“Great, spacious rooms and an amazing rooftop area.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2014

This hotel has a sense of style. The decor has been crafted together well. The signature bears (they're everywhere) are cute. The rooftop pool, outdoor lounges, dining tables, restaurant and bar were a welcome respite from the craziness of the Kata Beach streets. It felt very exclusive and peaceful. The breakfast, while not having a large amount of options, was still very nice. And they had latte coffees! Service was great in the bar and restaurant and only average to good, at the front desk. the 'minibar' was two cans of coke, four bottle of water (all hotels in Phuket supply free water), some weird soya sticks (very small), two Yakult yoghurt drinks and some mini jelly shots (non alcoholic).

Room Tip: Get a deluxe ocean view room. The alternatives do not offer much of a view partially blocked by the...

Beautiful hotel with an amazing pool and great view.
Will not recommend to stay there for food. It's unreasonably overpriced and very basic. Breakfast was not bad, rather limited choice but good quality.
The rooms are spacious and clean and the view is amazing. Rooftop pool is really great, with lots of places around to relax and soak up the sun and great atmosphere.
Location is not too bad, few minutes walking down the hills to the beach and main entertainment area. Renting a scooter is the best way to get around Phuket.

Upon arriving the staff did not seem friendly at all. We thought that maybe this was a one off but unfortunately not. This is our 6th time to Phuket and staying at Kata. The pool is nice to look at, but too bloody cold to swim in. The "free" minibar is great, I love getting 2 cans of coke and 2 waters free, but to call it a minibar is a bit of a stretch. The shuttle bus/Tuk Tuk could be offered more regularly and potentially not require 2 hours prior booking, that being said I didn't see anyone use this service in the 2 weeks we stayed there, perhaps they didn't want to book. Room service was very hit and miss with most days is having to either ring up for towels or something else they had forgotten. We didn't book breakfast in our package but we did use the restaurant at foto one day for breakfast. It was weird and expensive, we ended up going to kata beach for breakfast each day as it was cheaper and better than the hotel. On a positive the wifi was good and easy to connect to. The view of kata Noi was brilliant, and at times breathtaking. The hotel could supply beach towels in the rooms instead of getting guests to check them out from reception each time. They could also issue two room keys so that one could be left in the room to keep it the air con on. TV was new and would have been better if the hotel would fork out the few extra bucks for more than 5 channels, of which only 1 is in English. Although the hotel is relatively new I would suggest staying there soon because the up keep will soon not keep up with the impact of the harsh Thai environment. Overall a huge disappointment as we were looking for a hotel to stay at for the next 5 years of annual Thailand holidays. Oh well looks like we will have to go back to Meta Dee Resort for a better experience.

Our first visit to Phuket and Kata seems to me to be the best resort, having travelled round the island's south. Staff are cautious and professional and check in was very smooth, though it takes about an hour to get your room profile on the computer so after checking in go for a drink and check out the pool... by then your TV will be personalised with running bill total and messages etc. The pictures posted give a genuine impression of the rooms and views, it is truly a lovely location on the hill. The restaurants both up and down the hill are very nice and offer a greater range of dishes at a slightly cheaper price (what you would generally expect); though you would be hard pressed to top the quality and presentation of the food in Tiffin Mama's. As long stay guests (over a week) they treated us to a meal on the house one night! The hotel staff were very well organised and arranged trips for us, the hire of their scooter (long time since I was on something so small (being a Harley man these days!)). The scooter enabled us to get to some great snorkelling beaches about 10km away, and also see the Buddha on the hill. The roads were sealed and although the driving technique is vastly different it seems to work m(in a country where they value life so much). The room could have used a few more clothes storage spaces, it presents as quite minimalist, with all the necessities, but we left some items in our cases when we'd have preferred to unpack completely for a week and a half. The mini bar is free, which is a nice touch. The bathroom was nice, but typically Thai in aroma. I suggested to Reception some 'air fresh' spray or something might be good. We used the free Mosquito spray which was concentrated lemon in the end and it was very effective. The rooms are cleaned daily and they seemed happy to change sheets as often as we wished. The balcony had a great view and even a bath on it (not sure when you'd take a bath in front of the neighbouring hotels, but we used it as a small personal pool one day when we were feeling like a lazy day. The lighting and air conditioning is great though the fan has only one speed (very fast); we just set the thermostat and used low a/c. The console is clever and after mastering it we could adjust the lighting in numerous ways for the best effect for the mood. We took advantage of a boat trip which included 2 canoe cave visits, and James Bond Island. The trip was 2500 Bt which was cheaper than one which had more caves; the Foto Hotel staff were very helpful in our selection (we felt they were on our side, when you can feel sometimes that someone is trying to get you to part with money for little return). The two caves we were shown were exciting enough and it was fun to say we've been to Bond Isl. (You can see the camera angles for the Man with the Golden Gun movie and think 'Roger was here!'). You had a feeling that you were out on a friends big boat, rather than an unknown customer; the catain came round as did many of his staff and just chatted. The Siam Niramit was a show we decided to see just North of Phuket. We opted for the inclusive dinner and transfers, being VERY IMPRESSED with the organisation, and were looked after very well. We don't often see shows so I was a little sceptical but on comparison the costs are reasonable. The show was amazing and if I get started on describing it, it would spoil the surprise - save to say it's highly recommended, as is the Foto Hotel. Upon checking out, we had a whole day until our evening flights. I suppose we could have just booked another night and not used it, but we were on a budget. The hotel staff were great and made sure we had changing, showering and sitting facilities at no cost. We had full use of the hotel (except the room) and they arranged a very nice taxi (which was only slightly more expensive that the government taxi we took to the hotel; but lots more comfortable and got us to the airport in good time. Phuket is more expensive than mainland Thailand, but an excellent holiday destination and we have lots of photos to remind us of a great time at the Foto hotel.

Room Tip: The sea view in the Ocean Hall were some of the best

We enjoyed our 3-nights-stay in this hotel so much! After the busy stay at crowded Patong-beach, which was a first for us (and probably a last but we enjoyed the experience), we were so happy to arrive at Kata; the Foto Hotel. It's everything you see in the pictures and more, we loved our room! We had a bath-tub on the balcony with a view on Kata-Noi-Beach, which is great for daytime sun-and-swim as well as Kata Beach, you're right in the middle. Imagine waking up and having your coffee here, see picture please. The room was quite large with very high ceilings, the bed was right in the middle which was great for a beautiful wake-up-view, a large day-bed in the room, plenty of closet-space (tucked away everywhere, well done!), the black and white bear and pillows everywhere made me smile all the time and really give a homy feeling to this on the other hand very industrial looking hotel, which I loved! The bed was large and perfect and the bathroom with great shower was wonderful as well. On top of all this there is this superb looking restaurant and pool with great daybeds (which you can 'close' with a hood for a nap or for some shade). If you want to go out you can easily reach Kata and Kata Noi even by foot but back up the hill you might want to catch a taxi; plenty of bars and restaurants around. You can even reach Patong easily from here by taxi (probably 10-15 min.).
The staff is ever so friendly, breakfast was great as well !
If I had to mention one negative side it could be the walk up the hill (10 minutes) if you travel back but we enjoyed this walk twice without a problem. I would love to go back here!

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs ask for a room as high as possible, preferably with bath-tub on balcony...

We spent six days at the Foto Hotel over the New Year holidays and had a fantastic time. The hotel is very modern and the rooms are well-appointed, with excellent air-con and free mini-bar. Our room had a wonderful view over Kata Noi, and the infinity pool on the roof of the hotel had even more outstanding views of the surrounding area.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - English not always perfect, but we're in a foreign country, right?
The breakfast at the hotel was delicious, with a choice of either Thai or Western food.
The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of Kata, but you can walk down to the town and the beaches. Kata Noi beach is highly recommended. Yes, the hotel is on a steep hill, but you can take a taxi if the walk back up is too much for you.
We had a great time and will certainly be coming back to Foto Hotel.

Room Tip: We had a beach-view room which was really great.

I've been here 3 out of a 13 day stay, and I have to say I'm completely wow-ed by the Foto Hotel. I booked despite some negative reviews about rude staff, and I have to say I have not yet experienced that. The staff are all lovely, and apart from a bit of a language barrier, they are always smiling. We got a beautiful Ozone Hall Room, and don't mind not having an Ocean View, because the rooms are so striking. The bathtub on the balcony, the huge bed and wonderful decor make this hotel really special. Some parts of the room are aged, but its incredible value for the price. The hike up the hill can be heavy during the middle of the day, so a scooter is recommended. But your a short walk from bars and restaurants, so walking during the night is fine. Kata Beach is a beautiful area, haven't felt unsafe at all! Overall, so far so good.

Room Tip: Ask for an room that can be reached using the inclinator elevator - will save you a fairly hefty wal...
