“Make Sure You Get a Pool Access Room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2010

My family, myself, my husband and two teenage children, stayed at Kata Palm Resort in two Pool Access Rooms for 4 nights in July 2010. We booked a package including airport transfers, breakfast, a dinner which we didn’t use, and a one hour massage in the spa.

The hotel was brilliant value for money. We loved our Pool Access Rooms, it was so relaxing to be able to hop into the pool whenever we wanted, particularly for early morning swims. Unfortunately you weren’t allowed to swim past 7.00pm which was a shame, but it was still lovely to sit on the patio having a night cap with our feet in the pool. I am not sure if I would have enjoyed the hotel as much if we couldn’t get pool access, to me it was the highlight of the stay.

The rooms were large and clean, the beds were hard as all Thai beds are, but very comfortable. Internet was free and worked fairly well.

Breakfast was okay, there was an egg chef and each day different offerings such as pancakes, hashbrowns, etc. The choice of cereal and fruit was fairly limited but for the price we paid and for only four days it was fine. If you were there for a fortnight it might get a bit repetitive. We ate our lunch in the pool side restaurant most days. They had an array of Thai and western lunch style food, such as toasted sandwiches, burgers etc. The food was good and ridiculously cheap. My kids had room service one evening while my husband and I dined at the Boathouse , and they were very happy with their meals.

The free massage in the hotel spa was so good that we paid to have an extra one, obviously dearer that the local massage places outside, but still very reasonable. The hotel’s location is very good, only a few minutes walk into Kata Beach with a myriad of shops and restaurants, a five minute walk to the beach, and the hotel has a complimentary shuttle for this.

All up a very good stay and at a great price. I would certainly stay again.

Stayed at Kata Palm Resort and Spa for 5 days. Location is ok. 10 minute walk from the beach and 2 minutes from a road with lots of restaurants and shops. Pretty central in Kata. Hotel looks lovely but they breakfast is a NO NO. Limited choice, always the same fruit and one can only choose from 3 types all the type, watermelon and other melons being there all the time....When you ask for something else is always an issue and food replacement takes forever on the buffet. No sign of a manager for the breakfast room. Not sure if I would stay here again.

I've been travelling to Thailand for 15 years and had managed to avoid Phuket until roped into a recent trip with my Mum, Dad, Sister and Sister's BF, who go there regularly. People who have only ever been to Phuket and little elsewhere in Thailand think Phuket is great! I think its an over-rated, expensive hole with average food and service and too many Touts. You'll be hard pressed to find charming, fun loving Thai stall holders playfully negotiating on price. Most stall holders are hard nosed, rude Indians. However the Kata Palm Resort was by any standard an excellent hotel. The service at all elevels was friendly and efficient and the facilities are excellent which was just as well as it rained for 7 of the 9 days I stayed there. The A la carte Restaurant at the front of the hotel has excellent food. I recommend it as most of the other restaurants in Kata are, at best, average. If you must go to Phuket and have kids, then Kata Palm Resort is the perfect choice. Personally I will avoid Phuket until next absolutely necessary.

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Typical Thai-style hotel with fabulous swiming pools and rooms. Restaurant for breakfast was not great but the food was acceptable for what we paid. Location was fine for restaurants and shops although the beach was a 10 minute walk. Palm trees and lovely gardens at pool area made you feel as if you were in a rainforest. Ideal for families and couples.

I traveled to Thailand in October 2010, during the last 2 weeks. Our first stay was at Kata palm resort and spa. I must say that for what we paid, around 1 700 Bht per night for a delux room. The room was clean, and the daily service was excellent.

You are provided 2 0.5L drinking water everyday, not enough thou. But water is cheap from the 711, around 7Bht for 0.5L.

The room was huge, with a safe and lovely patio furnitute. It even had a corner "lounging area". The best bit was the huge bath tub that opened into the room if u wanted. Also the option of a rain shower or normal shower.

And if you a Muslim, u will appreciate the toilet spray in the bathroom.

They provide the usual toiletries like soaps, creams and shower caps.

Also with the room, u get 2 beach towels each a day, but be careful not to leave them behind, they charge 300 Bht per lost towel.

Internet is free in the lobby where they are 3 computers. Most hotels dont have there own PC's and usually have free wi-fi but we were not carrying our laptops with us.

The beach is about 200 meters away, but they do run a shuttle a few times a day.

The local bus leave from just around the corner, or u can wait and catch it outside the hotel on the main road. It goes to Phuket, passing Karon on the way. Good shopping on in Karon. the cost is 30Bht one way. Where as taxis and tuk tuks charge around 400Bht.

I found that the easiest way to get around was using a motor bike, 200Bht a day. The hotel rents out bikes at 300Bht per day and they dont require a passport as security. Every other bike place will want your passport as security.

the hotel offers laundry service, but they expensive. rather use the guys outside, they charge 50bht per kilo...

The breakfast was not to impressive. But i found this the issue throughout thailand.
So in Thai standards is pretty average. But per international standards not so! But still worth having it non the less...

the Pool, looked nice. But who swims in a pool when u have the ocean so close by...

On arrival Customs was reasonably quick and after collecting luggage we were whisked away by our HOTEL transfer for the 45min trip to KATA PALM RESORT AND SPA KATA BEACH.I have been a travel agent for more than 30yrs and I really enjoyed staying here.
Check in was quick and it was a lovely surprise to find that we had been upgraded to a direct pool access Villa. – Luxury. This resort is 7 years old and is well established with lovely gardens, tall palms, lagoon style pool and plenty of shade and sunbaking areas .The resort has many direct pool access rooms which I would strongly recommend. You can step straight from your large balcony into the lagoon .The pool area is extensive and winds around the resort and there are also 2 larger pools with waterfall and 2 kids pools. There are a number of room types to suit all budgets but the direct pool access rooms were definitely my favourite. The setting is lovely and it was very easy to relax and settle in. There are a few things around the resort needing a tweak – some paint on wooden chairs and railings and the breakfast room needs some new heated food bay maries however the relaxed charm of the resort far out ways any negatives. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Free wifi in several areas of the resort was a great bonus as I enjoyed sitting by the pool to check emails and keep in touch with family and work. While the property is not directly on the beach there is a Free regular shuttle bus for those who do not want to make the 5 min walk and all you need to do is get a voucher at reception for a free beach seat in Kata Palm’s own private area . .yours for as long as you want to stay. Beach towels are provided in your room. Selection at Breakfast was the usual with an egg station etc. Costs for mini bar were not too bad but it is also easy to walk 5min down the road to stock up at the 7 Eleven with a good selection of snacks and drinks. A good Kids club, Excellent spa treatments which I enjoyed( I had an exquisite massage at the spa and the hour long aromatherapy session was well worth the 1200(ABOUT aude48)). All important facilities are available at the resort. The pool restaurant served delicious food and there is no service charge .
I really like this property and felt right at home. Though the Kata beach area is quite Hilly Kata Palm resort is on the flat situated just behind Club Med and it is an easy walk up to the shops and the beach The staff were excellent and I look forward to returning for an extended holiday. Kata beach area has real charm and I prefer it to the Karon beach area which is more spread out and the beach is nowhere as inviting. Kata beach area is very relaxed and not very busy but there are still lots of shops, places to eat and of course the normal markets. The beach is really nice although when swimming you need to watch out for the rip which can be quite dangerous at times. Lots of surfers to watch and plenty of reasonable places to eat along the beachfront. We had Entrees, 2 mains, 1 desert and 2 large bottles of beer for bart 550 –approx aud $20. Not bad for a million dollar view sun ,surf and good food...There are also cheap buses that run on a regular basis to and from PATONG BEACH..
We also Had the chance to checkout the mockup rooms at the Sister Hotel Rawai Palm Beach Resort opening in November 2011. The resort is Near a lovely local beach close to the famous Gypsy market and near to Promthep Cape with free access to Bon Island and this will be another great place to stay once opened..

Have just returned from 5 nights at the Kata Palm , staying in a Pool access room. We travelled with brother and sister-in-law, who had another Pool access room 2 doors apart 139 & 137. What a great resort to start our holidays in. The rooms were large and spacious, fantastic large terrace with sunbeds and table & chairs, falling directly into the gorgeous pool, via wide steps. Landscaping is an important feature of the pool surrounds and overall grounds, very lush and ensures privacy to each terrace. Housekeeping was excellent, found no fault.
Breakfast was plentiful, with a variety of western and asian, egg station. fruits, cereals, hot dishes etc.
All staff were courteous, and friendly, reception arrival was great, every thing explained fully to us.
Lunch at the Angkor restaurant was tasty and fresh.
Enjoyed the afternoon cocktails at Pool Bar2, 6 meters away from our poolside terrace,
even had snacks delivered via water. What a Life!!!!!!!!!
This was a very relaxing, laid back quality time we spent with family, to the extent we didn"t want to leave the Pool area when the weather was hot, very content to stay put.
Would definately go back to Kata Palm, thank-you to all staff and management.
