The astounding beauty of this place drew us on our first night in Kata, really exceptional surrounds for the astetic in me. They had 99 baht cocktails so I selected a mojito. The waiter suggested same but mock tails for the kids, which was cute but they really didnt enjoy them. We were seated in the smoking area on the lower level which was odd with two kids, so we moved upstairs.

The salad was okay, small portion for the price and mainly onion, fine if it was an onion salad. I spoke with the waiter, lobster seemed a bit too pricey, so i ordered king tamarind prawns and was assured they were spicy. They were 6 piddly little prawns, not king prawns, and they were precooked and covered in sauce that was sickly sweet. Absolute rip off. I asked for chilli sauce and received straight hot fresh chilli which didnt match the dish. The rice was stale and limp.

I ordered what I thought was another 99 baht cocktail and got a nasty surprise when the bill came. It was nearly three times the cost & advertised on the other side of the cheap cocktails. I don't really care about the cost, just that it was advertised like that. They also charged 99 baht for the mock tails, when i questioned that I paid the same with alcohol, they said yes thats the price.

Staff were surly, felt like they couldn't be bothered. Never smiled & we made a quick getaway, didnt bother to order more to fill us up, as what we ordered didnt, or even try dessert. Poor service, average food, inflated price but beautiful venue, real shame.

Sharon and I were standing at the end of Kata Beach amongst the huge selection of restaurants and bars, hungry and a little thirsty trying to make the perfect decision where to go for dinner when we noticed this huge and very impressive lit up building up above the road beside us.
It looked out of place in some ways but sufficiently enticing to get us to take the walk up the hill and investigate and we are so pleased we did.
The interior decor matched the exterior and sitting on the outside tables, with a warm breeze overlooking the road was just a perfect spot to rest our jet-lagged bodies.
Very clean.
The menu is large and extensive ... predominantly Thai but with plenty of selections of seafood and pizza.
Beautifully cooked, fresh and very tasty. A good selection of vegetarian dishes.
Winelist was good and cocktails unlimited.
Not overly expensive and absolutely value for money.
We will definitely be back.
On the way out we passed through their bar area which had closed for the nite which was probably a good thing because our body clocks had hit about 3.30am ... we will probably start there next time on the way up the short hill.
Definitely worth the climb.

Kampong Kata Hill is probably the best and most authentic Thai restaurant at Karon and Kata beach. Climbing the stairs is the beginning of an enchanting evening, with excellent cooking and service, but most of all an authentic Thai evening.

After climbing many steps. The decor of the restaurant is fantastic. Traditional setting, lovely decoration and artifacts. Food only average for the extra costs that you will pay. Had a whole spicy fish, was too dry. Also had mussels in a sauce. Mussels didnt appear to be fresh and were very disappointing. Price including beer was about £15.00.

It is definitely well done with decor and atmosphere with a stunning view! Very quite and hidden place. Food was ok but nothing special mostly the way it presents. I wouldn't return or recommend it to the others.
