“A hidden oasis”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Stayed here for a week in July 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is like a little oasis in the middle of a busy street area, the gardens and pool are almost idyllic. The staff were all extremely helpful and always ready with a big smile.
The rooms are on the small side, but to be honest we were out all the time, even if just sat by the pool bar enjoying happy hour drinks, that we didn't really notice it.
I would happily recommend this little hidden oasis to anybody.

We spent a week here in April 2013. Having looked at brochure pictures of Kata we expected something like a desert island paradise, but unfortunately the resort was at the other end of the spectrum. However, Sawasdee village provided a calm escape from all the nonsense which surrounded it.

The rooms were comfortable but small, with little space for storing clothing, but provided free web access, mini bar and tea/coffee making facitlities. A member of staff attended each evening to turn down the beds, pull the mosquito net around the bed and spray for the mosquitoes. There were plenty of "mozzies" around during our stay, but fortunately all the precautions appeared to work.

The decor is beginning to look a little tired, but the pool with the swim-up bar, and the restaurant were excellent. The staff were also very good and attentive. The breakfast provided a massive choice of foods, from local delicacies to the good old full English - although - as appears normal abroad - the bacon could have spent another five minutes in the pan.

If you decide to visit Kata (which I don't recommend) this hotel would be a good choice.

My husband and I were extremely excited to stay at Sawasdee after reading the excellent reviews. We were, however, disappointed when we got to our room. There was a loud creaking noise in the ceiling that echoed every 2 minutes and loud wind chimes that blew right outside our door, it made it difficult to sleep. After complaining, we were moved into another room, but this time we found a trail of ants behind the mosquito netting next to our bed frame. There was also an unpleasant odor coming from the bathroom. It was unfortunate, because the hotel itself is actually decorated quite beautifully. There was also one night that we (along with every other guest) waited over 45 minutes for our food at the restaurant, once it came, it was the wrong order. They were very apologetic, but the guests were not happy. I also overheard one couple say that there was no water running in their room and were forced to use bottled water to bathe. On the upside, the food was great, the pool is amazing, and the grounds were really nice.

If you’re looking for your hotel to have modern amenities, 'standard' spacious rooms, clean, and mosquito free, I would not recommend this hotel. We also stayed at Avista Resort, which was extremely clean and modern with spacious 'standard' rooms, but it lacked the Thai decor that you see at Sawasdee.

We have been their for twice, we really love their traditional Thai style design. Room was not big but with well facilities and good design. Own computer at the clean and tidy room provided also. Location not far from main breach, you could relax to enjoy the quite life far from the noisy beach but you can easily get transport to other area for several shops just outside the hotel. Breakfast was very good and staff are friendly and helpful. Last time we celebrated my wife's birthday and enjoying the pool facilities. The hotel staffs suddenly offered a birthday cake with candle lighted. even though, they sang a birthday song to my wife also. That was really unexpected surprise and they didn't charge for that when I check out. I deeply appreciate for the effort of the staff and provided a remarkable journey for us. That was my only choice of hotel at Phuket.

This place is great and I can't wait to go back, the staff are brilliant, they left a welcome letter on the desk as well as the welcome fruit basket. Booked as part of an Andaman Sky Adventures island hopping holiday, well impressed with them too, everything went like clockwork.

The restaurant has excellent Thai food and a reasonable breakfast too. The pool is fab and the pool bar was great fun, because the bar tender was so nice and fun, a real smiley fellow. Actually, all the staff were very friendly and nice. The location is reasonable, but you're quite a way from the beach – we found this to be fine with us we didn’t like the beach much – we went to so many so much better beaches on the islands down south, see my other reviews for more.

We went to Phuket for a quick bit of shopping and some nightlife, wouldn’t have wanted to stay longer.

The hotel is nice and something special. Like a touch of Thailand with great service but average suroundings. Had to go 10-15 min on not so nice streets to the centre of shopping and restaurants.
Overal we were happy with the hotel.

Room Tip: Be aware of quite small room

My husband and I were impressed. They put a lot of effort on the small details which I really appreciate. The resort itself was small but good enough. They made use of every inch they have to make the place look nice. I love the overall look and feel. Upon entering Sawasdee village, it felt like I was in a very special place...more like a sanctuary. Everybody was extremely friendly and polite which is not typical in Thailand. We came from Bangkok, Pattaya and Patong-Phuket and we were very disappointed with the people...but Sawasdee Village changed that impression. Sawasdee staff were really trained well in customer service.

Our room was near the pool which was even better. We could just go out and have a dip in the pool anytime we wanted. The bed was amazing, really big, perfect for a romantic couple. The room size itself was small but that didn't matter. The closet was very small and needed repair. The room was very clean. Floor was shiny. The bathroom flooring was also made of wood. They didn't use tiles at all which made it very unique and beautiful. They even put some books for reading near the toilet seat. There was also a beach bag with 2 brown towels which made it very convenient for guests. They also have written mosquito warning and placed mosquito repellent spray and mosquito bite balm on the table that could be used by guests free of charge. That was very nice indeed. Staff worked even at night time.I have seen them preparing flowers in the garden and lit mosquito repelling incense near the door of each room.
No matter how beautiful the place was, it wasn't perfect. There was this certain unpleasant smell in the room. I guess they were aware of that but could not do anything about it. I guess this was due to the wood material in the room. We kept the air conditioner running all the time and that made the room smell a little bit better.....or we just got used to it...
Breakfast was good but not the best. I wished there were more choices. I don't eat much but I like to see a lot. It would also be better if they would have more fruit varieties.
The pool was amazing but the bubbly part of the pool which was shallow bruised my legs - the surface was so rough. They also offered free photo and we took advantage of that. We had our pic taken at the pool. The night before our check out, we got our photo in a beautiful souvenir frame from Sawasdee.

Beaches in Phuket are not as beautiful compared to Philippine beaches. So I'm not sure if I would come back again but if I would, I will definitely go back to Sawasdee Village. Overall experience at Sawasdee was great. I would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool are great. Keep the aircon running to prevent the woody unpleasant smell.
