“Rooms tiny and unpractical, location not great”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

Yes the hotel area itself is beautiful, relaxing and inviting, but there are a lot of disadvantages staying at this hotel, too. Stayed there one night on our way from Phi Phi to Bangkok. Very glad we did not stayed longer, because the standard room we got was very tiny and unpractical with a giant bed taking all the space. We had 4 suitcases with us but there were no space in the room for 2 tiny people and 4 suitcases, we kept bumping into everything. Room design could be A LOT better. Guest bumping into things maybe explain lots of scratches on their furniture, in fact the furniture needs repairs and polishing, it is starting to look pretty shabby.

The area in which the hotel is situated is filthy, with an open gutter right outside the hotel. We were shocked to discover this. Yes they offer the hotel bus to the beach to cover the facts but the bus services stop at 6 p.m. We do not recommend to take a walk to the hotel but rather a taxi.

The food and service was great. The hotel staff did its best to be of help.

I have a much better impression of the Sawasdee Village than a previous reviewer, and we stayed there at approximately the same time--Christmas High Season! After reading many TripAdvisor reviews about the Sawasdee Village, I was prepared for the size of the room--small, yes, but I wasn't planning to spend that much time in the room when the gorgeous beach and pool both beckoned! Even though the room was small, it was well-decorated. We appreciated the fact that a computer was provided in the room with free internet access...Most of the staff that we encountered spoke at least adequate English--All of the front desk staff spoke excellent English..but in Thailand as a whole, when you're provided with an "English-speaking guide", the English is minimal..prepare for that! The hotel is drop-dead gorgeously decorated in true traditional Thai style--a definite incentive when booking...when you enter the hotel from another "normal" Thai street lined with souvenir shops and massage parlors, you are immediately surrounded by a new world full of the luxurious tropical atmosphere of tranquility and peace..the hotel offers an hourly beach bus (time to the beach--2 1/2 minutes--or a 10 minute walk downhill), and will arrange taxis for sightseeing--recommend a taxi rather than a tour to the Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha--our taxi to the "Gems Gallery"--the"Biggest Jewelry Store in the World"--check out their website--cost us 500 baht each way and 300 baht for an hour wait--and was worth it if you're interested in jewelry--but there are no real "deals" anymore on Thai rubies or sapphires..sigh...We had no mosquito issues--they sprayed every night to eliminate them--and the carp ponds throughout the hotel only added to the atmosphere--the sound of water splashing everywhere was very calming..We experienced only friendliness from the whole hotel staff--from the waiters to the pool bar employee (who made wonderful pina coladas and mojitos--the pool bar menu was delicious as well)...We found most of the Thai employees loved to share humor with us and we enjoyed our conversations with them...The hotel was pro-active about improvements--we were asked to give our opinions to one of their staff in person--and were asked to be honest about what we liked/what we thought could be improved...We were invited to view the upscale Baray Villas on the property--definitely more luxurious, but not worth it to us...many stairs to climb to the bedroom floor...private entrances to the pool, but noticed that many Baray Villa guests preferred to use our pool! We didn't make use of any of the spa facilities or cooking classes--not enough time to do everything!--so I can't comment on them...We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant on 3 separate occasions and had excellent, well-prepared food each time--seafood and stir fry...The buffet breakfast was a definite plus, offering every imaginable breakfast choice--and the omelets that we had each day were well-prepared...could also have had french toast, pancakes, eggs any style, meat, cheese, bacon, sausage, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, Thai (what I would call "dinner") specialties, etc. We had an early flight on our way out, and the staff prepared "airport" breakfast boxes for us...We thoroughly enjoyed out stay here--the atmosphere created by the hotel decor and staff gave an added enjoyment to our Thai experience...I would definitely return to this hotel in the future if I were in the area!

Room Tip: We had a garden view room--had read that poolside rooms could be noisy--but couldn't see that th...

Great place to stay and multiple spots to relax and take pictures. But hotel staff doesn't speak english properly. Quite annoying. Can't make an omelette properly and the Thai food smells very bad. In-hotel dining is pretty bad, best to eat outside.

Gave us our room 1 hour late and asked us to checkout 1 hour early. I call that bad service!

Room Tip: Must eat ONLY at the Lobster & Prawn restaurant close-by. Best to book return taxi to airport...

The pictures on the website are of the Baray villas (which costs about $500 per night). For that price you can stay at a real 5 star hotel like Mom Tri or Kathani (beach resorts).

We stayed at a garden villa here and found the room to be small but it was cute and the Thai decor was nice. However solme of the external hotel grounds are a little old. The pool is just exceptional and just as the photos show! The drinks at the pool bar are yummy try the mojhito!

You will be eaten alive by mosquitos as soon as you arrive. No repellent works!! They have ponds everywhere around the hotel with fish (which smells disgusting) and attracts more Mosquitos.

We took the Thai cooking class. Although this was fun, the person who taught us was not the kitchen chef. His English was very hard to understand. They also make you eat every dish you cook straight away, even if you are full. Also all the items are chopped up and pretty much prepared for you, you just stir it in. You get to go to the local markets near by for only information, not to actually watch the chef purchase items.

I booked the most premium spa package for 5500 baht which consisted of a body scrub, body wrap, kasa massage, Thai massage and facial. I wish I went across the road to one of the cheap massage place as they would've done a better job. The Thai massage was the only good thing which came out of this. They told me I would get 45min Kasa massage and didn't explain they would be washing my hair for 30min and the actual pouring of oil onto my forehead was only for 5minutes and the other 10mins would be taken up for brushing my hair.

The masseuse put on my facial mask and left me in the room for 1 hour by myself and same for the body wrap which I could not believe. She could've been massaging my head to let the facial oils absorbs and relax me. Instead she ran off to chat to her friends outside. For the body wrap, they wrapped me in plastic cloth (not a towel as i have normally experienced in the past) and let me boil in this heavy plastic cloth by myself for half an hour. I felt like a cacun, it was horrible and the masseuse just left the room and left me there to boil in this plastic material (which did not relax me or allow my skin to breathe). She also couldn't speak any English!

Do not waste your money using the Spa here, their service does not warranty their charges. If a spa is going to charge that much, it needs to dedicate its staff to stay with their client during the whole experience, not run off to talk with friends and come back after 1 hour to take of a face mask. I can do that at home.

The waiters at breakfast are not friendly. They just seem so unhappy and aggressive at breakfast time.

If you an average hotel, and don't mind around 15 mosquito bites within 2 days, this may work out ok for you. Those looking for a 4/5 star hotel experience, look elsewhere as the service you will get here is barely 3 star.

I spent 4 days in this hotel and it was very good. We had complimentary Christmas dinner and party as well. The food was amazing and the 3 hours in the spa were worthwhile. The room is so romantic and comfortable. Very big bed.

A peaceful and elegant Thai style village to live in. Clean room, nice decoration, very friendly and helpful staff. 10 mins walk to Kata beach. 7-11, restaurants and massage around. The Christmas Gala night party held by them is fantastic!
