We are now back in Danmark again - after travelling around 6 weeks in the beautful FarEast, Singapore, Bangkok hotel Peninsula & hotel Shangri La, Koh Samed hotel Ao Phrao Resort, Koh Samui hotel Chaweng Regent Beach Resort and 2 weeks in Phuket at your lovely hotel BoatHouse where we nov have stayed 5 times.

And also this time we thank you very much for a nice and very relaxing stay with good food, wine and most off alle the staff, who are among the worlds best, always nice, always polite, always helpful and smiling - It is a very great plesure to stay at BoatHose because for these reasons.

So if you will be kind to give your staff our best compliments. and give them all our personaly greatings.

We are already looking forward to come back - most likely in april 2012, where we hope and believe that you are able to offer us a good and reasonble price for a two weeks stay.

I did a lot of research before booking Mom Tris Boathouse because this had to be a special holiday. We were celebrating our recent 40th Wedding Anniversary and also my Wife's 60th Birthday which was in the middle of our holiday.

I expected Mom Tris Boathouse to be good after reading all the reviews, but it wasn'nt!
It was far better than I expected, a true piece of Paradise!

I don't think the location could be bettered, literally right on a magnificent stretch of beach with the Beach Boys to set up you Sunbeds and Umbrella's where you want them and even to adjust the umbrella for you when the sun moves. The ice cold towels and fruit sticks that they delivered to you were very welcome in the heat. We particularly liked the fact that the sunbeds are not packed together like the adjacent hotels, but spaced well apart.

When the beach got too hot in the afternoon we adjourned to the Pool where the same service was delivered with a smile by Tong (who looks about 25 but is in fact 39).

Breakfast was wonderful, all the fresh fruit, cheeses, smoked salmon and eggs (cooked any way you wanted). By the time we finished off with the fresh Danish Pastries we only needed to walk down the four stairs and we were on the beach.

I have read various different opinions on the room size and decoration. All I can say is either we were very lucky or we were in a different hotel. The room was spacious with a veranda with chairs and table, a good size bathroom and all scrupulously clean, and kepth that way on a daily basis. The King size bed was even more comfortable than our bed at home.

The little touches like a bowl of fresh fruit delivered to your room every day, the bed turned down and an orchid placed on the pillows and the English language newspaper pushed under the door evey day are what put the polish on things.

As I said, it was my Dearly Beloved's 60th Birthday while we were there. A beautiful bouquet of Orchids was delivered to our room during the day.

That evening we ate at the Boathouse and at the end of our meal the little musical combo broke into "Happy BIrthday to You" to accompany the delightful birthday cake that was delivered to our table. A lovely finale to a lovely day thanks to the Boathouse staff.

While on the subject of the staff, they cannot be praised highly enough in our opinion. Nothing is too much trouble, any queries or questions dealt with immediately and all done with a genuine smile. They are truly lovely people! We became Grandparents again while at the Boathouse. My Son-in-Law emailed some photoes to the Hotel and they even printed them off for us and delivered them. What a wonderful gesture. Thank you Apron

This was our first Far East trip and our first visit to the Boathouse. It will definately not be our last. We were made so welcome that it felt like home and we intend to come back home sometime soon.

The Boathouse is not the cheapest Hotel in Phuket or Kata Beach, but we thought it was excellent value for money and would recommend it without any reservations.

Congratulations to you and your wife again upon turning double Grandparents. On behalf of the Boathouse team I’d like to thank you for your very nice review of your stay with us. I’m pleased to pass your compliments to the staff you mentioned by name for giving outstanding service. Tong is in fact over 40 already but I think he’s happy to be regarded as a youngster still. We are looking forward to welcoming you again soon at the Boathouse, perhaps to celebrate your wife’s 61st birthday!

We normally stay at Villa Royale and go to the boathouse for dinner and or drinks.
This time we were watching the pennies so stayed in a standard room at the Boathouse.
Yes the rooms do need some work. The floor are either really bad carpet or vinyl "wood".
The bathrooms are not luxurious and the shower is over the bath but everything else makes up for this. I certainly found the rooms to be a good size, we had a lovely view and the bed was comfortable with nice sheets etc. We were on the 3rd floor and had a lovely little balcony.

The best thing is walking downstairs to the restaurant and looking at the view of Kata beach through the vegetation.
The breakfast was really good and all the staff were fantastic.

I must admit I was extremely disappointed with the Wine and Grill. Last time I ate there it became my favorite place to eat in Thailand. This time to food was average - in my opinion.

If you go in low season take a suite or a Dolphin Pool villa if you want a luxurious room (they are very expensive in high season). Otherwise just go and enjoy - we will certainly be back.

We also went to Villa Royale to check out the new Royal Suites (we have booked there for July) it appears to have lost some of its quaintness - stayed tuned for next installment - so the Boathouse may become of hotel of choice in Kata.

Thank you for your compliments of our hotel. I have passed them on to our staff who, as many of our guests mention, make our hotel stand out from the competition.

We do have lower rates in the summer season from 16 April until 31 October and also offer packages that include Thai dinner, massage, transfers etc. Packages are available for normal rooms (we have 33 rooms), suites (3 suites) and the Dolphin Pool Villas (2 villas).

Regarding your comment about the Wine & Grill, I have passed it to our Chef. To get some more specific feedback could I ask you to contact me when you are here in July please?

Thank you in advance, we’re looking forward to welcoming you again!

Mom's does not deserve its favorable reviews. Sorry Mom. The rooms are on the small side, desperately in need of renewal and with bathrooms that lack anything like the luxury amenities you are paying for. Tiles are chipped, windows fog up, doors need painting, door knobs are loose, The decor is very 1970's. Rooms that are advertised as beach view look over the restaurant to the beach so that there is no privacy. What is the point of a beach view when everyone is looking at you?
The staff seems friendly if not very professional. They did try to help when we had to change rooms. We were careful about locking up all our valuables because of other guest comments about theft and had no problems.
Mom's is famous for its restaurant which is supposed to be the best in Phuket. Poor Mom's and Phuket. The food is at best average which is a shame because the prices are very high for Thailand. So are the room rates. Give this place a miss.

We are sorry you were not fully satisfied with the Boathouse facilities. Our boutique hotel has 33 standard rooms (36 square meters) and all are facing the sea as mentioned in our brochure and on our website. For guests wanting more generous room space we also offer 3 suites (84 square metres) with direct sea view which were totally refurbished in August 2009, and 2 Dolphin Pool Villas (120 square metres) newly built in December 2007. There are recent photos of our accommodation on our website. During the summer season from 16 April until 31 October the room rate is 4,250 Baht (not including tax, service charge and breakfast) and we do have special attractively priced summer offers including transfers, dinner, Thai massage etc.

Our restaurant received Wine Spectator Awards since 1995 and has won the only, even more prestigious, Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in Thailand since 2006. Since 2008 Maître Cuisinier de France Jean-Noël Lumineau has been appointed by owner M.L. Tri Devakul to oversee his four restaurants in Phuket. The Boathouse was included in the latest Thailand Tatler’s Best Restaurant Guide 2010 and was awarded a near perfect score on all criteria (setting, food, wine and service).

We are sorry if you were disappointed with the food in our restaurant and wish you would have commented to us during your stay.

We thank you for sharing your personal opinion on TripAdvisor; we value all comments which are shared with the management team. I have passed your comments about a refurbishment of the hotel on to the owners for their consideration.

I have stayed in the Boathouse many times but this year we decided to stay in one of their Dolphin Pool Villas and it was absolutely stunning although it is expensive but if you want to push the boat out this is a real treat. The hotel itself is not the newest in Phuket but it has a charm all of it's own and has one of the best restaurants in Phuket.
The staff are friendly and helpful and we enjoyed every minute of our stay there. The jazz bar next door that forms part of the hotel is excellent and the casual restaurant (also part of the hotel) that adjoins it serves the best soft shell crab tempura salad you will ever eat.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your praise for our Dolphin Pool Villas and our restaurant. I haven’t tried the soft shell crab tempura salad at our sister restaurant Mom Tri’s Oasis next to our hotel yet, but I will be very soon! For your information our reduced summer season rates will again start from 16 April. We hope to welcome you again soon!

What a joy to return to Mom Tri’s Boathouse for our 5th time! Four of our visits have been in March, with one stay in April last year. We love the fact that the hotel is situated right on the beautifully clean, white, sandy beach. Each time the weather has been superb, with idyllic beach and sea conditions. We see beautiful fish when we snorkel close to the rocks, on the left side of Kata Beach, facing out to the little dollop called Pu Island. Kata must surely be one of the loveliest beaches in Phuket .We are totally hooked now and can’t wait to return to The Boathouse, where the waves lap gently, not too many metres away from one’s breakfast table.
Somehow the staff there operate as one big happy family. Their team work is admirable. Most of them seem to have a working knowledge of English and can’t do enough to please their guests. They have an extraordinary work ethos .The General Manager, Mr Louis Bronner, is French and has excellent king-pins in key positions. The P.R.Manageress, Lisa Sol, is a vibrant and creative Dutch lady, who speaks excellent English and is at home in German too. We noticed how popular the hotel is with Scandinavian citizens too. Lisa went way beyond the call of duty, helping us plan outings and tours in the area and proving a wonderful source of information. Her Boathouse web site with photos and details of Special Offers and Long-Stays is not to be missed.
Kuhn Jarinee, the charming Thai lady who manages the Front Office, is highly competent and is loved and respected by all. What a fine ambassador she is for the Boathouse! No wonder she has served the Boathouse for over 20 years! We managed to book effortlessly and pay for our stay ,before leaving Cape Town, thanks to Kuhn Jarinee’s expert on-line assistance. We also accepted the transport she offered to arrange. What a treat for us oldies, to step off the ‘plane in Phuket, after our very long journey from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Singapore …….to find the smiling Boathouse driver waiting to welcome us with bottles of iced water and chilled napkins and to cheerfully shoulder our luggage for us.
We have grown to love the beautiful, smiling Kuhn Aporn at the front desk. Instead of relaxing at home on her afternoon off, she spent 2 hours trying to have an ear ring repaired for me in Phuket town. Another staff member who went way beyond the call of duty, was a fine young gentleman called Thawat ,who drove my 81 year old husband to a medical appointment, using his own car when he was off -duty. It is no wonder that so many guests refer to the Boathouse as their Other Home and return year after year. We too now regard it as real Home from Home!
We find the superior rooms in the Boathouse quite adequate, spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable with excellent mattresses and plenty of hanging space, drawers and sufficient hangers! A rare treat in hotels! The bathroom is fully functional, with a good shower over the bath and a handy little pull-out washline for one’s “smalls” (or “Large,” after the Boathouse chef’s excellent choc chip croissants! ) Take your own hairdryer, if you don’t want to stand in the bathroom styling your hair with the pull-out kind which is quite breezy on fine, fluffy hair!
We appreciated the fast-boil kettle with daily rations of tea, coffee and creamer and the tasty fruit left in our room, not forgetting the two bottles of complimentary water. The bar fridge was most useful for keeping our snacks cool. There is a 7 Eleven just up the road. I purchased top -up airtime vouchers for my mobile phone there too. We found good shopping bargains in the little streets close to the Boathouse.
We do so enjoy the Boathouse breakfast buffets ,with plenty of healthy options as well as decadent treats from the hotel bakery .It was great being able to have freshly -squeezed fruit and vegetable fruit each morning. The carrot, ginger and celery juice definitely helped my husband get back on his feet after rigorous oncology treatment last year.
Having the Bangkok Post delivered to our room, was another much appreciated perk as we were eager to assess the Red Shirt situation in Bangkok, our next stop. Coming from South Africa, we are very security conscious. One of the things we appreciate most about the Boathouse, is the lovely safe feeling we enjoy there. We noticed how many ladies feel free to come on their own or with another lady friend .We met some widowers who also come regularly and enjoy the warm, caring atmosphere. In our 5 visits we have never missed a single item from our room, nor from off our chairs on the beach. It was strange for us as South Africans to accept that we could actually leave our belongings on our chairs on the hotel’s private beach, swim and snorkel for 2 hours and return to find our things still there! The staff who are known as Beach Boys, under Kuhn Ning’s enthusiastic direction, pampered us with fresh towels, chilled fruit and iced water all through the day. How wonderful not to have to pay extra to hire chairs and join the bun fight on the rest of the beach where chairs were packed cheek by jowl !
Most nights we ate at the little Thai Food restaurant, alongside the reggae bar on the beach and enjoyed the tasty, traditonal food which cost us a mere R25 in our currency! We also found the food and service to be excellent, just across the road from the Boathouse at a restaurant called The Two Chefs. For two special culinary treats, we loved the whole grilled seabass at the Boathouse. It is a romantic, under- the- stars, candlelight dining experience not to be missed. Sheer magic!
Another memorable, unique experience for us, was to accept the offer of free transport to travel to the Boathouse Regatta, further north, for another mouth-watering extravaganza. Not cheap dining for us, but excellent value, with our table on the quayside ,under the stars, surrounded by snazzy yachts, in a glittering Marina with live music and a pulsating vibe. We dream on ...and look forward to March 2011.....
