“Great 2 days”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

Spent 2 days with my daughters family here in Aug. Great walleye fishing. Filled my limit thanks to advice from owners (Roxanne). First time lake fishing for walleye. Great hosts - great neighbors - quiet evenings star watching during peak of Perseid meteor shower. Accomodations definitely well above average and all with great views overlooking the lake. Also spent 2 nights here between Xmas and New Years (2012). This is definitely a year round expierence to enjoy with family and friends. Would love to do a family Xmas here. Sauna and hot tub are an added bonus to a great trip.

Thank you so much Frank! It was great to see you and we love having Lonnie, Amy and the kids as our guests for the last few years. They have booked 2 weeks next year because they said that 1 week is just not enough time. Hope to see you again next year for a few days.

We have gone bear hunting two years with Moose Horn Lodge. The owners are very knowledgeable about hunting and do everything they can to make your hunt successful and enjoyable. They have many types of sites to hunt from, walk in sites, 4W/ATV sites, bow hunting sites, and they do an excellent job of building natural ground blinds. It is still hunting and there are no guarantees, but the majority of hunters see bear and get to tag one. They have many repeat hunters, and it is understandable why they return year after year.

The accommodations in the cabins are excellent, and very clean. Great view on the lake. The owners are friendly and helpful.

Thank you so much Ruth. It was great seeing you again this year and looking forward to next year. Tell Steve that Doug didn't put anyone else on his site. I picked a ton of blueberries after you left. We got a week of hot weather after you left and they were the size of marbles and tons of them.

We have been going to Moose Horn Lodge for 7 yrs. We were looking for a place to fish for our vacation when I found Moose Horn Lodge on the internet. The thing that sold me was the Tour that you can watch on one of the cabins. We just love it there. The fishing is great. One of the reviews said that they didnt catch any fish and that he was a serious angler, well he must be fishing for something else. We have never had any trouble fishing on that lake and we only keep what we are going to eat. It's fun to just go out and see how many you can get and then release them. The bigger cabin, right on the lake, is the one that my husband and I stay in everytime. We love how big it is and the wi-fi, large screen tv, comfortable furniture, large kitchen, 2-baths. You can shop around but you won't find any other place that is this nice, with great fishng for the price. Boat, motor, minnows, gas all included. Doug and Roxann are great and will accommodate you anyway they can. We have met alot of new friends n the 7 yrs we have been going there and we make sure we have our reservations for the next year. We always go the first week n August so we are there for our anniversary. What a way to celebrate!

Depends on what you're looking for. Owners are nice, the cabin we stayed in was very nice. We did not catch any fish on the main lake and had to tow a boat to other lakes. This is a waste of time and energy when you are looking for quality time on the water. I am a serious angler who spends a lot of money to go and do some quality fishing. if you have other priorities like a family vacation, photography or hiking etc, then you may very well like this place.

Room Tip: Get the newer cabin

Lou is right, our lake is a spring fed crystal clear lake that is difficult for most people to fish and is the first thing that is mentioned on the fishing page of our website. The fish are here but it takes a special angler who knows how to fish a clear lake. We have many guests who have no problem catching fish on the home lake. There are unlimited lakes in the area that our guests do trailer boats to which is one of the reasons that they chose our lodge and is also a fact that is mentioned on our website. It is a little more work but our guests like the opportunity of being able to fish a different lake everyday as well as a different species. They also enjoy the fact that because of the number and variety of lakes in the area, they most likely will be the only party on the lake. Our angler repeat business is over 80%. Chapleau was also named the Ultimate fishing destination in 2011.

Lou is also right, we do have beautiful cottages and are catering more and more to people who just want peace and quiet and want to get back to mother nature and have no interest in fishing. We are in a great location if you are into wildlife photography as seen on Moose Horn Lodge, Chapleau, Ontario Facebook page and website.

MOOSE HORN LODGE, Chapleau, Ontario

“A SMALL PIECE OF PARADISE”

Have you ever heard the shrill call of the Common Loon in the evening echoing across a lake as the sun sets on a mirror like waters where you can’t tell the actual shoreline from the reflection in the calm waters of the lake?

Have you ever heard the sounds of the beaver slapping its tail on the waters to signal to you his disgust that you might be treading in his local domain?

Have you ever heard the playful sounds of an otter family along the shoreline of a lake where the parents are teaching their young the ins and outs of survival in the backwoods?

When was the last time you saw a black bear, a cow moose and her calf or the majestic bull moose with his magnificent rack, or a curious red fox, wolf, or maybe even a lynx not in a cage but in the wild.

When was the last time (or ever) have you heard the screech of a bald eagle and watched him swoop down and snatch a fish from the lake, who made the mistake of swimming in the shallow waters and watch as the eagle struggled to keep the fish in its grasp as he flew away to the nest to feed its young?

And when was the last time you heard you child yell…” Daddy-Mommy…I got One…I Hooked a Big One!!!

These are just a few of the experiences we’ve had in the Chapleau, Ontario area while staying at the beautiful and relaxing Moose Horn Lodge.

We have visited Moose Horn Lodge several times over the years which was literally carved out of the woods by hand along beautiful McLennan Lake just a mere 6-7 miles from Chapleau, Ontario on Sheppard and Morse Road. Fitted with modern newer style cabins, Roxann and Doug Lynn (proprietors) are second generation owners and learned at an early age that serving their visitors brings them back year after year and generation after generation. The neatly constructed pine log timber cabins have all the comforts of home and then some. Modern kitchens are fully furnished with Frig, freezer, stove, microwave, electric coffee pots, utensils, pots, pans, dishes, and all the rest. No Traffic – No Hassle – No Noise – and plenty of good fishing and help where to find it if you need it. There are even some of the “Extra Comforts” available like a Hot Tub and Sauna for those who want to pamper themselves before they take a dip in the clear, cool sand beached and bottomed McLennan Lake just to cool off. Satellite TV is in every cabin and access to the internet is available as well. Families are always welcome and are accommodated with a small playground set, basketball hoop and of course the lake and beach for swimming and sunning and fishing.

Guiding is furnished by Doug for Fishing, Bear Hunting and Moose with appropriate licensing and permits. While I have never hunted, I hear the success rate at this lodge is very high! You will want to check out their website at www.moosehorn.net and/or talk to them prior to booking as they fill up really quickly during these hunting seasons.

The accommodation cost is extremely economical compared to what you receive! You get a cabin with bed linens, a fishing boat, outboard motor, all gas, all fishing bait (lively minnow or night crawlers) and help on where to fish for a very reasonable rate per person. They even discount the children and for parties over two persons. Bring in your stringer of fish and clean them at their cleaning site and enjoy a fresh fish meal almost any night. The clean air, water, serenity and sound of the wild are something people should experience at least once in a lifetime. Once hooked, you will want to return time and time again to get that “RELAXATION FIX” we all seek in our stress filled lives. Treat yourself and your family to the friendliest of places and people at Moose Horn Lodge for a vacation filled with fun and total enjoyment in a little corner of the world that God has provided for us to enjoy.

Take a gander at the pictures and you will agree…looks like some place you want to visit at least once in a lifetime!

Thank you so much Jim! It is great to see you guys every year and can hardly wait until next year and we are so glad that you will be coming for 2 weeks. That will give us more time to fish together and enjoy some down time playing games and enjoying your company. That is one of the reasons why I love this business, your guests become lifelong friends.

We've been going to Moose Horn Lodge for 3 years now and look forward to it each summer. Every March or April the kids start with "how many days to the cottage?". The cottages are beautiful, clean and huge. You certainly don't get cabin fever - even with two young children in tow. The view from the cottages is beautiful and relaxing. The lake the cottages are on is large and quiet. The fishing is excellent and there is a little beach for the kids to swim at. The boat rental comes with the cottage and we have a lot of fun just going for boats rides too. The satellite TV makes the odd rainy day easy to pass. The owners are so friendly and helpful. Roxann and Doug feel like family now. We've even been up for an ice fishing trip in January. The area in winter is surely something to see. We are talking about hosting a family Christmas up there one year. Book some time at Moose Horn and you won't regret it . . . well maybe just that you didn't book a longer stay.

Room Tip: Two cottages are single story and two are two story. Single level is great with children.

I've been to Moosehorn twice now and I am also planning another trip this summer. If you like nature and the tranquility that goes with it you will definately enjoy it. The cabins are quite large and spacious and comfortable for both families and /or groups and are meticulously maintained. The camp owners are always accommodating making sure guests have the things they need to make the visit comfortable and enjoyable. There is a gazebo complete with a hot tub for those that enjoy it as well as boats, motors & trailers for those who like to fish and take in the sites at the various lakes in the area. I personally did a lot of comparison shopping before choosing Moosehorn for my fishing group based on ammeneties, convenience and price and could not find a better package anywhere and would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: The cottages are absolutely beautiful.
