“Fantastic Family Resort - Kids Everywhere!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2007

Stayed 7 nights in early January 2007 (should have stayed more!)

Resort dominates the Kat Noi Beach, with a scattering of small budget "pensions" and holiday homes back from the beach behind the hotel.

The clientele is truly international and my best guestimate on nationalities were as follows

Russian - 35%
German Speakers (German and Swiss) - 25%
French Speakers - 10%
British - 10%
Aust / NZ - 5%
Singaporean - 5%
Spanish Speakers - 5%
Others - 5%

Stayed in Family Superior in the Bhuri Wing set back from the beach across from a dead-end road. Rooms were spacious and easily fit 2 adults, 1 seven year old and 1 two year old. Air conditioning was set to freezer like temperatures and we were able to switch it off at night and sleep comfortably. Rooms were quiet with little noise heard from neighbouring rooms or roadside. 40 channel TV (5 in English)

There are about 6 pools in the resort, with the best family orientated pool in the Bhuri Wing. As it was New Year there were kids everywhere in all pools, so the fun, noisy atmosphere prevailed throughout from 9am to sundown.

The beach was clean with deckchairs and umbrellas available for 200THB per day. Hotel guests would normally just leave their towels on their hotel lounges beside the pool and venture down to the beach. Snack vendors provided cheaper drinks and snacks in their shacks along the beach.

Meals were good, but not fantastic. For families who want to watch what their kids eat and make sure they don't get any upset tummies - the hotel food was fine, the kids menu had about 8 simple dishes which kept my young ones happy. The nightly buffet was waste of money, better to order ala-carte. Dining is casual excpt for the Royal Thai and Scala Italian restaurant where I would suggest you dress up from thongs/shorts and singlets.

Breakfast was fresh and extensive - 6 cereals, hot breakfast, pastries, doughnuts, asian selection, fresh fruits and cold cut meats plus "special of the day" - baked ham or fresh proscuitto (depends on the day)

There are popular eateries behind the hotel that seemed to be frequented by hotel guests and other tourists staying in the area.

Tuk Tuks were 100THB to Kata Beach Interchange / 150THB to Kata Centre and approx 300THB to Patong. Don't expect to bargain much under that. Hotel has 1 free 1pm shuttle to Phuket Town that also stops and picks up at the huge Central Festival Mall ($$$$ brand names)

Kids Club was small but popular, catering for those aged 5 and above. TV, Playstation, Ball Room, outside play area, puzzles and organised (some free some not) craft and other activities.

Babysitting was available with 3 hours notice at 200THB per child per hour - in cash.

Hotel exchange rate to the AUD was approx 25THB, down in Kata it was 27.5THB (as at 10 Jan 07)

The hotel is beautiful, the staff excellent and very friendly with all the children. The resort is quiet, an enclave away from the hustle and bustle of Patong and the other popular beaches - after seeing other resorts during our daily forays, we were extremely pleased with our decision - especially for the kids and their first introduction to Thailand.

Internet Access is 200THB for an hour
Mini-bar beer is 60THB
A triple decker club sandwich is THB280
Laundry at mini-mart next to hotel is 65THB a kilo
Day trips can be booked through the hotel or at a discount at the minimart
1.5litre bottle of cold Nestle water were 25THB
Hotel to Airport Taxi transfer 750THB (organised by hotel)
Foot Reflexology (45 mins) was 250THB across the road from main hotel entrance or 350THB within the hotel grounds.

Hoping to return in 2008 (but staying longer - maybe 2 weeks)

We stayed at the Katathani Resort late November (10 nights) with our 17 month old daughter and found it to be a wonderful experience. Certainly its best feature is being located on Kata Noi Beach which is pure paradise, crystal clear water, white sand and not overcrowded.

The hotel is split into two wings and we stayed in the Bhuri Wing in a room overlooking the pool. The Bhuri wing is across the road from the Thani and beach but on a dead end road. I think all rooms in the Thani Wing overlook the beach and the rooms did look nice but the Bhuri wasn't as busy. Our room was always clean. Good size room but not huge.

As everyone says not much to do in Kata Noi, travelling with a baby so it didn't bother us that there was no night time activity. There are about 3 restaurants outside the hotel one which is very good, sorry don't recall the name but its always busy and very cheap. Its 100bht to Kata just over the hill where there is plenty of restaurants and shopping, 300bht to Patong (if you must!). We never walked into Kata as it was a steep walk pushing a stroller but I think it would take only about 15 minutes. We only ate at the hotel restaurants to order lunch around the pool and the meals were always very good but pricey for Thailand. The Shop next to the Kata Bhuri wing was considerably cheaper than the mini mart opposite Main Thani entrance for refreshments(Water, beer, soft drink etc... to stock your mini bar. A great way to end the day is having a cocktail and watching sunset at the Beach Bar.

Yes there is plenty of children at the KataThani which again didn't bother us as we fit into that category. The Kids Club was great. We took our daughter a few times and she had fun. Lots of different toys and activities.

The pools are huge with a babies pool and a spa, you were never bumping into anyone. The pools at the Thani were also lovely. The grounds are lush and green and immaculately looked after it was rare to see a leaf on the ground. The palm trees at the Thani made for welcome shade.

Breakfast was good, everything you could ask for from a buffet breakfast catering for all nationalities.

The staff were always smiling and helpful, our maid was particularly good. No request was ever too much and there was a few accidents as happen when travelling with babies! There does seem to be a problem with ants but if you advise housekeeping they will plug in an insecticide which made them disappear. Ants can be a problem anywhere.

You must must must visit the pancake lady who arrives about 1pm selling pancakes and hamburgers, the banana pancakes are very yummy for about 30bht, the hamburgers are good too.

Massages are 300bht for an hour either in the hotel or on the beach. A massage is a must.

We had a great time and tried to extend our holiday we loved it so much. I had read many positive and negative reviews before going but was so happy when we arrived and found ourselves in paradise. This is a great hotel for relaxing and enjoying one of Phukets best beaches. Enjoy your holiday!

This hotel is at the tip of Kata (Phuket). It has two lobbies and wings, one is Thani and the other is Bhuri. Bhuri rooms have beach, pool and mountain view. The Thani rooms have mostly ocean/pool view. Check their website and select "View Resort Plan" you see a map of the resort. We stayed in the Bhuri rooms because this is where the Family Deluxe rooms were. Some superior rooms are newly renovated. The hotel is big and has a nice layout. Take a morning stroll around the grounds after the buffet breakfast (which was included in our price).

The Family Deluxe was fine, we have a nice view of the ocean/beach which is just across the street. Beds were comfortable enough, we had a King, a double, and a twin sofa. There were three of us and it was roomy enough. The room was clean, not great. Bathroom needs some renovating. Counter space was okay, better than most. Fake hardwood floors, rubber slippers provided, as well as a nice robe. A balconey with one of those portable wood things for your bathing suits (And you will need a bathing suit, other than the warm ocean, they have four pools). No clocks in the room. Small TV. Beach towels provided daily along with a tote bag for each towel.

Our room used regular keys not a key card, so it was cumbersome to carry the key around with us to the beach, to town, etc. And if you want a second key, you have to ask for it, they will not offer it to you. We noticed most people leave their key at the front desk when they leave for the beach or for a tour and pick it up when they return.

Buffet breakfast is every morning (6:30 - 10:30) at two of their five restaurants and depends where your room is located, you'll be assigned (informally) to a restaurant for breakfast. We think they both serve the same kind of food. Lots of fresh fruit, bread items, breakfast meats, egg station, salad, juice, cereal, yogurt and a few Thai items as well. Coffee was not so great, so if you love good coffee, forget it.

They have five restaurants, some more pricey than others. We didn't buy any coupons and opt to eat at a local restaurant short walk away (Something Seafood) which was more reasonable.

The hotel staff speaks okay English, there were a few that spoke broken English, but you'll get by.

The hotel offer free rides to Phuket Town, but asked for a fee to Patong. They also have tours you can purchase, but kinda high, so shop around.

This is a resort and it feels like a resort. Staff were friendly, plenty of security, guest were mostly europeans. Since this resort is at the very tip of Kata, there is not much to see or do unless you rent a car, driver or a motorbike or grab a taxi/tuk tuk. There are a few shops near the hotel, but you have to walk 15-20 minutes to the town of Kata before you see more shops, restaurant, etc.

About the taxi/tuk tuk, there is a taxi stand right in front of the Bhuri lobby, they don't use meters and if you tell them where you want to go, they will give you a flat rate which is usually really high, you may want to find out how much the hotel charges before you asked for the taxi. We wanted to ride in one of the tuk tuks and they refused, apparently they have a rotation system and you don't get to chose.

Laundry, there are plenty of places to get your laundry done, some are priced by weight and others by item. We picked a nice Thai tailor (Valentino's) to do our laundry. She was really nice and did a great job. There is a fresh fruit cart right next to her shop. There is a convenience store nearby as well as a few bars and shops. Not too much. It's not very lively at night if you're looking for activities.

Activities at the resort in the evening is almost non-existent. It's pretty quiet in the evening. I guess if you want a more lively area, try Patong or Karon.

There is an Elephant Safari (Some call it a Elephant Rehab Centre) up the hill near the hotel, ask the front desk for directions. You can take a elephant ride and feed them as well. A special treat would be the gibbons that hangs out at the bar (in front of the Elephant Safari). Their names are Charlie and Lum Yai. If you google Phuket Elephant Rehab, you may find some information on them or go to the Bangkok.com forum. Our hired driver took us there one day and we went back on our own since it's pretty close to the hotel, we took a taxi up and walked back down with a stop at the After Beach Bar for a quick lunch/drink. Up further is the Kata View Point.

We loved Phuket and can't wait to go back to the warm ocean, friendly people and great food.

Have just returned from The Katathani after a 9 night stay and absolutley loved it!!
Everything about the Katathani is paradise. The grounds are lush and green with massive swaying palm trees, the pools are big and clean so you never feel like you are swimming on top of other guests and the staff are so friendly and always ready to help.
Probably the best thing about the Katathani i thought was the beach which the hotel is basically right on. The sand is white and soft and the water calm and crystal clear blue. The beach wasnt overcrowded like other beaches in phuket can be (patong) even though there was lots of beach chairs lined up on the sand. There were so many activities to do aswell if lying on the beach getting served fresh coconut juice and cocktails isnt your thing. We went parasailing, snorkelling and jetskiing which was very cheap and so much fun!
We stayed in a fmaily room in the Bhuri Wing which is just across a little road from the beach and were very impressed with the room. It was big and had more than enough space for 2 people.
We only ate dinner at the hotel once as there was lots of great resturants just a short walk from the hotel in Kata and in Kata Noi. Make sure you also visit the lady who makes pancakes on her little portable kitchen just outside the hotel. The best banana pancakes ever for only 30 baht! Also make sure you get a massage on the beach, 300 baht for an hour full body massage -HEAVEN!
To sum up my holiday at the katathani was the best, everything about the hotel is gorgeous and there is so much to keep you occupied so you will never get bored. I wish i had stayed for longer!

  • Liked — The gorgeous beach onsite and great shopping within walking distance
  • Disliked — nothing!
  • Tips/Secrets — make sure you visit the little thai restaurant 3 shops down from the hotel, they had freshest seafood and was so cheap!

Yes, this resort is quiet; that's what it says in the brochure (Duh!). It's not far from more lively areas via taxi or tuk-tuk; ok they're more expensive than Bangcock but still b..... cheap! The food is FANTASTIC! We ate in roadsideshacks, restaurants and hotels; the former is cheaper than the latter-same as anywhere. Nothing is 'overpriced'. If you want a cheap holiday then go back-packing- the choice is yours. The Katathani Beach Resort is great; the staff are helpful and friendly. If you can be bothered to smile and say hello and thank you in Thai they'll do anything for you. The breakfasts are to die for. Don't forget to have a massage on the beach (£5)and a pedicure/manicure in the salon up the road( £3 each), and don't miss the Simon Caberet. Brilliant holiday. Enjoy!!

I stayed at the Katathani hotel in September for 7 nights. At first on travelling from the airport to the hotel which takes about 1 hour, I was a little worried that it was far out from the main areas. Well...it is and that is really great because its so quiet and peaceful that you want to stay for longer. We stayed in a junior suite which was rather lovely. It was always kept clean by the room service lady who was genuinely nice to us all the time. It had a great view of the ocean, the pool and the pool bar. We only ever ate breakfast at the hotel which was included in the price, generally we found that other meals like lunch and dinner were overpriced so we decided to walk the 10 minutes to the left just up over the hill to the restaraunts in "little kata", I can particularly recommend JASMINE THAI CUISINE, well priced, good service and most of all great food. some evenings we used the hotels service to go to Patong which was 100 baht each return. This was convenient and takes about 20 mins each way if you want to go to clubs etc and shopping but on 2 occasions we found the restaraunts there to be mediocre servce as they were always busy so we stayed most of the time around the hotel which was good for us. Overall the stay was excellent and I would stay at the katathani again when I return to Phuket. check in and check out were handled swiftly and pleasently and staff were helpful at all times.

The hotel is located on a beautiful white sand beach with clear blue water. Our room was across the street from the beach, but they did a great job with the landscaping to hide the road (the road is lower than the grass, and has little traffic). Our room was very stylish; the shower had a window into the bedroom. Our room had a safe with a programmable combination. The lobby was very nice. The pools were pretty. The staff were friendly, helpful, and spoke English well. The food was good but overpriced. The laundry service was also overpriced. They have PCs in the lobby for Internet access, which works well and is fast, but is again overpriced. If you walk a few minutes down the road, you'll find two restaurants and some mini marts and travel agents, where you can get much better values on good food and laundry service.
