure you take cash with you. But yeah it was alright.

Hello Dear Guest,

Thank you for finding time to write a review about our Hotel. Yes indeed the Lodge operates on generator which is switched on from 5.00AM-8.00AM, then 12.30 PM -2.00PM and in the evening from 6.00PM-11.00PM. However our Hot Running Water is permanent 24h/24 because once the generator is on, it automatically warms water that will be used inside and outside the rooms. The provision of Hot Water is permanent either the generator is on or off.

On the issue of Visa, the new upgrade that took place in our Lodge brought in considerable changes in the Lodge Management and we are now pleased to inform you and all our guests that we are now accepting Visa and Master Cards.

We however regret that you did not enjoy our upgraded services but we hope you will visit us in future and we believe that other visitors will enjoy better services.

Once again Mountain Gorilla View Lodge strongly appreciates your positive comment and we look forward to welcome you and other in near future.

Best regards,
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

Visiting the Mountain Gorillas is expensive actually it is very expensive but it is worth it. When reviewing this lodge one has to remember context. The lodge is in a remote part of a country still recovering from the genocide of 1994. It borders the DR Congo and Uganda, the average local wage is $10 per week. This lodge cannot be compared to a $500 per night hotel in the west on any level.

However the staff are extremely friendly and co-operative, the situation is unrivaled and very convenient for the Gorilla treks.

Sadly the staff have been let down by the owners of the lodge. Put simply it is not finished and it looks very much like the money ran out. I really want to recommend this lodge because the staff deserve to keep there jobs so if you do go have realistic expectations, be aware of your environment , and relish the experience of the gorilla trek.

Location is very nice at bottom of volcano but the service was very poor with most of the staff not speaking english and therfore very hard to get abything ordered.

The place is still being built so no restaurant or bar when we went. Food was served in one of the lodges which was very basic. Food was average.

In addtion we had some sterling solen from within the room. Only £30 but still the thought that someone has been through your things is not nice. There are other places to stay to complete that magical gorilla experience and i would definately chose one of these instead if i went back.

Nice cottage rooms but the lodge still isn't finished (still no dining hall and half of the cottages are not done). There appears to be some trouble getting this place finished....our guide eluded to some "financial trouble". Careful sending a deposit. They haven't connected to the electricity and the generator keeps breaking down. No power....dining in a makeshift hotel room/dining room. The lodge is charging top rates for half of the service. Our group (and several others)) changed lodges after 1 night, demanding our money back.
With the right owner it might be nice one day.
