“Very pleasant stay”
Reviewed November 12, 2011

We had a very pleasant stay at Kata Palm Resort. Very good value for money as well. The Buffet breakfast was great. We spent 9 days there, one of our honeymoon stations in Thai.
This hotel is within easy walking distance from Kata beach, restaurants and shops.
We had a great and relaxing time. Our room was kept clean the whole stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful but poor english...
Negatives: The bed was huge but we had back problems, bad smell in the bathroom, mosquitos even during day time.

I stayed with my husband in this hotel in Sept/Oct 2011 and with low season we got a very good rate. We stayed in the old part so the room and bathroom was a bit outdated, but perfectly OK. The bed was very hard as always in Thailand but we asked for an extra matress on top, and they organised it straight away, and the bed got a little bit softer. The pool and pool area was very nice with lots of palms, flowers and birds and with plenty of sunbeads. The staff is very friendly and always has a smile for you. We liked the free chairs at the beach, they dont have that many but in the 3 weeks we stayed we always got chairs. The breakfast is maybe a little bit boring, but OK.
When we return we will book a pool access room as they looked beautiful.

Room Tip: The pool access rooms if you can afford it

I have never been to Phuket before but I felt that the Kata Palm was a good enough introduction to the area. If I were to go to Phuket again I would consider staying there but I am more likely to look around at staying somewhere else. There is nothing wrong with the Kata Palm - it is a perfectly lovely resort, I was just not blown away by it.

Location: You are approximately an hour away from the airport. When we got an airport taxi outside it cost us 500baht to get there. However, when we wanted to go back to the airport it cost us 850baht as there is no metered fare you simply pay what they charge. We were a little annoyed by this but as there didn't seem to be any taxi companies to phone we had to lump it.
You are about five minutes walk from the Kata beach and about twenty minutes walk from Karon beach. Both beaches are absolutely stunning. The hotel has 30 sun beds available on Kata beach but you have to get up at 8:30 each morning to reserve them. As some people bulk reserve we didn't bother and just paid the 100baht each for sun loungers when we got there.
There are plenty of restaurants around the hotel which serve a range of different types of food. There are also lots of bars and souvenier shops and street vendors. If you want to stock up on things like drinks and sancks for the room then turn right when you leave the hotel grounds and walk along the street and there is a 7/11.
Apart from the beach and the airport there isn't much difference in location with this hotel than other hotels as any excursions you do usually come with a round trip transfer service in with the price.

Staff: My first impression of the staff was not a good one as the person who checked us in seemed more bothered by our arrival than pleased. However, the more contact we had with the staff the more positive the experiences. We were surprised to find that the person we spoke to the most was the resident manager and he was always very friendly and personable. The gentleman who organises the tours was also fantastic as he took personal care of us. On the whole all but one person at the Kata Palm made us feel more than welcome and enhanced our holiday.

Rooms: (This is based on a superior pool view room) The rooms are blah. I feel terrible writing that as the promotional pictures make them seem lovely but they are really just average. The nice embellishments over the beds are a saving grace as the rest of the features are really outdated. Apart from the actual decor though the rooms are perfectly fine - spacious, good AC, a lot of electricity outlets and a good size bathroom. Unfortunately, the walls are very thin which caused us a problem on a few nights with people next door but apart from that the room was great.

Facilities: We took a Thai Cooking Course at the Kata Palm and we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it. For two hours it is 600baht and you can choose two things to learn how to make. Our instructor was exceedingly nice and friendly and most importantly - patient! At the end of the course you get to eat everything you make, are presented with a certificate and also given drinks and dessert.

The breakfast is nice enough, after all it is free. A selection of juices, cereals, cooked foods that are Western and Thai as well as European offerings such as danishes etc. It's not the best I've had but not the worst either. It's replenished frequently and kept warm which is more than I can say for other places!

The internet as other reviewers have mentioned is spotty at best but - more than one person can log in at the same time which is a bonus.

I feel like I have written a negative review but I genuinely did enjoy my time at the Kata Palm. I would recommend it to a friend and I think anyone who stays there will have a good time.

Room Tip: If you have the money a pool access room is worth it.

Excellent location, only short walk to the beach / restaurants.
Rooms were lovely, beautifully decorated in Thai decor and quite large.
Pools were fantastic, plenty of room to sit around.
Check in was very frustrating as they forgot about us. We were sitting in the chair waiting for 30 minutes and when I asked what was happening, they got quite flustered. They called the house keeper to see how far away our room would be and we were then told to wait another hour.
Overall a great hotel, perfect for kids and couples alike.

I stayed in this hotel with my boyfriend in April 2011. As the season peak season was over, we got this hotel with more than 50% discount to the peak price, and it was really a great deal. Rooms were large, clean and nicely decorated - we stayed in the renovated room with a garden view. Breakfast was OK, plenty of choice but always the same.

Pool area was excellent with the pool bar and different pool areas. There were always enough sun loungers and umbrellas. Hotel also provided limited number of free beach chairs but you had to get up early in order to benefit from them. The walking distance to the beach was only about 5minutes, really good location. Also many restaurants and shops nearby.

The gym was a disappointment and we were not able to use it due to limited choice of machines, so this is one of the reasons we would probably not choose this hotel next time - with almost the same price there are hotels with better gym equipment nearby.

All in all a good experience and would be definitely good for families.

We came here following mixed reviews check in was quick however the welcome drink is a bit odd! - our pool access room was fab steps down into the water through a doorway of tropical plants fountain playing on each balcony. The room is huge bed big enough for 4! and although firm the mattress is very comfy. Bathroom has a super freestanding bath and choice of rainstorm or power shower heads.
Just a word on the tv - don't bother only news in English!
Location is great 5mins from beach and pool cafe prices are surprisingly cheap.
Make sure you book the beach sun beds ASAP at 8.30am they only have 30 and some folk block book about 10 at a time there is no limit.
although they only cost 100 baht each anyway!
Restaurants are good - the Boathouse is lovely for a special evening although pricy -all the others are similar.
We would recommend this hotel and would stay again Kata has everything you need and quieter than Patong although there is bait of building work going on
Distinct lack of english folk but lots of eastern europeans and Scandinavians catered for in the bars and restaurants
Note Mosquitos are rampant take everything you can and more - if you ask at the pharmacy you can get some cream called diprosone which takes the redness out and itching immediately - try it

It was our 2nd stay in this hotel and we still love it. The lobby with the internet corner and the rooms are clean and really nice furnished (thai style). The garden with the swimmingpools is very nice arranged (with waterfalls and bridges). The staff is very friendly. And the breakfast buffet is hudge (the best and biggest we ever had in thailand).

There's a gym but with quite old machines.
Make sure that you get a room in the right wing of the hotel (where the gym is). There's a building lot near the other wing which is very noisy.
