“Amazing beach but be aware of the Jellyfish”
Reviewed January 25, 2009

Staff very friendly and always willing to help.
Definitely stay in the Thani wing esp Andaman,Pacific or Ocean (the best) wing.Ask for room on the higher floor.
Taxi, tuk tuk to Patong=500baht, Kata centre=200baht, Kata beach=150baht each way outside hotel and will not bargain.
Hotel provide shuttle service to Patong (dep 20:30 ret 23:00) and Phuket city (dep 13:00 ret 16:00) 150baht pp return. Good price but not enough time in Patong. Forget about Phuket city - waste of time and take care as bus drops you off at one of two stops and if you choose the city centre you will be approached by taxi service run by the shuttle service who will charge 60baht to escort you to tourist traps!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only tried their Thai restaurant and had the best Green curry.
Beach was gorgeous best Ive seen and been to Mauritius, Dubai and Goa but signs were up to care for the Jellyfish and there were loads so no one swam in the sea which is a shame as we picked the Katathani for its on the beach .
Great pools but make sure you put your towel out early (06:30ish)or you wont get lounger. On the beach they charge for 200baht for the day for a couple. Drinks are cheaper on the beach soft drink 30baht as oppose to 100baht on resort.
Have a massage while you relax 250-350baht (20-30 mins for a foot massage)-great deal.
Upgraded from Bhuri to Thani wing in a junior suite(2000baht/night) well worth it for the view and centre of all the action but room could do with a lick of paint.
Take note this is huge resort and at breakfast (ok but no variety-after a few days got fed up fed with the same food) best to arrive no later than 08:30 or you will have to wait to be seated.
Kids (poss. from the Bhuri wing) using the pools in the Thani area can spoil the traquility so not a resort for couples looking for a peaceful break.
Conclusion
Vast resort so no way can the staff give everyone one to one attention. Rooms needs upgrading. Hotel if staying in Thani wing is on the beach but if cant swim due to jellyfish or choppy waves would you book it? Definetely not a 5* resort more of a good 4* resort.

Just returned from Phuket after spending 8 wonderful nights at the Katathani. Everything about the hotel was wonderful. Stayed in the Junior Suite in the Thani Wing which gave us more room for our two kids. Swimming pools were nice and not overcrowded and the beach was amazing for the kids (except for the jellyfish - but I can't hold that against the hotel!). It was a real bonus to stay in a true beachfront property. The hotel's gardens were amazing and always spotless. Restaurants were nice and buffet breakfast was very good (too good judging from the few extra kilos I brought back with me!). The hotel even put on a daily buffet lunch at the Beach Bar for happy hour prices. All the staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs. Even though Katathani is a big resort, relaxing wasn't a problem. Just be aware that the Bhuri Wing is not true beachfront and Kata Noi is 1.5kms from the main part of Kata - where the closest main shopping / restaurant district is. All in all, I'd recommend the Katathani to anyone a beautiful, relaxing, child-friendly hotel experience.

Spend 10 days over Xmas with my wife and sons ( 10 and 8) and had a fabulous time. The hotel has a great secluded beach with gentle waves.Every single day we spent hours in the ocean , on the beach and at the excellent pool.
We are well travelled and have been to 5 star hotels in Florida,Mauritius, Kenya , Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico among others and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
Staff were excellent and emphasis is on leaving you alone to do your own thing
Xmas dinner was like a royal event.
Good independent restaurents right next to hotel.
Kids club only caters to small kids.

My husband and I have travelled to Phuket now for the last three years over the Christmas period. The first two years we stayed in the hustle and bustle of Patong. We very much enjoyed our time there, but the beaches at Patong are so busy and the water is very dirty. As we like to spend our days laying on the beach and shopping at night, we decided for our recent trip to stay a little further out from Patong, where the water is clear and the sand on beaches is white. Our travel agent had suggested Katathani Beach Resort and after doing research on the internet and reading many reviews, we decided that it was a good idea. We arrived at the Katathani mid morning and after a late night flight and feeling tired. We found the staff very friendly and very welcoming on our arrival and we were very grateful that our room was ready and we could settle in.

The grounds of the hotel were beautiful and very well kept. We were also very pleased that the hotel was directly on the beach, like advertised. Once we went to our rooms, I was dissapointed, as I felt the room was in need of an update. There was a distinct musty smell when we walked in and that did not go the whole holiday. We stayed at the Katathani for 11 nights, so the holiday was costly and we felt the rooms did not reflect the rest of the resort or the cost.

We also found the cost to get into Patong, was very overpriced. The taxi drivers wait out the front of the hotel and they know they have a monopoly of people, wanting to go into Patong. The cost was 500Baht each way. The hotel does have a shuttle service that cost 150 Baht per person each way, but it only goes at 8.30pm and returns at 11.00pm.

The staff were very friendly to us during our stay, although we found the people within the hotel, not very friendly. Unlike other hotels, people just kept to themselves and didnt mix with other guests. Sometimes it is nice to have a chat to people and find out where they are from and how they are enjoying their stay etc etc.

Overall the hotel is very, very nice and it is hard not to relax here. But if you plan to go into Patong frequently, I would suggest staying closer as you do get tired of the travel to and from.

After spending 8 great days at Indigo Pearl on Christmas, my b/f and I went to Katathani for New Year's hoping that it would actually be better hotel. How wrong we and disappointed we were. I was just shocked.

This was our 2nd stay in Phuket. We always try to choose good hotels with great beaches and always 5 stars, so I know how a five star hotel should look and be like!

The pictures on the websites don't show the truth - they are maybe 10 years old or used a lot of photoshop. The hotel's buildings are also old - Thani wing is 25 y.o., Bhuri wing is actually newer, but still looked terrible.

We booked the room in Bhuri wing. The lobby in this wing looked barely good enough for a 4 star hotel. We were taken to a super-tiny room with the mould-like smell of an old air-conditioner. The room was sooo small I can't describe. Looked like 3 star's hotel room. Uneven walls, old amenities, very old furniture. Corridors to the room looked sooo terrible with these old cheap tiles!
When we complained, we were provided with a bit better room that was renovated recently, but still was really small and with a bad view. And that all for almost twice the price of gorgeous huge Indigo suite!

We decided to upgrade to a suite and still it was no good, old old furniture, tiny balcony...

For me the hotel's bathrooms tell a lot - their bathrooms in lobby looked more like an airport WC's.

The beach is NOT private; you have to pay for an umbrella and beds. But you can stay at the pool – it’s almost on the beach. The beach is ok for those who like surfing with kite, because the sea was always very raunchy - big waves, no calm swimming there. Swimming pools in Thani wing are OK.

At least the breakfast was fine.

Nothing there except the lobby in the main building looked like 5 star hotel. The hotel is really old and all it's amenities are old as well.
The restaurant with a buffet gave me an impression of like a social dining-room. Also dinner buffet choice couldn’t not compete with Le Meridien’s and Indigo’s. No great seafood there, forget about whole snappers or groupers – not even pieces of them! Entertainment was very weak. NY party definitely not for young couple like we are - I am 28. The Moulin Rouge show was OK but the disco after consisted of 70-s hits! So no dancing for us.

To get to Patong (where all the main action goes) you need to pay 500 Baht for taxi or tuk-tuk and takes about 15-20 minutes.

Hotel's service was like everywhere else, nothing outstanding there.

Normally there are staying families with children and people in their 40s and up. But the hotel is definitely no good for young couples! And it's soo overpriced.

Overall, I would not stay in this hotel again.

What a place - Very seculded and quite. About 20min Tuk Tuk ride from Patong beach. Breakfast was good, not much variation from day to day. Rooms were excellent - I think they all look over the pool area.

Spent 10 enjoyable and peaceful days at the Katathani with wife and 2 children (5 & 8 years). Arrived at 2 am to a warm welcome, with everything ready for us. The resort is family oriented and the children loved the pools, beach and Kid's Club. Service was excellent. Spa exceeded expectations and massages on the grounds totally relaxing. Restaurants provided a nice choice of venues, but there was always the opportunity to go offsite. Baby Sitting Services made it easy to leave the little ones for a few hours "on our own" without worrying.
Would strongly recommend the hotel if you just want to get away with the family and "chill".
