This was my second visit to the area but my first time at this lodge. It was far better than the option I chose last time. The amenities here are lovely. The very large, private rooms have fireplaces. Since it can be quite chilly here due to the rain and elevation, this is really nice! The fire made a huge difference both nights we were here and was a blessing when we got done with gorilla trekking and were wet and cold. Ask reception to get a fire going for you and you will be glad you did! One caution though - coals do roll out onto the tile floor so DO NOT put items you want to dry too close to the fire. We thought 2 feet away was good enough and have a burned boot to prove otherwise. Put your items on a chair, stay awake and in the room to supervise drying items, or set them on a chair a good way from the fire when out of the room.
The provided hot water bottles as well as filled the one I brought with me (you will likely want one in this area! Unfortunately one of the bottles leaked a bit, making for a damp bed, but I am sure they were not aware of this.
After trekking they have someone who cleans your muddy shoes at no charge and does a fantastic job of it! They are ready to go the next day if you are trekking again. This is close to the park for gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, and other hikes at the park.
The food here was very good. The dining service was also very good. While some items are better than others, there is a generous buffet, a lot to choose from, and many very tasty items. They also have hot coffee and tea at no charge and charges for other beverages are quite reasonable. They have fires in pottery urns in the dining area, which is nice when you are cold. They also have umbrellas provided - which comes in handy when going from room to dining in the rain.
Although our trek lasted longer than most and we got back past time for lunch, we had hot water for a shower and they made us a lovely lunch. Overall staff was attentive and most spoke English well. Would not hesitate to visit again.
