This hostel is really value for money. The location is really nice, which is near to Kata Beach, which is more beautiful, tranquil and happening in its own way. The reception and staff are really friendly. They have nice food around and transportation is easy. The bed is really clean and we come back to clean and nice bedroom everyday. Toilet is really clean. They even have mini fridge and safety safe. It is very safe at its area. They have a small balcony which is ideal for a coffee or tea in the morning or observation and chatting at night. Room deco is hand sketched, giving us a personalized phuket touch. Definitely will make a comeback at this hostel. I am impressed by their hospitality. Also you won't go wrong with Maithai as cheaper accommodation option as club med and ibis hotel are also at this area.

Stay for 3 nights and was very happy, good wifi, hot water, A/C and room clean every day spotless..

Location is very close to everything you could need. Try the fresh fruit stands for fruit shakes (awesome )

Only a 5 min walk to the Beach.. (Note to get to the beach you have to walk beside an open raw sewage river)

We stayed at the Maithai, for two nights, on the 27th Feb 2013. The lady at the reception was a slightly agressive when I arrived and made the payment for the two nights. She rushed me to go away from the front desk 2 seconds after I handed the money, as I was putting my wallet back to my bag. I had stayed in a hostels in Kamala before that, and the staff was genuinely smiling at me, helping without me asking.. So when we got to Maithai, it felt like we were giving them too much work just by staying there.
Note that the spa/entrance where people come for massages or other spa treatments was empty, so definitely not too busy.

We asked for a foot massage on one evening, but asked for 30min instead of 1 hour as it was pretty late in the evening and wanted to head to bed.
the front lady was again very rude. She rolled her eyes like it didnt make sense to do half the time, then reluctantly took us to wash our feet and set us up with the masseuses.

My friend's was with a very sweet old man, who was keen to do it properly. He ended up doing 40 min instead of 30min... the front lady shouted at him that he had done more than we paid for.
Again there wasnt anyone waiting behind, and that was not something to shout about in front of customers.

Whenever you would go and ask for questions, they will stay on the phone, talking to their friends, and make you wait until they feel like talking to you. I wonder who manages the place...
You cant even get information on the area, what to visit, flyers etc... they wouldnt even tell you where to get that information ..

Although the room we stayed in was clean and fine, the relaxing feeling you expect when on holidays just got ruined by their attitude.

If you have the choice, do not waste your time/money there.. there are many many thai people who will give you a better experience of their country.

Room Tip: If you booked a twin bed room and they take you to the double bed room, insist on what you actually...

From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out, we experienced non friendly, non interested staff. Everyday the cleaner left our balcony unlocked and one day she left our front door unlocked. Poor security, staff let anyone through reception to walk up to the guest rooms. To get to the rooms all guests have to walk through the massage shop. Poor shower pressure and only 1 English speaking channel (if this matters to anyone). Walking distance to restaurants and about a 10 min walk to the beach. Rooms are fine and large and clean but wouldn't stay again due to the poor customer service.

I booked this hotel with some trepidation.
Never thought of staying above a massage parlour before, but frankly nearly every shop on the main road is a massage parlour, so very difficult to get away from them.
Anyway, we were greeted by a very friendly English speaking lady who dealt with our arrival and showed us to our room etc. even showed how to yes the safe.
The was brilliant. Very good size. Air con that worked and dropped the room temperature significantly in a short space of time.
The bed was large and comfortable, with good quality clean linen and a good supply of towels. There is a small fridge for your own use, and 2 bottles of complimentary water each day.
The room was well cleaned and serviced daily with fresh linen and new towels.
Not one issue here, we felt safe and secure and no reason to think otherwise.
Kata beach is no more than a 5 minute walk and Karon beach only 10 minutes.
We paid 4050 Baht for 3 nights, and in my book we got a lot for not a lot.
Give it a go, you will not be disappointed.

I loved this place, it has been by far the nicest place we've stayed so far in South East Asia and one of the cheapest!
The room was gorgeous, modern, chic, really clean and comfortable. It was just like a 4* European hotel room! In fact, the decor was probably nicer than most European hotels!
The beds were super comfy, air con worked well, mini fridges with free water and a flat screen tv (although not many English tv channels). Bathroom was clean, hot shower, clean, soft towels - I really have no complaints!
We expected to be further out than we were, there are bars and restaurants immediately outside the entrance and the beach is a pleasant & easy 10min walk.
The massage salon downstairs is upmarket, definitely nothing to be concerned about. You get to your room via the salon, that closes at midnight but a security guard is on hand to let you in if you're out later.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, it really was excellent value for money and I'm generally hard to please!

We orginally planned to stay one night as we made our way arounf the coast. Ended up over a week. Place is clean and staff are friendly. You are upstairs from a classy massage palour and next to a 711. 100 metres is the beach and shops, restaurants and bars are within walking distance. We had a balcony, tv, safe, air con, wifi, kettle with coffee refills, 2 bottles of water each day, fresh towels and linen.

Couldnt fault this place at all.

Room Tip: Go to the back if you want quiet from the road but you wont have a balcony towatch sunset. There isn...
